Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 Saplings

It may take a long time from planting fruit trees to growing fruits, but he lacks everything now, except time.

Even the Diggersby could take care of the fruit trees so well, so there was no reason why he couldn't! Besides, it didn't cost anything to try. So he said to the Diggersby, "Is that sapling yours too?"

The Diggersby looked in the direction of Eddie's finger, wondering: Hmm? When did a sapling appear there? Did the fruit core I threw sprout?

It's just a small sapling. It's unknown how long it will take for it to grow up and bear fruit, and it doesn't have the energy to take care of another one.

So the Diggersby shook his head to indicate that it was not his.

Eddie said happily, "Can I take it away?"

Seeing that the Diggersby didn't care, Eddie quickly called Selene to go dig up the fruit tree together.

As Selene dug, she thought: Baby is so smart. Why didn't we think of growing fruit trees ourselves before? (Eddie: I was a simpleton before.)

The mother and son quickly dug out the fruit tree along with the soil at its roots. Although Eddie was not an agricultural student, he knew this common sense, and this was conducive to the survival of the fruit tree.

After getting the fruit tree, the mother and son returned home happily.

The first thing Eddie did when he returned home was to find Director Eleanor, who was telling stories to Oliver, Max, and others at the moment.

He ran over and said to Director Eleanor word by word: "Director Eleanor...I...um...plant trees...can I do that?"

Director Eleanor looked at the sapling that Selene was holding in surprise: "Eddie, do you want to plant this tree?"

Eddie nodded.

Director Eleanor thought for a while, then nodded and agreed with a smile: "Of course, no problem. I'll go find a place for you outside?"

Eddie nodded gratefully: "Thank you, Director Eleanor."

So Director Eleanor stood up and said to them on the balcony: "Wait a moment, I will be back soon."

"Grandma Eleanor, go ahead, we'll be waiting for you." Max said obediently, holding Daisy in her arms.

Under the guidance of Grandma Eleanor, Eddie and his friends came to the back of the orphanage, where there was a small open space that also belonged to the orphanage.

Originally, Grandma Eleanor wanted to use this place to grow flowers, but she had too many things to do and had no energy to take care of the garden, so the place was left vacant.

Before they came, Director Eleanor found Eddie a small shovel and a kettle for watering.

"Eddie, do you think it's okay to plant it here?" asked Director Eleanor.

"Okay, thank you Director Eleanor."

After saying that, Eddie chose a place, took a small shovel, and started digging.

"Do you need my help?" Director Eleanor asked kindly when she saw Eddie sticking his butt out and trying very hard to dig up a small piece of soil.

Eddie shook his head and refused: "I can do it myself."

Director Eleanor just thought that Eddie was a child and that he just wanted to plant trees for fun on a whim, and she didn't take it seriously at all.

"Then be careful and don't hurt yourself. I'm going to go back first. Call me if you have any problem."

Eddie nodded as he dug a hole.

After Director Eleanor left, Eddie dug for a long time before he dug out a hole of the right size and depth and planted the sapling.

In order to ensure the survival of the saplings, he also pulled out the extra branches and leaves on the tree, leaving only the main trunk.

"Shanai~Shanai~" Baby, why are you pulling its leaves? What if it dies? Wouldn't we have worked in vain?

Selene knew nothing about planting trees. She looked confused and didn't understand Eddie's behavior.

Eddie explained: "The saplings have just moved and are not used to the new place, so their roots are less able to absorb nutrients. Pulling off the excess branches and leaves can reduce water loss and thus increase the survival rate of the saplings."

"Is that so? Baby is really amazing!" Selene felt impressed.

"After the trees are planted, they need to be watered. Mom, I'll leave it to you!" It was really difficult for him to fetch a bucket of water with his small body.

If there is something wrong, go to Mom. If there is nothing wrong, go to Selene! Humph, men... Selene left angrily with the kettle.

Looking at Selene holding the kettle to water the saplings, Eddie suddenly had an inspiration.

Magical creatures like Pokémon have special energy circuits in their bodies, so they can perform all kinds of strange and bizarre methods. What about fruit trees?

The fruits of the Pokémon trees have all kinds of magical powers. Some can replenish physical strength, some can eliminate abnormal conditions, and some can increase the intimacy between Pokémon and trainers... Most importantly, the Pokémon food they make can increase the original energy in the Pokémon's body.

So to some extent, are fruit trees also a special kind of organisms?

Could the fruit tree also have special energy circuits? Eddie made a bold guess and immediately ran to the sapling to verify his guess.

He placed his hand on the trunk of the sapling and then input his golden finger energy into it.

After continuously using health care on Selene and the Fletchling during this period of time, Eddie's golden finger energy has become stronger, and his control over the golden finger energy is also incomparable, allowing him to perform more sophisticated operations.

As soon as the golden finger energy entered the sapling's body, an emerald green tree diagram appeared in Eddie's mind. The tree diagram had lush branches and leaves, and a faint special energy flowed inside.

It really is! Eddie was overjoyed, his guess was right!

This energy in the sapling is somewhat similar to the original energy in the Pokémon energy circuit, but also very different.

The energy in the Pokémon's body is more active and more fluid.

To put it in an analogy, the energy circuit in a Pokémon's body is like a wide river with turbulent water flowing from one place to another with an unstoppable momentum.

The energy diagram inside the sapling is like a tranquil stream. It is very quiet and the energy inside is like a slowly flowing stream, starting from the roots of the energy diagram and slowly flowing to the trunk and branches.

Eddie tried to purify and compress the energy in the energy diagram like regulating the Pokémon energy circuit, and it worked. Because the energy properties are different, the operations of the two are slightly different, but the principles are the same.

After taking the golden finger energy back from the sapling's body, Eddie carefully observed the sapling's condition, but did not find any difference from before.

Yes, it would be difficult to see any changes in such a short period of time. Besides, fruit trees are not like Pokémon that have their own consciousness and can give him feedback on their feelings in a timely manner.

I need more samples for experiments! Eddie thought, but where can I find fruit trees? This sapling was hard to come by, and it might be difficult to get more. The next day, when Grandma Eleanor was about to go out to buy groceries, Eddie followed her and asked, "Can I... come with you?"

Director Eleanor originally wanted to refuse, but then she thought about how Eddie had always lived in the wild and had little contact with humans. Even in the orphanage he would only have limited contact with the few children in the yard, so she thought it would be a good idea to take him out to let him interact with more people.

Besides, Eddie has always behaved very well. Whenever he has free time, he and Selene help her with housework. Occasionally, if she has a small request, there is nothing he can't agree to.

"Okay, but you have to be good and don't run around," Director Eleanor warned.

"Well, don't worry!" Eddie assured with a serious expression.

Director Eleanor thought it was cute that he was pretending to be a little adult and patted the back of his head in amusement.

Coumarine City is divided into two parts by a long light rail and a steep cliff. One side is close to the sea and is a prosperous urban area; the other side is close to the mountain and is a quiet suburb. The Blue Bird Orphanage is located in the suburbs.

Although the suburbs are not as prosperous as the city, there are also many people living here, so there are still many necessary infrastructures here.

Under the guidance of Director Eleanor, Eddie took a short light rail ride, walked a short distance, and finally arrived at a busy vegetable market.

Many vendors in the vegetable market know Director Eleanor. When they see her, they will greet her warmly and then ask about Eddie who is following her.

After learning that Eddie was a new member of the Bluebird Orphanage, some vegetable vendors would give Director Eleanor a little more when she bought vegetables.

When passing by a fruit stand, Eddie suddenly pointed to the empty space next to the stand and said to Director Eleanor: "Director Eleanor, can I...wait for you...here?"

Director Eleanor thought Eddie was tired, so she agreed and told him: "Stay here and don't run around. I'll come pick you up later."

It just so happened that the stall owner was also an acquaintance of Director Eleanor, so she asked the stall owner to help keep an eye on Eddie, and the stall owner readily agreed.

The stall owner is a warm-hearted lady, probably in her thirties, a little plump and not particularly tall, but her smile is very contagious and easily makes people like her.

After Director Eleanor left, the stall owner looked at Eddie and asked, "Little boy, what's your name?"

Eddie answered obediently: "Eddie."

"You're so good. My name is Sarah, and you can call me Aunt Sarah." The stall owner rubbed Eddie's head, took two fruits from the stall and handed them to him, saying, "Here, eat them. Stay here and don't run around, okay? Call me anytime if you need anything."

Eddie took the fruit and nodded, then suddenly pointed to a basket under the stall and asked, "Can you give me that...?"

The box contained some rotten fruits, which Sarah planned to throw away after closing the stall. She thought Eddie wanted to eat those fruits, so she said:

"Those are all bad, you can't eat them." She took two good fruits from the stall and handed them to Eddie, "I'll give you two more, don't eat the bad ones."

This time Eddie did not accept it. He explained word by word: "Thank you, Aunt Sarah, that...I have a use...I don't eat it."

Sarah was relieved, and dragged the basket out from under the stall, then told Eddie again: "I can give it to you, but don't eat it, or you'll get an upset stomach."

Eddie nodded obediently, then dragged the basket to a corner of an empty space and stayed there obediently. Sarah saw this scene and then she felt relieved to continue her business.

Eddie in the corner poured out all the rotten fruits, then removed the flesh one by one and put it aside, leaving only the cores.

Eddie came to the market just for these fruit cores, but he didn't expect to get them so easily.

In the absence of fruit trees, in order to obtain more experimental samples, Eddie thought of using seeds to cultivate fruit trees. Although it takes some time, it is nothing to Eddie.

After peeling each fruit core from the flesh, Eddie would check it with his golden finger. He would keep the ones that contained special energy because they should be easier to germinate, and those that were empty inside would be discarded.

Of course, not all fruits contain seeds. Some fruits contain nothing but pulp.

The rotten fruits would give off a strong smell which was very pungent. Eddie endured the smell and peeled the fruits for a long time before he finished peeling a basket of fruits. In the end, he got a dozen seeds of different sizes.

"Huh~ I finally finished peeling it!" Eddie let out a long sigh of relief, "I was really dying of suffocation!"

After putting the seeds into a prepared bag, Eddie put the remaining pulp back into the basket and tied them up with the bag that was already in the basket, intending to take them away and throw them away when he left.

"Little boy, it's you!"

At this moment, Eddie suddenly heard a voice. He looked up and saw a big sister with long hair in a green dress looking at him in surprise.

"Do you remember me? Police station, Officer Jenny's friend, Machi."

Of course Eddie remembered her. If it weren't for the help of this older sister, he didn't know how much effort it would take to explain his story clearly.

Seeing Eddie looking at her in surprise, Machi suddenly said, "Oh... by the way, you can't understand me."

Hearing this, Eddie quickly explained: "Now... you can."

Machi knew a little about Eddie's situation and said in surprise: "That's great, I didn't expect you to be so smart. Your name is Eddie, right? What are you doing here?"

At this time, Machi suddenly noticed the rotten fruit in the box under Eddie's feet, and remembered that Eddie had just entered the orphanage, so she thought he wanted to eat fruit, so she handed him the fruit she had just bought.

"This is for you."

Eddie quickly refused: "I don't want it."

"It's okay, sister can buy another one. This one is for you as a gift for our farewell." Machi insisted on giving it to Eddie.

Should I give you a gift? I am penniless and have nothing.

"I don't want it." Eddie insisted.

Machi thought Eddie didn't want it because he had a strong sense of self-esteem, so she had to give up.

In fact, Eddie didn't have any super strong self-esteem. He just felt that it was unnecessary. He was not a real child, so he was greedy for a few bites of fruit. Hadn't he eaten enough fruit on the island? After eating it for several years, he was almost suffering from PTSD related to fruit.

"Okay then, I'll come see you when I have time."

Machi chatted with Eddie for a few words and then left.

Director Eleanor came back soon after buying groceries. After thanking Sarah, she took Eddie back to Bluebird Orphanage.
