Chapter 24 - .24

"Humph, don't worry, she will never come back in this lifetime."

Ning Wanrong snorted coldly.

Dora looked up in surprise. "Mom, are you going to take action?"

"As long as you awaken the plant ability, the whole Duo family will be yours. Your grandfather won't even remember that worthless Danielle."

"Mom, have you found the person who can awaken the plant ability?" Dora asked, her excitement showing as she hurriedly stood up, ignoring the fact that she was still kneeling.

Ning Wanrong shook her head slightly. "This matter can't be investigated openly. Wait a little longer. We can't let other big families notice."

Otherwise, once the lie is exposed, it will be impossible to cover it up.

"I have something more important for you to do. Tomorrow, pack up and go stay in the Sky City for a while."

Dora was confused. "Sky City? Mom, what am I going there for?"

Sky City!

It was the center of power in the entire Pure Land, with each of the eight major families having a representative there.

The representative had more authority than the family heads, but they usually kept a low profile.

She was not qualified to go there at all.

Except for the few representatives, no one knew what the Sky City was like.

Ning Wanrong's expression was strange, a mix of madness and desire.

"Don't ask why. Just go when you're told."

"By the way, have you memorized that thing I gave you?"

Ning Wanrong suddenly turned to look at Dora, her sharp gaze seeming to pierce through her soul.

Dora felt a tightening in her chest. "Mom, I've memorized it."

"Since you've memorized it, then burn it," Ning Wanrong said, glancing at the mess on the floor. "Control your temper from now on. A savior can't be someone with a volatile temper."

Her words carried a warning, and Dora shuddered again.

"Yes, Mom, I understand. I won't do it again."

"You don't need to worry about Danielle. She can't cause any trouble," Ning Wanrong said dismissively before turning to leave.

If it weren't for the fact that killing Danielle might make Duoyun Chang suspicious, she would have already taken action.

A woman who had been kicked out of her home and had only auxiliary abilities—what could she do, even if she was beautiful?

As long as Ning Wanrong had full control of the Duo family, other families would have to respect her and wouldn't help Danielle.

Moreover, there was that person. Ning Wanrong's eyes sparked with fanaticism as she quickly walked to a room at the end of the corridor...

In the Duo family's living room.

"Mom, why hasn't Zachary come out yet?"

Rain's eyes were filled with tears. This was the first time he had been separated from Zachary since he was born.

Danielle held him in her arms and comforted him, "It will be soon, very soon."

Her words were unconvincing. After all, for the past half month, she had been saying this every day, but Zachary had remained steadfastly hidden in her space.

Ding-dong! Ding-dong!

The doorbell rang.

Danielle was a little surprised. Since moving to the middle circle, no one had come to visit her.

The neighbor, Chu Xiong, didn't count—he was just a tea drinker.

Seeing three figures in the door frame, Danielle's face showed a hint of joy.

"Leng, Fei Yang, what are you two doing here? Come in!"

Fei Yang's eyes sparkled as he rushed in. "Danielle, your house is so big!"

Leng, with her cold demeanor, didn't show much expression, though her eyes flickered slightly. She handed Danielle a bag containing an apple.

"This is for you."

An apple?

Danielle raised an eyebrow. It was quite a gift.

Tomatoes sold for two thousand each in the middle circle, and apples were far more expensive, five thousand each.

Leng pursed her lips. "This is a gift from the three of us. Don't think it's too little."

Lu Yi smiled beside her, extending his hand toward Danielle.

"I'm Lu Yi. I still haven't properly thanked you for saving my life."

It was so straightforward and generous to admit the help others had given her.

There was no shame or jealousy, no bad emotions at all.

Hmm.

She's a good person.

Danielle returned the handshake and took the apple from Leng.

"Well, I won't be polite then. I was thinking about buying apples last time, but they were so expensive, so I didn't buy any."

"You really know how to give gifts. My son is going to be so happy in a bit."

As she spoke, she guided them into the house.

Rain was very polite, greeting each of them in turn.

No matter how cold Leng's nature was, she couldn't help but feel a bit flustered when faced with such a cute child.

Especially when she saw the plate of tomatoes on the dining table, her face turned slightly red.

These were more expensive than apples!

Fei Yang and the others didn't think too much, just kept praising the house.

Danielle smiled and chatted a little, then pushed the fruit platter toward them.

"Come, come, eat something first."

Fei Yang's eyes widened a little. When he entered earlier, he had noticed the tomatoes.

But he didn't dare to look over there.

Now that Danielle offered them, he didn't dare to eat either.

They were so expensive; what kind of family would use tomatoes to entertain guests?

It was definitely just a polite gesture.

Fei Yang and the others repeatedly waved their hands in refusal, "No, no, it's too precious!"

Rain tilted his little head beside them. "Uncle Fei, just eat it. We have plenty. I'm almost full already."

"Rain."

Danielle scolded him with a serious face.

The other three people looked awkward. This was the difference, after all.

"Don't listen to him, he's just talking nonsense. Kids say silly things. But these tomatoes really aren't expensive."

Seeing their surprised expressions, Danielle smiled slightly.

"Because I grew them myself. Go ahead, try them. They're free."

What?

She grew them herself?

Fei Yang and the others were shocked when they heard this.

"Danielle, you can actually grow tomatoes?"

Danielle blinked, looking innocent.

"What's wrong? Don't you know how to grow them?"

Fei Yang jumped up from the couch, "Of course not."

"Danielle, you must know that almost all vegetables and fruits come from Sky City, right?"

"Who would grow them normally?"

Danielle looked at Leng, as she really didn't know this.

But if no one could grow them, why did her yard have a small garden?

She only bought the house because of the little garden, otherwise, she could have bought a cheaper apartment.

Leng nodded, "That's true."

"Wait, but how do the trees outside on the streets and in the parks exist? If no one can plant them, where do they come from?"

Danielle voiced her confusion.

Lu Yi grew even more curious about this life-saving benefactor. How could she not understand such a simple thing?

"Didn't you notice that all those plants have flowerpots underneath?"

Danielle had never paid attention to that.

"These plants are all transported from Sky City. It's said that they can only survive in the land around the mother tree."

And the mother tree is located in Sky City.

No one knew exactly how big Sky City was, but there was only a simple picture online.

A white palace-like building stood in the center of the sky, high above the central circle.

It couldn't be seen from the middle circle, but that didn't stop them from admiring Sky City.
