A smile tugged at my lips as relief and pride filled my chest. Sakura stirred softly at my feet, tails flicking lazily. Weeks had passed since our contract, and our bond felt comfortably strong now—like a steady heartbeat shared between us.

But today, my heart stirred restlessly for another reason: Corvin's birthday. I'd promised to help him summon his first familiar, and now anxiety fluttered in my stomach, mixing with something else I couldn't quite name.

"You're unusually quiet," Sakura purred sleepily, watching me through half-open eyes. "Nervous?"

"A little," I admitted, brushing my fingers through her soft fur. "I just want everything to go right for Corvin."

She flicked her tails, amused. "I suspect it's more complicated than that."

I ignored her knowing look, my cheeks warming slightly. "Maybe. Let's just get ready."

By midday, we had gathered in the grassy clearing just outside Whistlehollow. Corvin stood anxiously at the summoning circle's center, breathing deeply. Eira waited beside him, giving him an encouraging grin.

"Ready?" I asked gently, offering a reassuring nod. "Remember, trust your empathy."

Corvin smiled nervously but spoke the ancient chant clearly, precisely. The circle ignited in soft, radiant moonlight, silver-blue runes glowing brightly. Mana surged beautifully, guided by the ancient knowledge I'd shared. I carefully steadied the mana flow, heart quickening with anticipation.

In a swirl of moonlit radiance, Lunari emerged gracefully—a majestic silver wolf whose fur shimmered like woven moonbeams. Her calm, powerful presence filled the clearing, and she gazed serenely at Corvin.

Then Lunari's gaze drifted to Sakura, who sat calmly beside me, still in her small cub form. Lunari tilted her head slightly, eyes sparkling with subtle amusement. "Oh—a fox cub. How… adorable."

Sakura's ears flattened immediately, tails puffing in annoyance. "A cub?" she retorted sharply, eyes narrowed dangerously. "Mind your tongue, glow-wolf."

Lunari's eyes twinkled, her voice elegantly teasing. "Forgive me, little one. I meant no harm—it's merely unusual for summoners to choose familiars who haven't yet grown."

Sakura leaped gracefully into the circle, her voice calm yet icy. "Perhaps this is more to your liking." She flicked her tails sharply, mana swirling dramatically around her.

Before our eyes, Sakura rapidly grew, her body elegantly reshaping into her majestic adult form, nine tails shimmering like delicate flames. She towered gracefully, radiating quiet power.

Lunari's ears flicked slightly in surprise, but amusement soon replaced it. "Impressive trick, little fox. But size alone isn't strength."

Sakura growled softly, eyes gleaming. "Care to test that theory?"

Without waiting for a reply, Sakura darted forward gracefully, unleashing ribbons of fiery mana. Lunari met her swiftly, fur glowing as she summoned a luminous barrier of moonlight. Their clash resonated through the clearing, power mingling fiercely yet elegantly.

"Should we stop them?" Corvin asked nervously, eyes wide.

Eira chuckled, arms folded. "Are you kidding? This is incredible!"

Their mock battle continued, both familiars moving beautifully—Sakura's fire twining around Lunari's moonlit defenses. Their strikes held no malice, yet each move displayed remarkable power and pride.

Lunari laughed melodiously, dodging gracefully. "You're quite spirited, little fox."

Sakura sniffed regally, tails blazing. "Better spirited than shining pointlessly, wolf."

Their exchange ended gracefully as they stepped back, bowing slightly to each other. Sakura shrank gently back into cub form, gracefully sitting and grooming a paw. Lunari nodded respectfully, eyes filled with new appreciation.

"Enough showing off?" Corvin asked, smiling softly.

Lunari's voice softened warmly. "Indeed. I approve of your company, summoner."

Corvin stepped forward carefully, reaching out. Lunari lowered her head gently, touching noses. A visible ripple of serene warmth filled him, his joy evident.

He turned toward me, eyes shining. "Aleron…thank you."

His sincerity sent warmth fluttering through my chest, and I smiled softly. "Happy birthday, Corvin. You deserve this."

Corvin

Evening fell quietly over Whistlehollow, starlight softly illuminating the clearing. Lunari sat serenely beside me, her quiet, steady presence warming my heart. Today had been amazing—far more than I'd hoped.

I watched Aleron quietly, my heart full. He laughed softly with Eira, Sakura curled comfortably at his shoulder. Today felt different, special somehow. Aleron had always been important, but now… he seemed more. More precious. More… significant.

Lunari's gentle voice echoed softly inside me. Your bond with him is strong, summoner.

I flushed slightly, unsure what I felt. Not romance—not yet—but something deeper than friendship. Aleron had always been special, but today he became even clearer, brighter in my eyes.

He glanced toward me, offering that familiar, gentle smile. "Did today meet your expectations?"

I laughed quietly, heart swelling with affection. "More than you know. You're really amazing, Aleron."

He blinked, looking away shyly. "I'm glad you're happy."

We stood in comfortable silence, and I knew something important had shifted today. Aleron had always mattered to me—but now, he meant something deeper, something new and confusing, but undeniably wonderful.

And whatever this feeling was, I was glad it involved him.
