The police came to our house and told us that Julienne had passed away around 6:25 AM, and there was a connection between her death and what happened to Sophie. They asked us to keep it quiet while they investigated. The news of Julienne's death didn't spread across the university as expected, and her classmates and friends simply thought she was on an extended vacation.
It seems there's some sort of arrangement between the university, the police, and Julienne's family. We've had difficulty getting any further information from them.
César stayed with me for two weeks after Julienne's death, and even though I received texts and calls from the other three during that time, based on Vivienne's current mood, she wouldn't have reached out to other men for advice. So, I politely turned down their invitations to meet for various reasons.
It might take some time before I meet the men who can give me new clues, but I've also discovered new things during the two weeks I spent with César.
At first, his words and actions led me to form negative assumptions about him, but now I can confidently say that he's given me as many clues as possible to show he's my partner.
YES, CHALLENGE PARTNER.
This makes much more sense for the first challenge, and the first place I woke up should be considered a safe haven. When I think back on some of his behaviors, I notice things.
His initial threatening words were more like reminders for my character. When I couldn't find a good reason to do something, he would help me come up with reasonable explanations.
For example, when I first woke up, the time difference between when I left the room and when I returned didn't match Vivienne's original timeline. He focused on this discrepancy and needed me to provide a reasonable explanation for turning the page. He said we could act differently than before, but it had to make sense. If you're wondering why he didn't just ignore the difference, I'm sure there are character constraints forcing him to address it as well.
This was also true when I expressed curiosity about what happened to Sophie on the way to the tube station near the library. Vivienne didn't know Sophie, and as an outsider, I needed a plausible reason for my curiosity about an incident involving a stranger from a week ago. In the library, I impulsively stood up before having a reason to do so, but César suggested we go see Julienne and convinced the others that we wanted to watch a film with her, so it would make sense to go find her.
We have partners, but we also have 'adversaries,' and if we're questioned about the unreasonable behavior of our adversaries, it won't end well. My assumptions about Julienne and the outcomes give insight into certain things.
"Don't do anything that doesn't fit your character!" Beau couldn't give me details about the challenge, just made sure I was as safe as possible.
Luckily for me, my partner is very smart. I imagine he's already thought through many scenarios since he was given the task of protecting me.
And I've just confirmed that.
