Pearl got to her feet leaning against the bed frame panting and dripping in sweat. Exhausted, she looked at the old clock on the wall. It was half past one in the morning. She walked through the shattered glass and the pool of blood to the water dispenser. Although she was physically weak, she felt relaxed as she gulped down the water. She walked back to her bed and laid down among the cluttered sheets.
Closing her eyes hoping to detach from the reality, hoping to enter a world of sunny skies and flowers. And soon she was having the best dream of her life, walking through a garden filled with tulips. She went ahead along the seemingly lonesome pathway. Until she heard a soft voice filling her ears. She looked back. The voice belonged to a charming little girl, her beautiful smile as warm as her voice. She smiled back. "Who are you?" She Asked. "It doesn't matter. We're dreaming. I'm gonna disappear as soon as you open your eyes." She smiled again. "I'll be your friend till then." Then she held Pearl's hand and they walked along hand in hand. They came to a stop at a steep slope. Pearl turned back to look at the field of black tulips waving in the wind. Suddenly, the sun has hidden and the sky was gloomy. The thunder was shaking her ear drums. She looked at her new friend and a sudden lust took over her. She felt out of control and her emotions were growing louder and bigger. She tried to resist but she couldn't take it anymore. She pushed the girl off down the steep slope and a bitter satisfaction took over her as she heard her screams.
Pearl woke up startled, trying to catch her breath. She looked around the room at the glass she had shattered and wounds she had made as she stabbed the broken glass into her flesh. All of this was to avoid it, her worst nightmare.
