Chapter 41 - Shards of Pursuit

The Incoming Threat

Alarms howled through the Radiant's comms.

Red lights strobed the cracked walls of the ruined station.

The ancient murals flickered under emergency strobes.

In the void beyond, sensor ghosts multiplied — swift, predatory.

Plo's hands flew over her console.

"Black Circuit signature detected. Multiple ships.

Fang-pattern destroyers — customized for close-quarter ambushes."

Kaelen's jaw tightened.

"They're here for us."

Iselyra, eyes narrowing, pulled Frostbrand from her back — the blade hissing in the charged air.

Zaraya grinned, cosmic gauntlet flexing.

"Good. Let them try."

The Black Circuit Squad: "The Broken Chain"

The Black Circuit hadn't just sent bounty hunters.

They had sent one of their elite retrieval units —

infamous even among the lawless.

The Broken Chain.

Led by Lieutenant Krevix Blayde:

A cybernetically enhanced tactician,

Ruthless, methodical,

Former mercenary general who "disappeared" into Black Circuit service after orchestrating the fall of three independent colonies.

His squad specialized in:

Targeted strikes.

Wrecked environment warfare.

No survivors.

Ambush in the Halls

The Dawnbreakers barely had time to react.

Explosive charges rocked the docking bay —

sending debris and fire raining down.

Krevix's voice barked across the open comms:

"Dawnbreakers."

"By order of the Black Matron, you are to surrender the Cipher — or be permanently erased."

Jaxen, still weakened but mobile now, staggered toward the others.

"They want me," he gasped. "The Matron knows I'm carrying it."

Plo clutched his arm.

"We won't let them have you."

Zaraya's voice cut through the smoke, calm and razor-sharp.

"Form up.

We're Dawnbreakers.

They picked the wrong legends to hunt.*"

The Battle

The station turned into a warzone:

Kaelen moved like living shadow — striking and vanishing, dropping enemy after enemy with brutal precision.

Iselyra held the flanks — freezing hallways, forcing Krevix's forces into bottlenecks.

Plo and Drex set teleportation snares — flipping attackers into wreckage mid-charge.

Aerin summoned root-barriers and shockwaves of pure elemental force — staggering heavier Black Circuit enforcers.

Zaraya was a comet — fists crashing through walls, soldiers, armor.

In the chaos, Jaxen fought too —

not as strong, not as fast —

but viciously, desperately,

using every dirty trick he'd ever learned on the streets of his hellworld.

Krevix vs Zaraya

At the heart of the battle,

Krevix Blayde himself crashed through a twisted hallway, leading his personal guard.

Cybernetic arms unfolded into plasma blades.

Shield generators screamed to life around him.

He locked eyes with Zaraya.

"You're a myth," Krevix sneered. "Let's see if myths bleed."

Zaraya cracked her knuckles, cosmic light burning brighter.

"Careful what you wish for."

The two forces collided like titans:

Krevix's plasma blades against Zaraya's cosmic fists.

Sparks and shockwaves tearing the station apart.

Ancient walls crumbling under their fury.

Meanwhile: The Rift's Stirring

Deep within the station,

unseen by all,

the dormant fractures pulsed —

awakening.

The ancient gateways sensed conflict.

Sensed blood.

Reality thinned.

The Rift hungered.

And soon, the Dawnbreakers would realize the battle they fought was just the beginning
