Chapter 20 - A small loan of a million coins?

Perfect, perfect. Facing his father's serious inquiry, Galen was confident and in control. Please, call me "Galen Crouching Dragon Trollbane."

"Father, I understand the kind of trolls I'll be facing. They are primitive, savage, and brutal, and they will even eat humans," Galen said, his emotions slightly agitated.

Having played a troll druid in his previous life, Galen had no prejudice against the troll race. He knew that the trolls in the game were just a small, relatively enlightened Darkspear tribe, and he also knew that in the game's world, some trolls ate everything—humans, even their own kind.

After transmigrating to Azeroth, he was in a real world, able to truly feel the world. The idea of trolls eating people was no longer just a virtual game background. He had heard of it and had seen it in the trolls' baggage carts.

He couldn't accept it.

Humans were on the trolls' menu, the kingdom's people, his future people. He had the ability to change this, and he had to change it.

"Father, a dozen days ago, my guards and I encountered a group of twenty trolls in this mining area. We annihilated them all. In Tirisfall, we identified two of them as being on the kingdom's army's wanted list: a troll witch doctor named Hex'jin and a warrior named Drek'maz. They were the backbone of the Revantusk tribe and had led attacks on our villages many times."

"I personally beheaded them all, Father."

Galen spoke the last sentence to Thoras with a firm tone.

A brief silence fell in the study.

Thoras seemed to sense Galen's determination from his words. He was silent for a long time before saying, "I agree."

These words were like heavenly music to Galen's ears. He immediately raised his head and looked at his father with burning eyes.

"Thank you, Father."

"Don't be too happy." Seeing Galen's delighted and beaming expression, Thoras immediately poured cold water on him.

"That mining area is the Trollbane family's ancestral property. I can give you the mining rights to that area. As for the fief, you will be granted the power to have a fief after you turn sixteen."

"I will give you a squadron of cavalry to expand your original guard. Other than that, I have no additional support to give you."

Galen was dumbfounded after hearing this. The first half was going according to his script—land for land, people for people, even an elite unit like the Highland Cavalry Regiment. Although it was only a squadron, the selection criteria for the cavalry regiment was at least intermediate strength; the weakest among them almost reached adept.

I guessed the beginning, but I didn't guess the ending.

It didn't matter if he got a fief or not. Galen just wanted a superficial army to cover up the troop types he trained using the base.

Having mining rights was also acceptable. He could take charge of the army and recruit mining personnel himself. When the time came, it would be so easy to mix things into the army and the mining area.

But Thoras had no other support besides a squadron of cavalry? No financial support? Wasn't he going to give him any money? At least a little, right?

"Father, won't you support me with some gold coins? Give me some initial capital?"

Galen couldn't accept this. He couldn't even make a ripple by recharging ten thousand gold coins into the base. At most, he could train a hundred footmen. He needed Thoras's financial support; he really needed the money.

"The kingdom's treasury doesn't have any extra gold coins. The army's weapons and equipment need to be replaced, and an order has already been placed with Ironforge. This is a large expense. Stromgarde Keep needs to be repaired, and farmers need to be conscripted and paid wages. We are unable to allocate funds to you."

"Not even a little?"

"The next tax collection will be after the autumn harvest, which will still take some time. After the autumn harvest, the surplus grain will be traded, and then a sum of money can be allocated to you from the national treasury."

"Don't you have your own caravan? You've saved up a small fortune over the years, right? Solve the early stages yourself. The time to test your ability has come."

Seeing that Thoras really didn't have any money, Galen had to give up the idea of asking for land, people, and money. Although he had only achieved half of his goals today, he was still very happy.

Just having the mining rights was an exciting thing. Since ancient times, mines have meant money. Look, is there anything that can better show others that my family is rich and I'm a tycoon than the phrase "My family owns a mine"?

No one can refuse a mine that is offered to them, and since Thoras didn't mention taxes, Galen would assume that he didn't need to pay taxes to his father.

Not saying you have to means you don't have to. No problem.

Others might be troubled by the initial expenses. Recruiting laborers requires paying resettlement fees first, and then wages later. But he didn't need to worry about these problems. As long as he used farmers trained by the base, he wouldn't need to pay resettlement fees or wages, just ensure they had three square meals a day.

I, Galen, the largest landlord in the Arathi Highlands in the future, have no shortage of food.

His biggest problem now was that the base's mine was fully loaded with harvesting, and he needed to open a branch mine.

However, he still needed to prepare some initial capital, as that would speed up the base's progress. Relying solely on the speed at which Galen's caravan made money was like a drop in the bucket.

The farmers' harvesting speed was ten units of resources per hour. Galen had already experimented with this. Ten units of gold were equivalent to a value of 5 gold coins. This speed was quite amazing.

However, this was useless. The base only accepted resources and didn't output them. Galen hadn't found an option to convert the gold mined by the farmers into gold coins. Moreover, Galen discovered that the gold resources defined by the base might not only refer to gold mines.

Including rare minerals associated with gold mines, or copper mines, silver mines, etc. that were mined. After the farmers finished mining, the town hall would absorb them all and convert them uniformly into the energy needed by the base, and this energy was simply and crudely named gold by the base.

It was also difficult for the great god of the Origin Heart Base. Galen expressed his admiration.

As for wood, after Galen's repeated observations, it took about an hour for a farmer to cut down, process, and move a hundred-year-old tree that was as thick as a person could hug into the lumber mill.

In the primeval forest where the base was located, these hundred-year-old trees were about ten meters tall. The farmers would remove the branches and then process them into one-meter-long pieces, and then transport them to the lumber mill. The base's wood display would show +1.

Galen was quite satisfied with the farmers' speed of collecting resources.

Moreover, the larger the base number of farmers, the faster the resource collection speed would increase exponentially. The base had no population limit, as long as the farm construction speed kept up and there was no shortage of food, training a large number of farmers was a way to increase his current strength.

The mine on the base side was already fully staffed with miners. For this reason, Galen specifically asked Cliff to divide the mining personnel into two shifts in order to most effectively collect gold.

Originally, Galen had hoped that his father could support him with a sum of money, and then he would recharge it into the town hall again, and then create a wave of farmers and infantry to open a branch mine in the southeast mining area, which was the location of Stonefist Hall.

This idea has now been shattered.
