Chapter 25 - 25

Dong Miao and her group soon arrived at the door of Julie's house.

Dong Miao frowned as she looked at the thatched hut in front of her.

Even though she had heard about it before, seeing it with her own eyes made her doubt if anyone could really live in such a place.

Would it collapse?

Now she understood why Julie wanted to buy land and build a house after getting some money.

If it were her, she would have done the same.

Dong Miao told one of the officers to knock on the door.

Knock knock.

Lorrie was cleaning the yard. He was young and had sharp hearing, so he heard the knock right away.

He wondered who could be visiting.

Even though he was confused, he didn't slow down. He still held the broom in his hand, thinking that if someone came to cause trouble, he would just hit them with the broom and quickly shut the door.

You couldn't blame Lorrie for thinking like this. His wife's reputation in the village was very bad.

Her so-called "good friends" were not good people either. Whenever they visited, they would stare at his older brothers with sneaky, lustful looks. Only his wife didn't seem to notice.

Luckily, now his wife didn't bother with them anymore. She even beat Liu Hongjuan half to death last time, which made everyone very happy.

It was about time. Those women clearly weren't good people.

Lorrie felt a bit proud. Thanks to the time he smashed something, his wife finally realized her mistake.

He opened the door and was surprised to see government officers.

His heart skipped a beat. Why were officials here?

Ordinary people usually felt a bit of fear and respect towards officials.

Dong Miao saw that it was a boy about thirteen or fourteen years old who opened the door. She raised her eyebrows slightly. Was this the youngest husband?

Even though he was still young, he looked quite handsome—red lips, white teeth, and delicate features—though he was a bit small and thin.

Dong Miao straightened her sleeves and smiled as she spoke, "Hello, young master. I am Dong Miao, an advisor from Zhangxiang Town's government office. Is your wife home? I need to talk to her."

Although Lorrie was young and had a sharp tongue, he wasn't stupid. He knew people didn't come to the door for no reason.

He didn't know what to do. He felt as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, but he said, "Please wait a moment. I'll go call my wife."

He called her "wife" without thinking. In his heart, he already accepted Julie, but he was too stubborn to admit it out loud.

At that moment, Lorrie didn't even realize he had gotten used to relying on Julie, feeling that as long as she was there, he wasn't afraid of anything.

Lorrie threw down the broom and ran inside.

Julie was already awake and sitting cross-legged, practicing martial arts. She immediately knew it was Lorrie when she heard the hurried footsteps.

Only he would act so clumsy and loud.

Julie also sensed that there were about seven or eight people outside the courtyard. She could guess what was happening. She got up from bed and opened the door.

Before Lorrie could even knock, he saw that Julie had already opened the door.

He didn't have time to think about anything else. His face was full of worry and a bit of fear as he said, "There are a lot of officers outside, and someone said they're an advisor who wants to talk to you. What should we do? What should we do?"

Julie looked at him with interest. She leaned down slightly and spoke in a deep, soft voice, "Are you worried about me?"

After saying that, she walked outside without hesitation.

Lorrie, thinking she might kiss him, had already prepared himself, but then... nothing happened.

Feeling a little embarrassed, Lorrie stomped his foot and quickly followed her out.

Bailee and Haven were busy in the kitchen. When they saw so many officers arrive, they also rushed out.

They were both nervous and worried but forced themselves to stay calm. They knew they couldn't panic now.

They had to trust their wife.

Dong Miao saw Julie walking out. She was dressed in simple clothes, her face calm, her eyes clear and emotionless, and her body carried a sharp and serious aura.

Dong Miao's eyes lit up. It seemed this trip was not a waste.

She never trusted rumors.

She only believed what she saw with her own eyes.

And clearly, Julie was not at all like the terrible things people said about her.
