Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

The beast and I sprinted towards each other, our skins bloodied and fangs bared. It lunged at me once more, but I wasn't going to dodge this time. Gripping what was left of the spear firmly I pushed against the beast. It fell onto its side and I onto my back, the beast started panting as black smoke crept out of its wound, pushing out the blade of the spear onto the grass. I laid there for a moment contemplating if I should just give up and die, I almost gave in, but I wanted to kill this fucker more than I wanted to die. Jumping to my feet I walked towards the beast, our eyes met as I was close enough to lung at him. It let out a low growl bearing its teeth at me and I screamed out a roar grabbing the blade of the spear from the ground. The beast slashed at me, cutting my chest, not deep enough to kill but the blood flowed out gently. I pushed forward not deterred by the sting of my wound, it once more swung, aiming higher to cleave my head from my shoulders. Its not fully closed wound made it stagger in pain for a moment, I lunged in as the smoke faded away. It rose up, my shoulder resting at the tip of its fangs, I felt them pierce through my flesh like needles. It had my shoulder locked in its jaws ready to push me down, but I wasn't gonna surrender until I was burried in the soil. I gripped the blade of the spear tightly, enough for my own hand to start bleeding and plunged it into the beast's eye. The blade popped the eye on the first thrust, in pain the beast spat me out, screaming out as the black smoke slowly flowed towards the sky from the wound. It thrashed about scratching at its face, the blade still lodged in its eye socket. I wasted not a breath and lunged at the beast, grabbing the blade and the beast's fur I held on tightly. I tore the blade out with force causing the beast to let out a roar of agony. With vicious hatred, I stabbed into its neck until my hand was dripping with its blood. The beast moaned out its last breath collapsing onto its stomach and throwing me off to its side. The blade still firmly in hand I crawled towards the beast, our eyes met for the final time before I cut its head from its body.

The black smoke crept from its body like a horde of rats, becoming more and more until the grass was gone, as if swallowed up by the hoard of hungering hollowness. I sat at the eye of the storm of shadows, the beast's head rested in my lap looking up at me. Weakly I pushed its head off of me and rose to my feet slowly stumbling over my tired body. The shadows crept up my body seeping into my wounds as I got closer and closer to the beast's corpse. The hunger, the pain, the burning darkness got stronger and stronger as I gazed down at my kill. The shadows burned my wounds close leaving a lingering pain in their wake as I kneeled beside the corpse of the beast. My face buried in its fur, I felt the pushing and pulling of my flesh against my soul as if I was being torn out of my own body and stitched back in deeper simultaneously. I rested my head against the beast letting the fur cover my face for a moment of comfort. In a flash the hunger became too much as I keel over clutching my stomach, I hadn't eaten in days and there was nothing near. I look down at the decayed grass then up at the sky, my hand still on my stomach as I roll over onto my back. I scratch and claw at my stomach slowly going down into my stomach layer by layer as I get closer and closer to my bowels choking out cackles of hate for the situation I find myself in. Throwing myself onto my side, my entrails painting the dead grass as light red as I plunge my fingers into the dirt pulling myself onto the beast's body. I ripped out chunks of fur one by one in rapid fistfuls until my hands couldn't grab anymore and were too tired to even do so. My arms unable to move, covered in dirt and blood hung by my side as if decorating a scarecrow. My mind and body equally tired caused me to collapse where I laid. The black smoke slowly pulled my intestines back into my body dragging them across leaving streaks of my suffering behind me. Gazing down at the only meal before me I slammed my face into the beast tearing chunk by chunk of flesh off its boney starved body.

Black smoke flowing into the sky out of my eyes and mouth as I gaze upon the beast's half eaten body with no eyes. My skull fractured and disfigured is put back together slowly by the dark smoke as it flows out of the shadow and into my body. Blind I rise to my feet my mind clear I start walking in whatever direction im facing bracing my hand against every tree I pass so as to not trip. My face returned to normal but my eyes remained unformed, I stopped where I was gripping the tree as I pressed my tongue against my teeth before biting it off. Slowly I chewed my tongue, the blood dripping from my face before I pushed off the tree and kept moving with a smile. The smoke slowly flowed out of my nose as if I had taken a hit from a pipe as my tongue formed back and I repeated the process until my left eye formed back. The temptation to tear my eye from my skull clouded my mind. Attempting to push through, I trip over a branch and smash my head against a tree I failed to lean against. When I hit the ground I broke my neck but was still able to move. Pushing myself off the ground my head dangled from my neck, still able to see I got disoriented and sat down against a tree. Grabbing myself by the jaw I put my head back into place as the smoke flowed stronger out of the still missing eye fixing my neck. Slowly I moved my hand from my jaw to yawn as I was getting tired. As I opened my mouth to yawn a ladybug landed on my tongue. Laughing at what would be seen as a sign of good luck a spear was thrown through my throat.
