Williams paced back and forth in the dimly lit room, his phone clutched tightly against his hand. The call had gone unanswered, yet again. His frustration boiled over, a storm of anger and desperation roiling within him. He couldn't believe Gina was ignoring him. He had thought abandoning her would solve his problems, but now, everything was spiralling out of control.
His once pristine life is now in shambles. After using Gina for her company shares, he had dumped her in the States without a second thought, expecting her to fend for herself even after he left her with nothing but her clothes, and now, he was in a dire financial situation; the company had gone bankrupt due to his incompetence and lack of management skills. On top of that, Lilia, Gina's best friend, was pregnant with his child.
William's mind raced as he tried to think of a way out of the mess he had created. He was being hounded by Gina's grandparents, who were blaming him for her disappearance and threatening to have him arrested if he didn't produce their only granddaughter. His financial situation was worsening day by day, and Lilia's nagging wasn't helping.
Lilia says on the couch, her eyes red and puffy from crying. Her usual vibrant demeanour WA snow a shadow of its former self. She had betrayed her best friend thinking that Williams would make good use of the company shares, and now she was paying the price of her actions.
She glared at Williams, her resentment palpable. "You're useless, Williams, Absolutely useless!" She spat, her voice trembling with anger and frustration. "How could you do this to Gina? To us?"
Williams stopped pacing and turned to face her, his expression hardened. "I didn't beg to have sex with you, did I? Neither did I force you to betray your best friend. You opened your legs willingly." He retorted coldly.
Lilia flinched, his words cutting deep. She had never felt more ashamed of herself than she had been drawn to William's charm and the allure of his apparent success, but now all she felt was regret and guilt.
"I thought you were different, Williams. I thought you cared." She whispered, tears streaming down her face as she faked to be vulnerable in his presence. "But you used me. Just like you used Gina, and now I'm pregnant, and you're broke."
Williams ran a hand through his dishevelled hair, his frustration weighing him down. "If Gina had n just stayed out of it, none of this would have happened." He muttered defensively.
Lilia's eyes widened in disbelief. "You're blaming her? After everything you did to her?"
Williams hated the fact that Lilia was acting all innocent when she was his ally in taking Gina's family shares. He glared intensively at her, and without knowing what to do, he sat across her, his jaw clenched. "She was weak, Lilia. She had let her emotions get in the way of business. If she had been stronger, we wouldn't be in this mess. Besides, stop making me look like a villain here."
"Of course, she doesn't know about my betrayal. You're just delusional, Gina trusted you, loved you, and you destroyed her."
"You think she'd forgive you if she finds out you're pregnant for her husband?…" He had a lot to say but was interrupted by the buzzing sound of his phone. He glanced at the screen, hoping for a message from Gina. But it was another call from her grandparents, their relentless pursuit adding to his stress.
"They're going to have me arrested if I don't find her," Williams said, his voice hinting with panic. 'Her grandparents think I know where she is."
"Of course, you do."
"I don't."
"Don't you remember where you abandoned her?" Lilia asked quietly, her gaze piercing.
Williams shook his head. "No, I left her at a hotel. I thought she'd figure something out."
Lilia's eyes filled with disgust. "I'm so ashamed of myself that I'll have to be your ally. I brought this upon myself. You're a monster, Williams, and you've dragged me into your nightmare."
William's expression softened for a moment. "I didn't mean for any of this to happen, Lilia. I just wanted to succeed, to prove myself."
Lilia stood up, a frown plastered on her face. "Prove yourself? By destroying everyone around you? You've ruined Gina's life and now mine."
"Don't act like you're innocent in all this. You chose to be with me. The least you could do is sit down peacefully and bring a solution if only your brain could come up with one." Williams yelled, his eyes narrowed.
"I chose wrong. I betrayed my best friend, and now I'm paying the price. But you…you're just a coward who can't take responsibility for his actions."
Williams's phone buzzed again, and he ignored it, to face Lilia. He stood up from where he was sitting and grabbed Lilia by her neck. His fingers pierced her skin. "Just bring me a solution to all these and shut your lousy mouth."
Lilia tried to break free from his cluthes, but she couldn't breathe. With all the strength in her, she pushed Williams away, and he fell back on the seat opposite her while she inhaled and exhaled to catch her breath.
"You monster!" Lilia yelled, tears running down her eyes.
"You're a monster too, Lilia. Think about it, you told me about Gina's company shares and were jealous when I got married to her." Williams said as he smiled nonchalantly. "She doesn't know how bad of a best friend you are so make better use of it and do anything I tell you to."
Lilia, still trying to catch her breath, started regretting everything she had done to Gina from the onset, but she couldn't just go back on it now. She felt a sharp pain from her stomach and Williams immediately went behind her, patting her back as he whispered some certain words to her ears.
"Bring back your friendship bond with Gina, we'd start from there." Williams chuckled darkly as he left her alone in the room, where Lilia stiffened at his words.
