Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 leaving the job

Chapter 1

Alan Smith pressed the flush button of the toilet, washed his hands, and sighed at the ordinary-looking but slightly depressed guy in the mirror.

"Alan, Alan Smith? Where is Alan Smith?" Alan suddenly heard a feminine voice calling out his name in the office.

Alan, walking out of the bathroom, replied immediately, "I'm here." and began to walk toward his office, where a small sign was hanging on the door, "Improper use of magic."

Alan was an ordinary employee of the office of the improper use of magic in the Ministry of Magic.

A blond beauty with a stern facial expression stood there in front of the sign, and noticing Alan's arrival, she looked at him as if she wanted to scrutinize him for something before saying, "Miss Amelia wants to see you in her office."

"Alright, thank you for letting me know." Alan said with a smile, but the woman in front of him flicked her hair right in front of Alan's face and then walked away, as if his presence was insignificant.

"Alan, are you really going to quit such a good job? What are you planning to do after this?" a colleague sitting next to Alan's chair asked; probably all of his colleagues already knew that he was planning to quit his job.

Hearing the man, others raised their heads without saying anything and glanced at Alan, waiting for his response.

"Yes, that's right." Alan replied, his response was so short that his colleague didn't find heart to ask him any other follow-up questions, and the same case was about others as well, as now they got busy with their own work instead of focusing on Alan.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Alan sat back down on his chair and began to pack up his things sprawled on the desk while thinking, 'Though this job is good and safe, the opportunity I have at the moment wouldn't come again if I were to let it go.'

Though at the same time he was not sure whether he would be able to get that job successfully or not, he surely was going to try.

Alan Smith was originally an earthling who had died in a car crash and transmigrated in this world as an eleven-year-old kid, directly entering Hogwarts, and he was thankful for getting transmigrated at such a point in his life, as just a few months back his parents had died because of the ongoing wizarding war.

After studying at Hogwarts for seven years and graduating successfully, he managed to get a job and entered the Ministry of Magic; though his original intention was to become an auror, unfortunately Alan failed a small test and could only join the office he was currently a part of.

Despite working in the Ministry of Magic all these years, being an earthling, Alan had always desired to return to Hogwarts while becoming a professor so he could learn the last bit of knowledge offered by Hogwarts, and to make his dream come true, he tried to apply for the position of professor of defense against the dark arts last year. Unfortunately, before he could do so, Hogwarts—or, to be truthful, that old Dumbledore—hired that idiotic and cowardly Quirrell last year.

Hearing that name, Alan realized that the plot of this world had actually started, so instead of giving up, he continued his job in the ministry for another year, and once again wanted to apply for the same post in Hogwarts, but then he got to know that Hogwarts had announced a new course and a new professor was needed to teach that course.

Alan, realizing that chances of him being professor of defense against the dark arts were very low, decided to apply for that new post, and luckily he was called for an interview.

A few days ago, he received a reply from Dumbledore, asking him to visit Hogwarts for an interview in five days.

'If I were to get this job, it would be the second year of the plot—the Chamber of Secrets incident. The crazy snake roaming in the pipes is aimed at the muggle-born wizard, but I too am mixed blood, so rushing to get a job wouldn't be the same as seeking death?' Alan couldn't help but shake his head with the dual thoughts playing in the back of my mind; moreover, Hogwarts is going to become much more dangerous than the Ministry of Magic till the sixth year of the plot.

'But it's not like if I were to stay here I wouldn't come in harm's way, so it's better to seek danger than let the danger come seeking me.' Alan squinted slightly while thinking about all of the information that was available in his mind.

Studying at Hogwarts and then doing this job, he was slightly confident in the level of his own magic, which can be considered a good amount.

Though his progress in transfiguration and potions and subjects like that had come to a halt after he had left Hogwarts, still it was at a level where he could utilise his knowledge to fend off any enemy.

"Alright, let's go and see Amelia first." With all of his stuff stored in a box, Alan stood up from his desk and walked out of his office while ignoring the gazes of his colleagues he felt behind his back.

Amelia Bones, or his boss's boss, was director of the department of magical law enforcement, so naturally he had to walk quite a bit of distance to reach her office.

Knock… Knock…

Finally arriving in front of her office, Alan raised his hand and knocked on the office door twice. There was a clean and neat signboard hanging, showcasing that this office belonged to an important person.

"Come in." Suddenly a feminine voice came from inside, hearing which Alan pushed open the door and walked in.
