Chapter 2 - [2] Terrors

Konoha Hospital.

Tengen opened his eyes, now fully aware of his situation. His earlier collapse was due to information and a segment being infused into his mind.

It contained everything Tengen had experienced in Konoha, as well as the mechanics and usage of his cheat.

Tengen was eight years old, still studying at Konoha's Ninja Academy. At four, his parents died on a mission, leaving him to live alone, a convenience for blending into the Naruto world.

In this world, Tengen had a carefree personality, which helped him get along well with his classmates. This trait mirrored his original self, perhaps why the system chose him.

Maybe the Tengen of this world was a reflection of the Earth Tengen.

However, Tengen's ninja talent was mediocre, not terrible, but around the middle of the pack at the academy. He couldn't compare to the gifted students, like the black-haired girl, Anko, he saw in the classroom.

Now, with his memories restored, Tengen recognized her as Mitarashi Anko, the future disciple of Orochimaru.

These memories were a huge help, allowing him to integrate better into the Naruto world.

He now knew where he lived, where to get food, how to cultivate chakra, perform basic ninjutsu like the Body Replacement Jutsu, and throw kunai, skills that felt as if he had practiced them himself.

Still, Tengen needed time to get used to them.

Beyond these memories, he learned how to use the system, his cheat, though it was a bit bizarre.

Tengen was like a receiver picking up signals. Across the Naruto world, signal points would randomly appear, containing fragments from anime or movies.

By receiving these fragments, he could extract abilities from them.

Signal points were fixed to specific locations with minimal variation, and their existence was fleeting, constantly shifting and refreshing.

The system received fragments in six qualities.

Ordinary, standard, high-definition, ultra-clear, Blu-ray, and IMAX.

Ordinary fragments weren't necessarily the worst, but extracting something valuable from them was incredibly difficult.

Higher-quality fragments like ultra-clear, Blu-ray, or IMAX offered much better odds, eighty percent at least, if not guaranteed.

The system also issued regular tasks, rewarding video fragments or honor points.

High-definition or ultra-clear fragments could be purchased with honor points, but earning them was no easy feat.

The simplest method was to chase signal points, though Tengen knew this would be a trap.

"A trap I'll have to jump into." Tengen sighed. His body's ninja talent was average; following the standard path offered no hope.

He couldn't afford to be casually killed by an enemy ninja.

Tengen also knew it was the 45th year of Konoha. The Third Shinobi World War was about to begin.

If all went as expected, the war's end would usher in Kyubi's attack on Konoha. Without significant strength, he could easily become cannon fodder.

In the Shinobi World War, even jounin faced high mortality rates, let alone chunin or genin.

"Gaining jounin-level strength in just a few years? That's some serious pressure." Tengen muttered. Thankfully, his cheat gave him a chance; the gods hadn't abandoned him.

Without a bloodline like the Uchiha's, reaching such strength quickly would be a pipe dream otherwise.

"Wait a sec, System, how did I end up in the Naruto world?" Tengen realized the memories didn't explain this.

[The host was chosen by the gods.]

"Gods my ass." Tengen flipped it off. "Just tell me straight."

After he said that, a fragment of information appeared in his mind, an average Tengen playing a game when a meteorite crashed down, reducing his house and him to ashes.

That fireball was the system. For some reason, it fused with Tengen's soul, tore through the dimension, and brought him to this world.

"Well, I guess I'm lucky to be alive." Tengen said, staring at the fragment, at a loss for words.

Talk about fateful bad luck.

After some self-deprecating humor, he felt a bit better.

Voices came from outside.

"Sensei, how's Tengen?" A girl's voice asked.

"The medical-nin said he's fine."

"Let's go see him." The teacher said and entered the room.

Tengen greeted the three, "Hey, Takagi-sensei, Anko, Iruka, good to see you."

"Damn it, Tengen, I thought you were done for." Anko said, stomping to his side with a fierce glare. "If one of our academy's two terrors was gone, I'd actually be sad."

"Two terrors?" Tengen groaned. "Anko, you're the terror. I'm a good guy."

"Good guy? Iruka, do you buy Tengen's nonsense?" Anko turned to ask.

"Tengen's a good guy." Iruka said honestly.

"Asking you was pointless." Anko said, exasperated.

"Takagi-sensei, I'm fine now. Can I leave the hospital?" Tengen stood up.

"Are you sure? There's no rush to get back to the academy." Takagi said. Though Tengen often disrupted class, he knew the boy was serious about his ninja studies.

"I'm good." Tengen jumped to the floor. "Look, I could take down an ox right now."

"Alright, I'll handle the paperwork." Takagi nodded.
