Chapter 1 - 1. Infidelity

"I'm not a murderer. I never killed Don Salvatore! I loved him as my dad. Someone set me up! How can I make you believe my words?!" Constance rebuked wearily. Her whole body was bloodied and ached.

Constance flinched; she was helpless since Enzo gave orders to his soldiers to lock and torture her inside the dark mansion's dungeon.

She never knew that Morelli's mansion had a horrible dark place where Enzo kept innocent girls for trade. There are still many hidden crimes that he commits.

His bodyguards forcibly dragged Constance after she was accused of the premeditated murder of Don Salvatore, Lorenzo's father. Beating her to a bloody pulp.

The pressure burning all over her face and body was unbearable. Dry blood seeped down her cheeks. The cold chain cuffs shackled her wrists and ankles.

She cursed hatefully. "You're all insane! You can't do this to me! This is criminal! I'm not willing to confess to a crime I never committed!

"It didn't occur to me to kill my beloved father-in-law! As long as he was sick. I took good care of him! You know how much he trusted me!"

Giuseppe sighed deeply. He folded his arms over his chest and regarded Constance disdainfully. "You're a disaster for this potent famiglia since you came here for the first time! It's too late; your choice now is Morte. DEATH!"

"I do not fear death!" Constance scoffed with mirth. "Why would he want me dead so badly? Kill and throw me away?! Wasn't that sickening treatment enough throughout our hellish marriage?

"He was always insulting and bullying me! I was a lowly slave, and he never thought of me as his wife! Where is he now?! Still acting cowardly?!"

"Well. Well. So, this is where my padre's killer will die." Enzo chuckled, showed up, and hummed tauntingly.

The narrow rusty grate door that had been strangling Constance's breathing from the start was rudely opened wide. She was startled violently; her brows narrowed sharply as she watched Enzo come holding Vittoria's hand intimately beside him.

As if a dagger impaled Constance's heart, not knowing what exactly happened, yet Connie's tears had already dried up.

Even so, her soul was bleeding from loving Lorenzo Morelli in vain, who never considered her or saw her as a wife.

Two years passed, and Connie endured the hellish marriage only because of the kindness of Don Salvatore, who loved her as a native daughter.

Connie never felt the warmth of a father figure as a child born from an orphanage. She always feels indebted to Salvatore for all the good life he has given her.

Connie can feel university life thanks to him. That's why she is heartened to accept her bad luck of being trapped in an arranged marriage with Salvatore's only son—Lorenzo Morelli.

Yet Vittoria Speranza? The best friend Constance had since college, clasping Lorenzo's fingers lovingly at that moment.

For the sake of everything in heaven and earth, this frightened Connie like the dumbest person. Connie snarled indignantly. "What the hell is this?"

Vittoria grinned lopsidedly, not looking innocent. She hugged Enzo even tighter. She announced, narcissistically. "Sorry, Connie. I should have told you earlier. I'm pregnant. It's Enzo's baby."

***

"What?!"

As a legal wife, she was burning with the flames of jealousy and resentment. Connie couldn't accept that.

Lorenzo had never been nice to her—Connie could still tolerate it, but being accused of killing Salvatore, now seeing he had an affair with her best friend—her bloody eyes heated up. She cursed deadpan. "Traitor."

Enzo snickered wryly, ordering Guiseppe to take out the file. Giuseppe threw the divorce paper roughly before Connie. "I'm not here to make pleasantries. I'm going to marry Vittoria soon.

"So, here are our divorce papers—you had better sign them fast. No drama, you knew this would happen."

"How could you do this to me?!" asked Connie in a trembling voice as if cracked glass; there was raw grief in her tone. Half of her life had flown away. Bloodied, then her world collapsed instantly beneath her feet.

Painful and suffocating, Connie's heart broke remembering all the things that had happened in her life. Part of her begged that this was just a nightmare. Her breathing was intermittent. Her body rumbling with intense flabbergast.

"We love each other, Connie." Vittoria spoke, feigning sadness, a miserable look on her face, not guilt, turning to veiled mockery. "I can't do anything about that. After all, your marriage was based on an agreement, wasn't it?

"I was the only one Enzo loved. My mistake; our friends even used it so that I could always see him. You know what? We often f**ked while you were swamped tending to Don Salvatore as he lay sick. Thanks to you.

"Don't hate me. I must admit that it's also nice to have an idiot friend like you."

This helplessness gathered in the recesses of Constance's soul, sparking the blaze of hatred, rage, and vengeance that surpassed her fear and exhaustion.

Connie couldn't end like this. After all her kindness, compassion, and dedication to the Morelli famiglia, Constance Sylvaine didn't deserve this!

Enough of all this madness!

"F**k you!" Connie was pissed off and jolted up from the cold tiled floor; she grunted madly. Wanting to kill Lorenzo and Vittoria apart, yet the steel chains that shackled her wrist and ankles restrained her entirely.

Forcing Connie to stagger, fall forward, and pathetically drop to her knees before them. Enzo's bodyguard did not hesitate to hit her brutally.

Blood seeped from her head wildly, again.

They're roaring maliciously under her suffering.

Enzo shrieked, furiously. "You killed my beloved padre! I can't forget how his corpse lay stiff before my eyes! You poisoned his medicine with cyanide! Murderer! Sign the divorce papers now! I'm sick of dealing with you!

"After this I can acquire all of Morelli's assets permanently! I'm the ultimate heir! I married you only to retain all the assets of the Morelli fortune as per my padre's will! I didn't wanna have a lowly wife like you from the beginning!

"If it weren't for my padre suspending my inheritance and throne, I would have married Vittoria long ago!"
