For Ira, sleepless nights were normal-

An eerie knock shattered her fragile sense of reality, sending a jolt through her already frayed nerves.
Her roommate's voice called from outside, cheerful and mundane,
yet hadn't he just been sitting on her bed moments ago?
The room felt wrong. The air was colder, heavier, like an unseen presence was pressing against her chest. Silence stretched taut, sharp as a blade, as if daring her to break it.
Was it paranoia playing tricks on her exhausted mind-
or was the intruder already inside, watching, waiting?
Ira's gaze flickered to the door, the faint sound of footsteps growing louder. Her throat tightened as she reached for her phone, her fingers trembling.
No signal.
"Karan?" she whispered, though she wasn't sure if she wanted an answer.
Another knock, louder this time, shattered her hesitation.
