Synopsis
My mate, Husk, rejected me! What do I care? Husk is arrogant, stubborn, and pigheaded, the complete opposite of what I want. I can't mate with a brute like him. Worse, his rejection is causing a rift between him and his brothers, my other mates. I can never give Husk my heart even if he possesses my body. Fate is cruel and I don't think I can pay the price. There's a fine line between love and hate, but with me and Husk, it's a mile-long chasm.

Chapter 1 - chapter 1

Husk

The whole damn place smelled of fucking sex. My nose wrinkled in disgust, and I kicked off my boots. At least Fagua had learned to control her magic enough not to bring the place down on top of us. Or maybe my brothers weren't as good as they could be at making her orgasm. I snorted. I could outpace both of them.

Giggles sounded from the kitchen, and I debated skipping dinner and going straight to bed. Though I probably needed to pick up some earplugs to drown out their all-night fucking parties.

My wolf whined within my chest, wanting her as our mate. Stupid wolf didn't know better.

I ignored him and plodded down the hallway toward the kitchen, grumbling under my breath about horny fucking wolves and their insatiable appetites.

In the kitchen, Fagua dropped balls of chocolate-chip cookie dough onto a greased baking pan while Winter stirred a thick, spicy-smelling pasta sauce. Sky chopped the jalapeno sausage.

"Husk, you're back," Sky said, waving the knife at me. "Where have you been?"

I shrugged. "Around." Anywhere but here and having to see these three making goo-goo eyes at each other all the time. Whoever invented the phrase of a third wheel had to have been in this situation.

Then again, I guess I was the fourth wheel, and every damn day, I felt like I grew further apart from all of them. I went to the fridge and took out the milk, drinking it down in a few gulps.

"Hey, I was going to use that to make french toast in the morning," Fagua said as she slid her tray of cookies into the oven. "Not to mention having milk for these as well."

"Order more, then." I tossed the carton into the trash can. "I'm going to bed. Try to keep your screaming to a minimum tonight."

"Why don't you lay off her?" Winter growled.

"Fuck you." I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand. "Have you two forgotten she thought of us as unruly monsters?"

Fagua stiffened, her full mouth drawing down into a pouty frown. "I'm sorry, okay? You three were kinda overwhelming at first. But you have to admit your table manners needed an upgrade, not to mention you locked me up."

"Save the bullshit." I clenched my fists. "Does no one remember how she fucking left Sky to die?"

"Give her a break, Husk. She didn't underst—"

"No, I won't," I interrupted Sky, who was trying to make the best of everything. It only wound me up the wrong way, and I knew that one day his blind faith was going to get him in trouble.

"Because of her, you nearly died," I growled, wondering why I had to remind him. "I was the one who wanted her to come to you. We needed her to save you, and she rejected all of this and treated the bonding as dirt. Now, you're both boning her as if you're on a never-ending honeymoon."

"I-I didn't…" She twisted her hands in her apron. Her face was pale and red spots dotted her cheeks.

My gut clenched at the thought that I was hurting her, but I couldn't make myself apologize. I couldn't forget what she'd done and her prejudice against us when she didn't even know us.

Sky rolled his hands into fists. "We've been over this," he said in a cool voice.

"Save it." I lifted my chin, and the muscle in my jaw twitched.

"Why do you have to be so fucking hard on her?" Winter slapped the wooden spoon down on the counter. "If you could try to make this work…"

"She's got you both by the dicks," I snarled. "What the fuck would you know about how to make this work? All you do is listen to her and crawl up her ass every chance you get—even if it means your brother is hungry as hell." I didn't give a shit anymore. "Fuck the three of you. I'm out."

Not listening to their protests, I stormed into the living room and snatched my boots.

I shoved my feet inside and was in the elevator before any of them came out of the kitchen.

There was no way I'd stay in this house with those three. I'd never bond with another werewolf. Ever. And they could forget about my making her my mate. A half-breed? Not a fucking chance.

I slammed the elevator door and rode it down.

I was fed up with all their bullshit. Fagua created a wedge between us and neither of my brothers could see it.
