Chapter 15 - Uncovering secrets

Derek's eyes locked onto Clara's, his gaze intense. "You look familiar," he said, his voice low.

Clara's brow furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean?"

Derek gestured to an old photograph on the shelf. "I've seen your face before. In this picture."

Clara's curiosity got the better of her, and she stepped closer to examine the photograph. As she gazed at the image, her eyes widened in surprise.

"It's not me," Clara said, her voice barely above a whisper. "It's my mom."

Derek's expression turned curious. "Your mom? What is your mom's name?"

"Alison," Clara replied, her eyes still fixed on the photograph.

Derek's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with possibilities. "Alison...my father used to talk about someone with that name."

Clara's eyes snapped up to meet Derek's. "What do you mean?"

Derek hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "Let's just say my father had a complicated past. And I think your mother might be a part of it."

As they spoke, Clara's eyes wandered to the old trunks and boxes in the attic. "Let's look through these," she said, her voice filled with excitement. "Maybe we'll find some answers."

Derek nodded, and together they began to search through the boxes. They found a stack of old letters, tied with a faded ribbon.

"These might be what we're looking for," Derek said, his eyes locked on Clara's.

Clara's hands trembled as she untied the ribbon and began to read the letters. They were love letters, written between Alison and Clyde.

"My dearest Clyde," Clara read, her voice barely above a whisper. "I never thought I'd fall in love with a vampire, but here I am, head over heels for you. I know our families might not approve, but I don't care. I want to be with you, to explore this world together."

Derek's eyes met Clara's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. The letters revealed a deep and abiding love between Alison and Clyde, and Clara felt a sense of wonder.

As Clara continued to read the letters, her eyes welled up with tears. She had never known her mother had such a deep connection with Derek's father.

"My dearest Alison," Derek read over her shoulder, his voice low and husky. "I would give up everything to be with you. My immortal life, my powers, everything. Just to be with you."

Clara's heart swelled with emotion as she looked up at Derek. Their eyes met, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. The air was thick with tension, and Clara felt like she was seeing Derek for the first time.

"What happened to them?" Clara asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Derek's expression turned somber. "I don't know. My father never talked about it. But I think these letters might hold some clues."

As they continued to read the letters, Clara felt a sense of wonder. She had never imagined her mother and Derek's father would have such a deep love.

"Look at this one," Clara said, holding up a letter. "It says they're planning to run away together."

Derek's eyes sparkled with interest. "It seems like they were willing to risk everything for each other."

Clara's heart swelled with emotion. "That's true love."

As they finished reading the letters, Clara felt a sense of connection to Derek she hadn't felt before. Maybe it was the shared history between their families, or maybe it was something more.
