Chapter 1 - THE CONFESSION

~ piece ~

The school bell rang to signify the end of the day, the girl with the silky blue hair and sky-blue eyes carried her bag and began to exit the classroom, exhausted after the battle with the villain yesterday night, she was happy that it was finally the weekend. A time to tranquilize and rest from school, a time for her to sketch some fashion designs or even a time for her to play some video games. As she was leaving the building Alya approached her, "Marinette! We're having a picnic at the park, and you're coming with us!", the girl with dark brown hair which faded into an amber color yelled. Marinette knew exactly what this was going to be, another one of Alya's plans to get her to confess her admirance to Adrien Agreste; top model, son of fashion designer Gabriel Agreste. But Marinette knew what the outcome of this picnic would be, just like all the other times she's spent time with Adrien, she'd stutter and fumble and the wrong words would always be spoken from her mouth.

With a disappointed look, Marinette refused to come with Alya, "l.. I'm sorry Alya. I can't.. I can't confess my love to.. him." Marinette declared with a disheartened and depressed tone, she turned around and faced the road before Adrien quickly jumped near her face. "Confess your love to who?" the blonde asked with a confused yet curious tone, Marinette immediately begin stuttering, "Uh.. confess my love? No I think you heard me wrong! I meant cook my loaf! My loaf of bread yes!" She stuttered while clumsily trying to act somewhat 'normal' around him, immediately after she sighed and closed her eyes, and began walking across the road to go home. Marinette opened her petite pink bag, looking at Tikki with an upset face, her lips frowning and her eyes staring down.

Did... did I do something wrong..?" Adrien spoke to himself before realizing that the couple behind him, Alya and Nino were both listening. "N.. no dude everything's alright you didn't do anything wrong!" Nino said trying to reassure Adrien that everything was okay. "This isn't the first time I've made Marinette upset..." the boy with emerald green eyes thought to himself, he started running after Marinette, yelling across the road, "Marinette! Marinette!", the girl acknowledged this but continued to walk him without returning a single glare to him, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry if I did anything wrong I... I didn't mean to hurt you." he yelled before he stopped running, panting after he used all his energy to chase the girl which he didn't know that he loved, the girl that was behind the mask, and he was oblivious, blinded by his feelings that he doesn't know who to love anymore.

Marinette sauntered through the bakery with her gaze lowered, staring down at the tiles of the patisserie, not even bothering to greet her parents. As she climbed up her room she briefly paused, taking a few seconds to think, then she arrived to her room and closed the trapdoor, shutting it as if she's shutting her love for Adrien away. Tikki flew towards Marinette, "you have to listen to your heart Marinette! Didn't you hear him? He was chasing after you. You have to go to this picnic and tell him!" Tikki said, almost with a demanding tone, as if now was the time that she had to tell him. "But... Tikki... I don't think he feels the same way about me. I mean, what's so special about me? Everyone knows me as the clumsy girl who can barely form a sentence when talking to Adrien!" Marinette sighed. "You're special, Marinette. Everybody knows it. You're always willing to help everyone out and you've got a kind heart" Tikki argued, "You must go." Marinette formed a faint smile on her face, "Thank you, Tikki." She said before her expression turned from one of sorrow to one of determination. She called her best friend and let her know that she'd be there.

Meanwhile, the ride from school to the Agreste home was a little quieter than usual, Adrien didn't even bother trying to converse with Plagg or his driver, "I feel bad for Marinette... I feel like I did something wrong, I mean, she doesn't even want to go to the picnic with Alya, Nino and I, I must've really messed up this time." the model thought to himself before arriving home. As soon as he entered the room he collapsed onto his bed, laying down and staring at the plain ceiling, before receiving a phone call from Nino. "Yo Adrien! The picnic's not cancelled. Marinette's gonna be there too!" Nino declared through the phone, "M.. Marinette?", suddenly Adrien's facial expression burst from helplessness and gloom to joy and jubilation. "I'll be there!" Adrien replied to Nino, before ending the call.

The clock struck 6:30 PM, the picnic had already been set up by Alya and Nino but the pair had still not shown up. "I better call Marinette, you think she changed her mind again?", Alya asked her boyfriend, Nino shrugged and then agreed that he should call Adrien too. Suddenly the couple heard two voices perfectly matched, saying the exact same thing, "There's no need! I'm already here!" Marinette and Adrien both exclaimed before realizing they both said the same thing. The two tried brushing it off by awkwardly rubbing the back of their heads, before they sat down to enjoy the pastries and food items that were prepared for them. Thirty minutes passed, and in those thirty minutes a variety of conversations passed too, however those conversations were always between Alya and Nino, while Adrien and Marinette remained silent for most of that time, only speaking when they felt they had to. Alya and Nino glanced at each other, before they gave each other a nod of approval, showing they were both on the same page. "Hey- Look Andre is here! You two stay here while Nino and I fetch some ice cream for all of us, Marinette quickly fumbled, "A-are you sure you don't need anyone to help? The ice cream can be very difficult to carry some times and I wouldn't mind giving you a ha-", she spoke before being interrupted by her best friend, "No need, Marinette. You can stay here with your good friend Adrien!" Alya responded with a tone almost mocking the pair's relationship, since they were both just friends, or so they thought.

Adrien stared at Marinette with his head tilted, smiling at her, "So, Marinette. Guess its just you and me now" he giggled, Marinette's white porcelain cheeks faded into a rosy pink color. "Are you... blushing?" Adrien asked, oblivious that Marinette clearly adores him, "What- me? Blushing? No!" Marinette stumbled with her words. The two started laughing and Alya and Nino watched them from a distance. Suddenly water droplets began falling, the droplets then turned into multiple and soon after it began pouring. It was ironic, the melancholic setting contradicted the cheer that the two felt.

"Oh! It's a good thing I brought an umbrella!" Adrien said before opening it, the canopy just barely covering Marinette. "Here, come closer", he gestured towards Marinette to come and sit closer to him so that she'd be under the umbrella too. She scooted over to him and he wrapped his arm around her waist, the two gazed at the night sky as droplets of water continued to pour, "I love the rain.. my mom and I always used to sit by the window and watch it when I was younger, but I guess that's not possible anymore.." the blonde boy sighed, Marinette hugged him to comfort him, and for a moment he looked surprised but then hugged her back.

She began whispering, "Adrien... I... I love you, more than I love a friend, I want to be with you." Marinette confessed to the boy, his eyes widened in shock and he slightly gasped, Marinette continued, "D... D..Do you feel the same way, Adrien?". He dropped the umbrella onto the flour and the two were now soaking from the heavy amounts of rain that scattered, "l... I'm sorry, Marinette. You're a great friend but I.. I'm in love with someone else." he replied to her confession, a confession that took so long to build up only to be given that response.

She was shattered. Heartbroken. Devastated. Words couldn't describe how she felt, it was just a huge wave of emotions that flushed through her mind. The same words that she told her partner in crime, were now being told to her. Those six words completely flipped her mood, just those six words held a powerful meaning. If only the two knew, if only they knew that the people they love, the people they admire, were them. "B... but, who?" Marinette managed to form a sentence, the heartbreak could be sensed through her voice, "...I'm sorry." That was the only response Adrien could give to the girl's question.
