Niley's straightforward words left Mier stunned, and his face turned red.
He blinked at his father, a bit shy but still said, "Wife Master is really nice, it's just… just that my body… I can't really handle it sometimes."
After speaking, Mier nervously tugged at his sleeve, feeling awkward talking about such things with his dad.
"Yeah, your body is pretty weak. You need to take better care of it from now on."
Hearing his father say the same thing Niley had said before, Mier quickly picked up a corn cob and handed it to him, trying to stop any more embarrassing comments.
His father took the corn and munched while giving advice from experience. Mier couldn't take it anymore, so he made an excuse and ran off.
Watching his son act all shy and flustered made the old man feel a bit proud. His boy had grown up and found someone who could protect him. That was good. At least he was out of that mess of a home.
After Mier went home with his father, Niley put on her earphones and took out the tablet from her storage space. She started watching some action movies that Jiang Li had found for her back in the apocalypse, ready to learn a few moves.
She kept an ear out for any noise from the yard.
When she heard Mier return, she quickly put everything away and pretended to be spacing out in a chair.
As soon as Mier walked in, that's what he saw. His face was still hot from earlier, and seeing Niley made it worse. Feeling embarrassed, he softly called, "Wife Master."
Niley curled her finger, signaling him to come over.
He turned his face shyly but still walked toward her like she asked.
Niley had just gotten into the movie when she was interrupted. Seeing it was her little husband, she didn't get annoyed. She reached out, pulled him into her arms, and asked, "Why is your face so red?"
Even though the sun was out, it was still winter, and the temperature was low. The clothes she gave him were warm, so it couldn't be from the heat.
Mier felt even more embarrassed by the question and quickly buried his head in her chest, trying to change the subject. "Nothing… I'm just a little shy."
"Shy?"
Niley's voice was smooth and deep. As she spoke, her chest moved with laughter, and Mier could feel it. He pouted and lightly punched her in protest.
Niley felt a little regretful. It was a pity she couldn't learn together with her husband. But it was fine—she could just teach him later.
"Wife Master, don't you need to go out?"
After playing around for a bit, Mier looked up and asked seriously.
Back at his old home, he had often paid attention to Niley's courtyard. She rarely went out and didn't seem busy with anything. So how did she have the money to buy him? How was she supporting herself?
He was curious.
When Niley didn't answer, his eyes dimmed. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked that. Please don't be mad."
He tried to get off her lap.
But Niley stopped him with one hand and raised an eyebrow. "You didn't cross the line. If you want to ask, I'll tell you."
"Really?"
Mier was a little happy at first, but then he frowned. "Forget it. I'm not that interested."
He said it, but his eyes couldn't help glancing at her.
In truth, he did want to know—everything about her. Why she bought him, what kind of person she was. But he was also scared. Even after all their intimate moments, he still didn't dare.
Niley saw the way he looked like he wanted to ask but was too afraid and didn't push him, just looked at him quietly.
Not long after, Mier raised his hand in defeat. "Wife Master, you can rest at home. I'll step out for a bit?"
"Step out? Going up the mountain again?"
It was freezing outside, and there was nothing much on the mountain this time of year. Niley didn't understand why her little husband was so obsessed with going there.
Mier shook his head. "I haven't fed the chickens yet. If I wait any longer, they'll be too skinny by the time we eat them."
But what's that got to do with the mountain?
Niley pulled him close. "We'll feed them later."
Seeing she insisted, Mier gave in.
The two of them sat together quietly, holding each other. It was a rare, peaceful moment.
After a while, Mier started feeling uncomfortable. Sitting on her lap for too long made his legs go numb, and he wiggled a bit.
Niley had trained her alertness in the apocalypse. Her survival skills made it easy to adapt to this new world. But she still wasn't used to waking up early, and her head ached from it.
She had only meant to help him get more comfortable with physical closeness. But as soon as she hugged the soft and sweet little guy, she ended up falling asleep.
When Mier moved restlessly in her arms, she gave his butt a gentle pat, making him blush furiously.
"Wife Master, get up?"
It felt weird doing this in broad daylight.
And he wasn't used to having nothing to do every day. Unlike his older brother and younger siblings, who all had jobs, he was clumsy and couldn't learn anything. He could only help with chores.
Since arriving yesterday, he hadn't done anything at all. Niley's house was clean, and her things were all strange to him—he didn't even dare touch them.
All he could do was sit with her. If he had known it would be like this, he might as well have stayed with his father!
Sitting like this was uncomfortable. His body was starting to feel weird—just like last night.
Realizing the awkward change in his body, Mier turned away, ready to get up. But Niley's hand on his butt gave a little squeeze, and he panicked, jumping out of her arms.
Niley looked at him with an innocent face, like she had done nothing, and Mier rolled his eyes internally, not daring to say anything aloud. "I'll go ask Dad to make lunch."
Niley frowned. Her little husband sure loved to eat.
They just finished breakfast and he was already thinking about lunch.
Unlike her—she just wanted to eat him.
She chuckled at the thought and got up to go feed the chickens, so Mier wouldn't worry about them losing weight.
Mier left the house but didn't go home. He said he would, but he was actually afraid his dad might embarrass him again. So he just paced at the doorway.
It was freezing, and even with the thick clothes Niley gave him, he soon felt cold. Hearing Niley feeding the chickens, he peeked in.
"Cluck cluck cluck~"
In the courtyard, Niley was calling the chickens while tossing feed onto the ground.
The chickens eagerly pecked at the food. Niley stood nearby with a small smile, like she was admiring a tasty dish.
Well, she did look hungry.
He wondered when his older brother and the others would come back. It had already been five days.
"If you don't come in soon, you'll turn into an ice pop."
After feeding the chickens, Niley waited a while. Seeing him still standing there dumbly, she called out.
