Chapter 1 - Passersby

Two doors opened and closed at the same time, two young adults exited two different coffee shops, placed right next to eachother, a Starbucks and a local café.

A vibrant woman outside the local café with a faint smile and a plastic cup of iced matcha latte she just bought. A gloomy man with messy hair outside the Starbucks just ended his work shift, holding a warm paper cup emitting vapour, Americano, free drink that the place offers workers.

Both cafes do the same thing, they serve the same customers, those who would either like a dose of caffeine or a spike of diabetes. Thus when two is placed right adjacent to eachother like this, it invites business competition. If it were two stores that operates differently, the staff and crew wouldn't resent next door as much.

The woman and the man walked in separate directions, never catching a single glimpse of eachother. If even a fragment of silhouette of the other person was noticed, they would've been reunited right there and then, maybe they would've gone back into the Starbucks for a coffee and some catching up, but that didn't happen.

The vibrant woman sips on her iced matcha with a satisfying smile while vibing to upbeat rhythms echoing through her headphones. The gloomy man on the other hand, was frustrated after a single sip, he had added too much sugar.

"See? Nothing happened to me." The young woman entered the passenger seat and said to the driver.

"Well, you're lucky." The driver responded.

The woman flew the driver a wry smirk as she takes off her headphone, "I mean I'm 17, Dad, I can walk down here alone to buy a drink anytime and not be in any danger."

"I know you can, Sam, I was just hoping you would buy me a drink too since I'm here."

"Oh...sorry."

"I'm just joking."

"You can have half...after I've finished the first half." Samantha proposed to her father while shaking the cup of matcha latte in her hand.

"How generous, but I don't want your saliva, Sam."

"Alright then, alllllll mine." Samantha announced then took a long sip of the iced matcha as her father drives them home.

On the other side of the street, the gloomy man simply walked and walked with his head hung the entire time until he reaches his dorm room on the fourth floor, he's a fresh college student.

"You tryhard, already got a part-time job." His roommate commented without turning his head when the gloomy man walked in.

The gloomy man ignored his roommate's jokeful remark, he sets his bag down on his bed and immediately went towards the computer desk.

"Yo, no greetings? You know since we're roommates now, we ought to get to know eachother better right?" His roommate turns around to question him, and all the roommate received was a glare for a second and no more.

"Liammmmmm." His roommate calls out to him again.

"What?"

"Caitlyn asked if you're free this Sunday, y'all can catch a movie."

"Not interested." Liam replied apathetically and opened his laptop, not giving his roommate any attention.

"What do you mean you're not interested? She's hot, bro."

"I've got work."

"Then why are you gaming now?"

Liam booted up his favourite shooter game, which made his roommate really annoyed. Liam is a good-looking and tall scholarship student, one of a kind in campus but lacks the youth energy someone his age should possess.

"I can't understand you man. You should at least be texting her right now...tsk." His roommate shot one final comment before leaving him alone.

Knock knock knock

"I guess I'll get that." Seeing as his gloomy roommate was busy playing shooter games, Liam's roommate got up to get the door.

"Yo Tyler, party at Sue's tonight, you coming?" The person outside the door enthusiastically asked.

"Mike! Oh I'm definitely coming, wouldn't miss that for the world man."

"Your roommate wants to come?"

Tyler looks back at Liam, who is as gloomy as ever, with his sight fixated only on video games and money. Tyler lets out a sigh before sarcastically asking, "You think?"

"Haha! Well, see you tonight."

"Tonight? Oh hell no, it's half past 5 already, let's just head straight over."

"Ayy, like the way you-"

Before Liam could hear the ending word of that sentence, the door of the dorm room was shut, not like he was listening in the first place anyways though.

"I'm homeeeee!" Samantha says as she enters her house in the suburbs with her father.

"You've only been gone 20 minutes." Her mother in the kitchen preparing dinner said.

"Hehe I know, Mom. What's for dinner?"

"It's only 5:30, why are you hungry all the time?"

"PE class today was exhausting Moooooom"

"And you ate two bowls of pasta this afternoon." Her father commented from behind while patting her head.

"Yep, that settles it, we're jogging tomorrow. And dinner tonight is meatloaf."

"Ahhhh alright."

Samantha sat on the dinner table in a carefree manner before anyone else did, waiting impatiently for her dinner.

She stares out the window to gaze up upon the orange sky illuminated by the setting sun, so did he, wondering, "Does he/she still remember me?"

"..."

"..."

"Yeah, no way." He thought.

"Why am I thinking about this?" She thought. "Mom! I'm hungryyyyyy!"

"It's not even night yet Sam."

"Oh, I lost." Liam talked to himself, he was distracted by his own thoughts earlier and had lost the ranked match, his online teammates are now reprimanding him in the game chat with harsh and inconsiderate words, "What a bother."

"'Till this day I still think about him huh?" Samantha thought to herself again.

"He/she wouldn't remember me, and it's very much my fault."
