The air was filled with tension, tension which was thick enough to warm a cold shivering person. Daisy's words hit David like a knife piercing through his heart, shattering his usual calm nonchalant behavior. Alice, who stood like a statue by the other side of the room, watched, mesmerized by Daisy's venomous smile – it was a scene which was straight out of a novel with a cunning title. The words that came out of Daisy's mouth made Alice feel so degraded. Whore? She's been called multiple stuff in her life but no one has ever called her a whore .
David's instincts immediately came in causing him to react , stepping between Alice and Daisy. His voice, a low growl barely the anger he had at that moment, sent a cold spine of shiver down Alice. "Daisy, stop," he pleaded, the words as sharp as broken pieces of glass.
Daisy's laugh had a lack of warmth, a chilling sound. "Ohhh my apologies, David," she purred, her sarcasm dripping like honey from a sieve. "Did I interrupt your time with your little college girl? Planning your next rendezvous with your college sweetheart?" Her gaze, sharp as a knife, locked onto Alice.
Alice's hands trembled. She felt caged, she felt humiliation run down her spine like a cold winter shiver. She wanted to run, she wanted to disappear, she wanted to go back to the elevator. Escape seemed impossible; David was there, a buffer against Daisy's relentless attack, but she knew she couldn't win this battle alone. It felt like a nightmare, a surreal, suffocating dream.
"Daisy, it's not what it looks like," David pleaded, his voice strained, let me explain . "This isn't one of those soothing moments I have with those little club girls."
Daisy raised her left eyebrow, her venomous smirk still stuck on her face . "Oh, I'm sure you didn't. But your little whore has something going on , doesn't she ?" Her attention snapped back to Alice, who remained frozen. "You think you can just move your tiny legs in here and steal what's mine? Do you even have a clue who you're messing with?"
Alice's heart hammered against her ribs. Daisy's cruelty was like watching a viper strike – this wasn't a childish spat; it was a full-scale assault. This world of power and wealth was far worse than she had imagined. She expected things to be the way they were. But not as bad as it had come up to her. It was a whole new level of assault.
"You think I'm some naive girlfriend , don't you?" Daisy asked, closing in on Alice. "You think because he may let you in once or twice, you've won? You think you have something on him now? You think we're on the same level or something? Sweetheart, you're nothing but a temporary distraction, a fleeting whim. David's got bigger fish to fry than playing happy families with you."
David stepped in again, grabbing Daisy's arm. "Enough," he yelled . "Stop this now."
Daisy, unyielding, shacked him off. "It ends when I say so, David," she replied. "Think you can just discard me like a broken doll? I'm not going anywhere! Do you think I let you flirt with these little girls because I like? No! I just always want you to remember there's no place like home. I want you to know you're mine. And wherever you go, you'll always come back to me."
The tension in the room was so stiff, it felt like tear gas had been thrown in there. Alice had come seeking for answers, and for a clear path, but instead, she was drowning in a sea of lies and betrayal and hurt.
"David," Alice whispered, her voice shaky but firm. "What's going on? What is all this?"
A look of guilt displayed on his face, her voice laced with venom. "Don't listen to him, Alice," she hissed. "He's been manipulating you from the start. Do you think he cares about you or misses you? He's just confused. Do you think you even matter to him? Think again. You're a minor inconvenience, a mistake he's too weak to fix."
A dangerous spark ignited in David's eyes – a variety of emotions filled him. Anger, guilt, confusion. Because he wasn't sure if Daisy was right about what she had said. "Daisy, enough. I don't owe you explanations."
Daisy laughed, a bitter, sarcastic sound. "Oh, but you will, David. You'll explain everything. To her. To me. To the world." Her sharp gaze settled on Alice. "Because you have a lot of explaining to do, darling."
Alice felt nauseous. She was trapped, she felt like that was her enemy's territory. She wanted to run, to erase this night from her memory, but she couldn't. Not yet. Not when everything she'd fought for hung in the balance.
David stepped forward, with a very sharp gaze. "I said you should stop it ," he repeated, his voice colder than a winter's chilly night. "Get out of here. Right now!"
Daisy finally lost her composure , but only for a second. With a final, unwavering glance at Alice, she left, her parting words a chilling threat. "This isn't over, David. You think you can shut me out? Hide your little secret? You know I'll be back, and when I return, there will be both of us. Just like it has always been."
The door slammed shut, leaving a heavy silence. Alice stood frozen, trying to process everything Daisy had said and everything that was going on.
David turned to her, his face filled with frustration and barely controllable anger. "I didn't want this," he muttered, his voice rough. "I never wanted this for you."
Alice's voice trembled, the hurt, true and undeniable . "I never wanted any of this, David. Never."
He reached for her, but she stepped back. "No, David. I need the truth. What's really going on here?"
He swallowed, his gaze dropping before meeting hers again. "There's something you need to know, Alice. Something deeper than you'd even imagine." He hesitated. "You're not the only one with something to lose. There are… alot …. of dangerous things happening behind the scenes. I won't be able to protect you, if you don't understand any of this."
Alice felt dizzy. "What are you talking about?" she said in a low but angry voice.
David moved closer, his voice low. "There are people who will stop at nothing to destroy everything I've built. And that includes you, Alice. And the baby."
What sounded like an explosive shook the penthouse.
Alice gasped. "David!"
David's eyes widened. "No. No, it can't be—"
Shouts echoed from the hallway, footsteps pounding closer.
David held Alice's arm tightly, pulling her behind him. "Stay down," he whispered. "Whatever happens, don't make any sound." As he stood up trying to figure out what had happened, The door burst open, revealing a tall, imposing figure. A dark, menacing, tall and utterly terrifying.
"Don't even think about it, David," the man growled.
Alice's blood ran cold. It was Lucas.
Lucas advanced, a chilling smile playing on his lips. "I warned you, little
brother."
