….

Still his grip was strong and he didn't look away when Tytan met his gaze, both of which were good signs.

Tytan deliberately turned his back on the Stark family now that the necessary greetings were done. He completely ignored the booming shout that suddenly erupted from his father, King Robert.

Predictably, the King hadn't even seemed to notice or care that his own son and heir had just arrived moments after the main party.

Nope, Robert was already focused on something else, demanding loudly, "Ned! Take me down to the crypts! I want to pay my respects!"

Tytan didn't even need to look to know what that meant.

His father wanted to go brood in the dark, damp tombs beneath Winterfell. He wanted to visit the cold stone effigy of Lyanna Stark, Ned's long-dead sister, the woman Robert still called the 'love of his life'.

He'd go down there and probably get weepy, mourning a girl he barely knew, a ghost from a war fought years ago. It was the same old story, Tytan thought with an internal sigh. Father getting lost in the past again.

While Robert was busy dragging Lord Stark off to wallow, servants and squires were starting to unload baggage from the wagons and carts that had followed the royal party.

Seeing his chance in the mild chaos, Tytan headed straight for his mother. A wide, charming smile spread across his face as he walked.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw his uncle Jaime Lannister lean back against a pillar, rolling his eyes dramatically at Tytan's approach.

He also caught the nasty look his younger brother Joffrey shot him a sneer full of resentment. The little shit. Tytan ignored them both.

"Mother!" Tytan called out cheerfully as he reached Cersei. "And might I say, you look absolutely stunning today. The northern air agrees with you!"

Before she could properly react, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling the much smaller, elegantly dressed woman into a big hug. He was warm and slightly sweaty from his ride, a stark contrast to her cool silks.

For a moment, Cersei stiffened in his arms, surprised by the public display. But then she relaxed slightly, allowing the hug.

As Tytan held her, she leaned in close, using the cover of the embrace to whisper fiercely in his ear, her voice low and urgent so none of the nearby Starks could overhear.

"Where were you, Tytan? You were cutting it very close. You were supposed to be riding ahead with Jaime, not arriving after us."

"Almost late, Mother, but not actually late," Tytan whispered back, his own voice light and easy.

He released her, stepping back with the same broad smile firmly in place. He saw her beautiful green eyes narrow slightly, and she rolled them subtly, clearly not impressed by his casual attitude towards timing and appearances. He just winked.

Turning away from the Queen before she could start lecturing him properly, Tytan focused his attention on the three other blondes standing nearby like little Lannister echoes.

His smile became instantly genuine as he looked at his younger siblings, Tommen and Myrcella. Both had the classic Lannister golden hair and green eyes, and both were looking up at him with open, happy faces.

"And how are my favorite little brother and sister doing?" Tytan asked warmly, crouching down slightly to be closer to their level.

He received shy but bright smiles in return. Tommen practically bounced on the balls of his feet, while Myrcella looked up at him with wide, admiring eyes.

"The carriage ride was so boring," Myrcella complained softly, wrinkling her nose. She glanced quickly at her mother, ignoring the warning look Cersei sent her way, before turning back to Tytan. He was her favorite brother, the one who always seemed exciting and kind, unlike Joffrey.

"Yeah, tell me about it," Tytan replied with a grin, reaching out to gently ruffle Myrcella's perfectly arranged golden hair, making her giggle.

"That's exactly why I decided riding ahead was a much better idea. So, are you two looking forward to exploring this place? Winterfell?"

"Yes!" Tommen piped up immediately, his eyes shining with excitement. An enthusiastic smile lit up his young face as he looked around the big, cold, grey courtyard.

"This place looks brilliant! It's so different from the Red Keep! All stone and wood, and it smells like snow!" The younger boy was clearly fascinated by how different and rugged everything looked compared to the polished stone and perfumed air of King's Landing he was used to.

"Really?" A sarcastic, whiny voice suddenly cut in. "You actually want to explore this dreary pile of rocks?"

Tytan, Tommen, and Myrcella all turned. Joffrey was standing there, arms crossed, a petulant frown spoiling his handsome features. He looked Tytan up and down with clear distaste, his eyes lingering on Tytan's practical, sweat-stained leather and mail armor.

Joffrey himself was dressed in fine silks and velvets, obviously trying to look princely even after the long journey.

"Look at you," Joffrey added with a sneer directed at Tytan, "all sweaty and dirty like a common soldier."

"Ah, Joffrey," Tytan said, his own smile becoming a little fixed, a little less warm around the edges as he straightened up to face his younger brother.

"You seem a bit grumpy. What happened on the ride? Did a squirrel steal your lunch? Or did one of Lady Stark's kittens get the better of you?"

The air between the two brothers instantly felt colder.

Their relationship had been bad for years. Joffrey couldn't stand how easily Tytan seemed to earn their father's rare moments of attention, their mother's grudging approval, and the respect of the court, all things Joffrey desperately craved for himself.

He hated being second best, especially to a brother who didn't seem to care about dressing the part of a prince.
