"Then why are you here?" Damien girlfriend asked Megan, her voice cold, thinking Megan was just lying again.
"To attend the auction," Megan said simply, her tone calm like she wasn't bothered.
Immediately Damien's face changed. his jaw tightened, and his eyes narrowed in disbelief. "You're here for the auction?" he asked, like it was the most foolish thing he ever heard. "Megan, are you even listening to yourself? Stop this. You're just embarrassing yourself. Return the card before it gets worse."
But Megan didn't flinch. She looked him straight in the eyes and spoke calmly.
"I don't need you to worry about me, Damien. You've already shown me where we stand."
At that moment Damien girlfriend smirked as if she'd just watched something funny.
"You should just go," she said, her voice full of pride. "This place is not for someone like you. You'll only embarrass yourself more. And Damien—please stop talking to her. You've already done the right thing by dumping her. No woman would ever want someone like her."
Before Megan could say anything, a voice came from behind them—warm, kind, and strong.
"Sweetheart, I hope I didn't keep you waiting."
The whole crowd turned their heads. Nathaniel had arrived.
He looked confident and clean in his expensive suit. He walked like someone important, someone powerful. His eyes were sharp, and his presence made people stop talking.

"You should stay far away from that woman," she said. "She's poor and useless. I don't know what she told you, but she's lying. Don't let her trick you."

"Do I look like someone who can be tricked?" he asked sharply. "I'm Nathaniel Black, senior director of LV cloud Bank. I think I can handle myself."

"Senior director?" she said.
