Chapter 1 - A Life That Wasn't His Own

Elias sat at his desk, tapping his pencil idly against the paper, a habit he'd picked up in school. The teacher's voice droned on in the background, speaking of subjects he'd long since stopped caring about. It wasn't that he was a bad student—no, Elias had always done well in his studies. But lately, nothing felt like it mattered. The assignments, the notes, the endless cycle of school—it all felt pointless. Every day bled into the next, a series of meaningless tasks he performed like a robot.

He glanced at the clock on the wall. 3:45 PM. Only an hour left before he could go home. Not that it made much of a difference. Home was just another place where things didn't feel right. His parents, though loving and supportive, never truly understood him. They'd always pushed him to do better, to strive for something, but Elias could never put into words what he was searching for. What was he even working toward?

He stared out the window for a moment, watching the wind rustle the leaves of the trees outside. The world seemed so alive out there, and yet he felt disconnected from it. Even the thought of going home made him feel hollow. Was this really it? Was this all he was meant to be? A good student, a good son, but nothing more? He had always dreamed of something more—something extraordinary, something that would make him feel like his existence had a purpose.

A deep sigh escaped his lips. He'd spent so many nights lying awake, wondering if he would ever find the thing that made him feel alive. Every dream felt distant, and every ambition faded the moment it came into focus. What did it all amount to? Was there more to life, or was this all there was?

The bell rang, snapping him out of his thoughts. The students began to gather their things, chattering excitedly about the weekend. Elias couldn't bring himself to care about the small talk, the weekend plans, or the trivial events of their school lives. As the other students filed out of the classroom, he was left alone, gathering his own belongings in silence.

Elias didn't mind the silence—it gave him space to think. But today, even the silence felt like a cage. He stared down at his notebook, the scribbles and notes that meant so little to him. Was he really going to spend the rest of his life like this? he wondered. He stood up and grabbed his backpack, slinging it over his shoulder. It was time to leave. But as he stepped out into the hall, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was... off. Something inside him whispered that his life was about to change in a way he couldn't possibly imagine.
