Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Veera heard the man's words and was slightly stunned, her pupils contracting.

Going home together? That word felt unfamiliar to her.

Before she could respond, Wade took her hand and walked toward the residential compound.

Looking at his flushed face, Veera couldn't help but smile.

This man wasn't so calm after all.

He seemed a bit overly innocent—was he really blushing over this?

She had never seen a man like this in the apocalypse.

Without realizing it, her interest had been completely piqued by the man in front of her.

Her eyes curved as she smiled, squeezing the hand holding hers and teasing him on purpose:

"Then you better hold tight, don't lose me."

Wade chuckled and leaned even closer to her. "Don't worry, sweetheart. You're my precious treasure. I'd rather lose my life than let you go."

Veera looked at him thoughtfully.

She was his precious treasure? More important than life?

Her eyes slowly ran over the man. He was exactly her type—tall, strong, broad-shouldered.

His clothes were stretched tight from his muscles—he looked powerful, with clear muscle lines.

She couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like to be treasured by such a man.

She looked down at herself: full chest, long slender legs.

With her fair, soft hands, she gently touched the smooth flesh on her waist.

Satisfied, she nodded inwardly. This body...

Soft and delicate—it felt like it could drive people crazy.

She knew only by being tempting enough could she make her prey let down his guard and fall deep.

If Wade, that reserved man, knew what his wife was thinking...

He would be so happy he'd lose all sense of direction, and cheerfully tell her:

"Sweetheart, you don't need to do anything. I've already fallen for you."

"If you want me, I'll be all clean and waiting, even willing to offer tips."

His only fear would be scaring her off by being too eager.

Unfortunately, neither of them could read minds.

One was completely clueless, the other too sharp.

Even though Veera didn't respond, Wade didn't seem to mind. He finally voiced something he had kept in his heart.

His mood became lighter.

Although he didn't get an answer from her, she didn't pull away from his hand either.

When they arrived at the residential compound, Wade let Veera sit on the sofa.

"Sweetheart, sit here. I'll make food right away."

As soon as he finished speaking, he hurried into the kitchen.

He quickly picked up the thermos on the ground, poured the hot water into the pot, and turned the coal stove to the highest setting.

He was afraid Veera was starving.

His actions were swift and smooth.

In no time, he brought out a steaming bowl of noodles.

Wade grinned as he carried the bowl over. "Sweetheart, noodles are ready. Time to eat."

Veera looked at the scene—it seemed a little too warm, almost unreal.

"This is for me?"

She stared straight at the noodles, swallowing unconsciously.

Not bad. The portion was generous.

Wade placed the bowl in front of her and handed her chopsticks. His voice grew even more gentle, like coaxing a child:

"Yes, I made it for you. Try it. Tell me if it tastes good."

He saw the way Veera looked at him—disbelief and surprise in her eyes.

His heart melted. He lowered his voice, afraid to scare her.

"Then I'll eat."

Veera held the chopsticks, picked up a noodle, and saw that he had no regrets.

She smiled and prepared to dig in.

A generous man—who wouldn't want to take him home?

Even if he wasn't good-looking, just for the food alone…

She'd hold onto Wade's leg and go with him.

In the apocalypse, she had never met such a generous man.

"Mm, sweetheart, eat up."

Wade saw her eyes fixed on the bowl like a starving wolf.

His heart ached.

She must be really hungry—her gaze had a green glint to it.

It was a bit scary.

"I don't like green onions."

Veera frowned at the green onions on top of the noodles.

Though she muttered, she still didn't plan to waste anything.

Her chopsticks quickly picked them out.

"Sweetheart, I'll remember that next time—no scallions. Pick them out and eat."

Wade carefully helped her remove all the green onions, speaking in a coaxing tone.

Veera was surprised at everything he did.

He was treating her a bit too well.

But she was too hungry to care.

She dug in eagerly.

Soon, she finished the whole bowl. Holding the bowl, she looked at Wade again.

She wasn't full.

"There's more. I'll get it."

Wade saw the pitiful look in her eyes—she clearly hadn't had enough.

He immediately brought out his own bowl and placed it in front of her.

"Thank you, Wade. You're a really good person."

Veera's eyes were sincere. This man—he was really something.

Two bowls of noodles! In the apocalypse, men like this would've been extinct.

This misunderstanding due to lack of information made her feel even more grateful.

The delicious noodles lifted her mood.

Wade watched her eat with satisfaction and chuckled:

"If that makes me a good person, then I'll feed you well for life and be a good person forever."

"Really?"

Veera's eyes widened. He actually wanted to keep feeding her forever?

"Of course. Trust your man—I can do it."

Wade smiled as he watched her expression. She looked absolutely adorable.

Veera, being laughed at, wasn't upset.

She was actually even more delighted.

In the apocalypse, noodles were luxury items.

No one would ever give them out so freely.

He said he'd feed her forever.

Just for that, she'd fight anyone who tried to take him.

If Wade knew that just two bowls of noodles had earned him her heart…

He'd probably laugh in his sleep.

"Wade, I'll treat you well."

Veera looked serious as she told him this, her beautiful eyes shining.

"No need. You're my wife. It's my job to feed you. Eat slowly—there's more if you're not full. Don't rush, drink some water."

Wade was momentarily stunned by her serious tone.

Her gaze made him a bit embarrassed, and he quickly handed her some water.

"There's more?"

Veera sipped the water, dazed.

What kind of rich treatment was this?

This man was too good—gentle, generous, and comforting.

Especially since he had food—that gave a strong sense of security.

"There is. I'll cook more."

Thinking she hadn't eaten all day, Wade rushed back to the kitchen and made another bowl.

Veera watched him hurry away and calmly continued eating, thinking:

Anyone who tried to take this man from her… only had one fate—death.

If the locked-up pet in the house knew about this odd interaction…

It would definitely rage.

After eating and drinking her fill, Veera contentedly put down her bowl and rubbed her belly.

In her twenty-something years of life, this was the first time she had truly eaten to her heart's content.

The food here was amazing.

"Wade, you're great. Being your wife is totally worth it."

Her eyes sparkled as she patted his shoulder and gave him a thumbs up.

This guy was worth sticking with—he really shared his food.

"Sweetheart, are you full? Are you okay?"

Wade looked at her familiar face and her bold movements.

His eyes fell on the three big bowls on the table.

He fell silent for a moment.

The man who feared nothing suddenly felt a little guilty.

On the second day of marriage, his wife seemed to have been starved silly.

She even talked differently now—so bold, he wasn't sure how to handle it.

"I'm full. I'm fine. I've never felt this good in my life."

Veera looked at Wade's worried face, her black eyes full of laughter.

"That's good."

The man's handsome brows finally relaxed.

This change wasn't bad—at least she talked to him now.

Before, she always avoided him and kept her head down.

He used to sneak glances at her, afraid of seeing fear in her eyes.

Now, he secretly felt lucky.

Thankfully, he had enough food at home.

Otherwise, he couldn't even keep her alive, and she might've ended up despising him.

He had never wanted to make money more badly than now.

"Wade, I think we need to visit my family tomorrow. Is there anything we need to prepare?"

She planned to treat the original owner's family well.

It was the least she could do to thank the original soul.

She wanted to make this return visit perfect, so she asked Wade for advice.

"Yeah, I already asked Li Jun to have his mom help. Got two bottles of good wine from the supply store, a silk scarf, and a radio for Ye Hui. Mom and Dad should like it."

Veera quickly went through the original memories.

This man was really generous.

She stood up and walked to Wade's side.

Her hand rested on his shoulder, her eyes shining.

She unconsciously leaned close to his arm.

The two looked very close.

With warmth and admiration, she said:

"Wade, you're amazing. Your family must be really lucky to have you."

Wade felt the soft warmth of her body against him.

His whole body tensed, muscles tightening.

He avoided her gaze, his voice hoarse and breath unsteady:

"You're my wife. Making you look good is my job."

Veera looked at him and became even happier.
