Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 - Anybody want some Roasted Boar?

The sun had by now started hiding beneath the horizon, indicating that dusk had arrived over the large forest.

As the trees shone in an orange hue under the day's last sun rays, birds chirped, and the beasts started preparing for the dangerous night.

But not everything was calm and peaceful in this seemingly ordinary forest.

The sounds of ragged breaths could be heard as the grass rustled and a bird flew away from the scene in panic.

Five children, ages ranging from seven to ten, ran for their lives as sweat covered their whole body and their faces contorted in exhaustion.

'We shouldn't have come to this place.'

The nine-year-old girl and the eldest among the kids Orvara had this thought countless times, but there was no point in regret now.

A Boar the size of a tiger was chasing after them relentlessly, and no amount of regret would stop it.

They had snuck away from the tribe when the guards were bringing in the prey hunted by the hunting squadrons as they wanted to hunt some prey themselves and prove to the adults that they were better than those arrogant pricks in the central area.

However, one of the kids had unknowingly killed one of the small Boars, and soon the mother Boar found them.

After that, how the scene right now came to be was self-explanatory.

As Orvara was running with all her might alongside the kids, suddenly one of the smaller kids named Ignar tripped on something and fell face flat on the ground.

Orvara cursed inside but still stopped in her tracks and quickly pulled Ignar to her side.

The Ignisar tribe had very close relations with others of their tribe and would protect each other at any cost. That's why when Ignar fell down everyone stopped and turned around to face the boar.

Orvara put Ignar behind her to protect him and got into a fighting position, knowing that a fight was inevitable.

The Boar was still lunging towards them at high speed, and its eyes were red with fury.

Just as Orvara was preparing to face the boar's tusks, a swishing sound came from above.

Everyone's gaze turned around, and the world seemed to slow down. All the kids could see was the shadow of a figure who jumped from the tree branch just above their heads.

Only Orvara, who had been trained by her father from a young age could see clearly what was happening.

A kid that seemed to be just a little bit older than eight was in mid air, in his right hand he held a wooden bow and with his left hand he had strung a wooden arrow with a stone head onto the bow.

In mid air, the boy aimed and let go of the arrow.

The arrow made a swishing sound as it quickly impaled itself into the boar's right side.

HUUU!!

The boar that had been chasing them like a mad bull let out a horrendous cry as it stopped in its tracks and its madened eyes fixed themselves upon the boy that had just landed.

By now, the dust that had risen due to the commotion had settled down, and the kids could see how the boy looked.

The boy had milky smooth white skin, his hair as black as the night sky and his eyes as deep as the abyss itself, he wasn't wearing a shirt, only pants made out of beast skin, and finally on his ears were some kind of earrings made out of the teeth of some beast.

"Sundrin?!"

One of the kids in the group recognized the boy and called out his name.

Sundrin looked back, his calm and tranquil gaze landing upon the kids, but he didn't say anything he just smiled gently.

He was quite famous during his early years in the tribe, being from outside the village, but slowly the commotion died down, and he lived normally with his parents.

But even then, most of the kids would not play with him cause he was an outsider, and even though Sundrin himself never minded this, his parents were quite sad,

tch

Sundrin clicked his tongue, seeing that he had missed his target which was the Boar's eye,

"Get back, all of you!"

He said to the others as he saw the Boar looking at him with its eyes filled with madness.

Suddenly, the Boar changed directions and rushed towards Sundrin.

Sundrin quickly rolled to the side to dodge the tusks, and the Boar bashed itself into a tree.

Quickly getting on one of his knees, he pulled another arrow from his quiver and shot it towards the boar in close range.

But the boar quickly swung its head and, using its tusks, deflected the arrow quite easily.

The boar once again lunged at Sundrin, and he retreated as his hand went to find another arrow, but this time, he found that there was only one more arrow left in the quiver, and even that had a wooden head.

He gritted his teeth and lunged towards the boar with determination.

As soon as he was within range, he jumped towards the boar and, using his bow as if it were a poll he smashed it against the Boar's head.

But this seemed to only further anger the Boar as it swung its head in a rampage and used its tusks to deliver a powerful blow on him.

Sundrin was quickly sent flying, tumbling back as if he were a rag doll, and soon his body smashed against a tree, shaking it up a bit.

Still, the boar didn't seem to be satisfied as it once again thrust its tusks towards him.

He immediately raised his head in alert and didn't even pay heed to his injury or the pain as he jumped up and grabbed the branch of the tree to dodge the attack.

bang!

The sound of the boar hitting the tree was heard throughout the surroundings as the already shaking tree shook even more intesively.

Sundrin quickly leaped forward and landed on the ground. As soon as he landed he took out a small pouch out of his pants pocket.

His head jolted back only to find the boar was once again charging towards him.

He also quickly charged towards the boar, opening the pouch.

Soon, both of them approached each other at their maximum speed and as soon as he was close enough, Sundrin jumped a bit, and his right foot landed on the boar's head. Then using it as a foothold, he jumped even higher.

The boar was quickly showered by a dark powder as he immediately smeared almost all the contents of the pouch onto it.

Soon, he landed, and the Boar filled with wrath and hatred towards him, lunged at him.

This time, Sundrin chose to retreat as he took the arrow out of the quiver and ran like his life depended on it.

As he was running, he smeared the rest of the powder in the pouch onto the wooden arrowhead.

He rushed forward as the sounds of the boar approaching behind him entered his ears. he pushed the arrowhead down into the ground where some rocks were, and soon the arrow was lit up.

The powder was a special type of crushed rock that the tribesmen used to light fire, and it was quite easily flammable as long as some friction was provided.

As soon as the arrow lit up, he suddenly turned 180 degrees and rushed towards the boar, this caught the boar off guard.

But the boar still pushed forward.

Soon, both of them were rushing towards each other, and it seemed like Sundrin would be crushed by the boar.

But suddenly, when they were close enough, he used all his strength to resist the momentum and jumped to the side while the boar continued on its charge not being able to stop its momentum.

Sundrin channeled all of his remaining strength into geting a footing and pulled the bow's string with all his might.

And as soon as he let go, the flaming arrow shot forward like a javalin, plunging itself into the boar.

Boom!

A loud explosion accoured as the boar let out a final cry filled with wrath and pain, and soon flames enveloped its figure.

For the next few minutes, it rampaged around until finally its life force ran out, and it fell with a thud.

Once again, silence returned to the forest as the only thing that could be heard in the surroundings were the flames' crisp sounds.

For a few moments, no one spoke, as if they were afraid the boar would awaken from the dead and rampage again.

Only after a while did a thud ring out, and the kids looked to the side where Sundrin had sat down, not being able to stand the pressure anymore.

Finally, he gulped his own saliva down his parched dry throat as he looked at the kids and said with a smirk.

"Anybody want some Roasted Boar?"
