Chapter 8 - .8

Maybe awakening a talent happens naturally.

The bracelet only recorded the type of talent, but didn't explain how the awakening actually happens.

Danielle's eyes sparkled as she looked at Zachary, making him nervous and unsure what to do with his hands and feet.

"I—I've heard a few things…"

Zachary was an orphan. His parents were unknown, and he grew up in a children's welfare center.

He had to rely on himself for everything, so if he couldn't find information, he would find a way to dig it up.

"Talents exist in our chest. When we are about to awaken them, our chest will start glowing sometimes."

Danielle nodded, then suddenly grabbed Zachary and pulled at his clothes to look.

No light.

Zachary was stunned, placing his hands on the sofa, unsure how to react in front of Danielle.

Seeing Danielle about to pull at her own clothes, Zachary quickly turned away. A red flush spread from his ears to his face.

"You! Can't you be a bit more modest?"

"Zachary! Zachary!"

Danielle's sudden scream startled him, and he looked back instinctively.

"What's wrong? What happened?"

As he turned around, he saw a glimpse of pale skin and froze.

Danielle didn't care about that. She grabbed him and pulled him toward her.

"Look! Look! Is that light? Isn't it?"

A soft green light was faintly glowing from her chest. Zachary glanced quickly and turned away, blushing even more.

"Yeah… it probably is."

Danielle was just about to say something when the green light suddenly brightened. Her whole body was wrapped in the glow and disappeared.

Zachary was shocked. He had never seen anyone awaken before, and nervously called out.

"Danielle! Danielle!"

Little Rain, who was playing on the floor, turned around and saw his recently healthier mom turn into a glowing green ball. He burst into tears.

"Mama! What's happening to you?"

Zachary quickly hugged the crying child, not letting him get close to Danielle.

"Don't worry. Your mom is okay."

Zachary tried to sound calm, but he wasn't confident inside.

They said awakening wasn't dangerous, but this seemed like a big deal.

The whole house had been lit up in green light for a moment. He'd never heard of anyone awakening with such a huge reaction.

While Zachary was nervous and uncertain, Danielle seemed to return to that dream with only voices.

"You finally came back. We've waited for you for so long. It's good that you're back."

"Who are you? Why are you waiting for me?"

Danielle asked again, but no one answered.

The next moment, she woke from the dream and found herself standing in a field.

Yes, just an ordinary field, full of different vegetables and fruits, all looking fresh and juicy.

Danielle quickly forgot the strange dream and started picking things like crazy. These were all money! All of it!

Just as she was happily harvesting, the space around her twisted, and it felt like she was pushed back fast.

"No! My veggies!"

Danielle suddenly opened her eyes. "My veggies!"

Huh?

Was that… a dream within a dream? Were those fruits and vegetables fake?

She felt a bit disappointed when a soft little body ran into her arms.

Rain was crying hard, with tears and snot all over.

"Waaah! Mama, you finally woke up. I was so scared!"

Danielle hugged him and gently comforted him, then looked up at Zachary with silent questions.

When she saw him, she was also startled. His short hair had grown longer, and his clean-shaven chin was now covered in scruffy stubble. He looked like a homeless man.

"What happened to you two?"

Zachary let out a sigh of relief. "You were unconscious for a whole month!"

If her bracelet hadn't stayed silent without any danger alerts, he would've lost hope.

A whole month?

Danielle twitched the corners of her mouth slightly and touched her stomach.

How strange.

She'd been unconscious for a month, but she didn't feel hungry at all.

Danielle was most curious about what kind of ability she had awakened.

"Come on, Rain, go find your dad. Mommy's going to check her ability."

She quickly pushed Rain into Zachary's arms and eagerly pulled her clothes open.

Zachary turned around with the reluctant child in his arms.

This woman! So unreserved.

But after a while, Danielle still didn't say what kind of ability it was.

Zachary thought maybe it wasn't anything useful and tried to comfort her.

"It's okay if it's not useful. Tomorrow I'll join the hunting team and earn more money."

Danielle stayed silent for a moment and tugged on Zachary's clothes.

"I'm not sure what's going on. Come look at it."

The ability mark was in such a private place that Zachary felt too embarrassed to look.

He frowned tightly.

"You can check it yourself. The symbol should show up on the wristband."

"Oh, come on! Don't waste time. Hurry up."

Danielle tugged harder, nearly pulling his clothes off. Zachary sighed, covered Rain's eyes, and awkwardly turned around.

"What does the mark look like…"

Before he could finish, his eyes widened.

On her fair skin were two symbols side by side—a lively sprouting plant and a swirling spiral symbol.

Two abilities! The plant symbol was currently ranked number one in the ability rankings. Zachary was shocked.

After seeing his reaction, Danielle pulled her clothes back down.

"Everyone else has one ability. Why do I have two?"

Zachary swallowed hard. "I've never heard of this before."

He looked at her with complicated emotions. Either of those abilities alone could let Danielle return to her powerful family. Especially that top-ranked one. Would she still choose to stay?

In his complicated thoughts, his arm squeezed a bit too tight, and Rain cried out in pain and hit him.

"Daddy, that hurts!"

"Sorry, I didn't mean to. Are you okay?"

Zachary quickly tried to comfort the child, but Rain twisted away from him and reached out to Danielle instead.

With a bitter heart, Zachary handed Rain over.

"Don't bother your mom, she…"

He couldn't finish the sentence.

Danielle stayed silent, then decided to hide the truth. The plant ability was special, and ever since she woke up, her wristband had been glowing faintly.

It had sensed her ability, but couldn't fully detect what it was.

Skilled with the device, she selected the space ability and entered that as her official record.

"All done."

She closed the virtual screen and reached out to Rain.

"Come to Mommy."

After hesitating, Zachary finally let go of the struggling child.

Danielle played with Rain a bit, then turned to Zachary.

"Alright, now that's settled. You should pack our things later."

Pack?

Zachary gave a bitter smile.

So she really was leaving?

A person with dual abilities—such a high-level person—would never stay with someone ordinary like him.

"Okay, I'll pack your things. But… before you leave, could you spend more time with Rain?"

He only lowered himself like this for the child's sake.

Danielle blinked innocently. "Why? Do you have something to do?"

"No… It's just that Rain will be sad when you leave…"

After saying that, Zachary turned and rushed into the bathroom.

Danielle was confused for a moment, then realized Zachary had misunderstood her.

Thinking for a second, a mischievous glint flashed in her eyes. She leaned close to Rain and whispered a few words…
