"Why was class today so long, at least it's break now" Dante says as him and Toyin heads to the cafeteria
They then arrive and collect their food and head to their table
"The bastard has returned to school" a boy says as he walks past Toyin and Dante's table
"The hell did you say lawrence" Toyin says
"You heard me bastard" lawrence says
"Let it be dante, it's not worth it" Toyin says
"Yeah listen to your boyfriend toyin, or I guess I'm wrong, you actually like girls, seeing as you couldn't keep your hands off my girl" Lawrence says
"I don't have anything to say to you lawrence, fuck off" Toyin says
"You like stealing girls huh, no wonder they stole your fathers life huh, serves you right bastard" Lawrence says then starts walking away
"Nah I can't let that slide" Toyin says as he stands up and Carries his tray and hits it on Lawrence's face
"You're dead now nigga" lawrence says
They then both start fighting, and Toyin is having the upper hand as he continues punching Lawrence to the point of unconsciousness
Teachers then come and seperate them
"To the principals office now Toyin adebayo" a teacher says
"Tssk" Toyin hisses
The school then call toyin's mom in to speak to her
"Mrs adebayo, this is the third suspension your son is getting, and according to school policy, he is hereby expelled" the principal says
"You can't do that, he's in his last year, can't you just pardon him, please I'm begging" Jennifer says
"I'm sorry mrs adebayo, I can't go against school policy" the principal says
They both leave the office and head to Jennifer's car, as they both enter inside
The car is dead silent throughout the journey back home
They then arrive at home where jack is waiting at the door
"What were you thinking toyin, why would you fight back knowing you already had two suspensions" jack says as he scolds toyin
"Kilode toyin, kilode, what did I do to deserve this, after all the struggle I went through to get you through school. You let me down like this" Jennifer says
"He insulted dad, I couldn't let that slide" Toyin said
"Haew toyin, let this man rest in peace, stop using him to justify your mistake" Jennifer says
"Justify my mistake?, really, justify my mistake, sorry mom not everyone can move on immediately from dads death like you did" Toyin says as he runs upstairs and bangs his room door
"Let's leave him alone for a while Jennifer, we will figure out a solution to this" jack says as he wraps his arm around Jennifer
Later that night
Toyin is walking over to his mom's room to apologize, On his way he overhears his mom talking on the phone and decides to eavesdrop
"Mami I don't know what to do again, this Toyin is giving us headache here, how would he get himself expelled in his last year, mami I'm tired" Jennifer says
Her phone is on speaker cause jack is also listening
"Bring that boy back to Nigeria, let me train and discipline him with my remaining time on this earth" mami says
"What do you mean mami" Jennifer says
"He should come here and write jamb and waec, then study in unilag, then when he's done he will come back" mami says
"Yes mami you're right, he can study engineering and when he's done, I will get him a job at the company" jack says
"I'm not so sure about this jack, he is still my boy" Jennifer says
"He needs this, he needs to go back to his roots, so he will learn values" jack says
"I guess you're right, ok mami he will come to Nigeria" Jennifer says
"Good, break the news to him, and tell me when he will be coming, let me get the school preparations ready"
"They wanna send me away" Toyin says in shock
He then trips over and fall on his behind, which jack and Jennifer hear and then comes to their door and sees Toyin running out of the house
"Jack go after him" Jennifer says
"No, let's give him some space to process the news, he will come back"
Toyin then gets on his bicycle and starts riding down the street crying
"I didn't meant to fuck shit up , I didn't mean to" Toyin screams at the top of his lungs
He then arrives at a house and starts throwing rocks at a girls window
"Toyin, what are you doing here by this time" a girl says as she looks through her window
"I need to talk to you naika" Toyin says
"They're really sending you back to Nigeria, dang that's messed up" naika says
"Yeah, it isn't their fault tho, I shouldn't have swinged at Lawrence" toyin says
"No it's mine, if me and you didn't get together, Lawrence wouldn't have any reason to hate you" naika says
"Don't say that, we both know Lawrence didn't deserve you" Toyin says
"Look Toyin, I don't care if you're going to Nigeria for a long time, I will be here waiting for you to come back okay" naika says
"So go back to your mom Toyin, if she says you should go back to Nigeria, it's probably for the best" naika says
"So you're chasing me, is that how it is" toyin says
"Maybe I am" naika says
They both start laughing
Toyin then goes back home and heads to his moms room
"My son you're back, don't wander off like that again" Jennifer says
"Jack, mom I'm ok with your decision" Toyin says
"Are you serious" jack says
"Yeah I am, if grandma thinks that's what best, then it probably is, so whenever you guys are ready for me to go, tell me" Toyin says as he walks back to his room
"He actually agreed" jack says
"Is this the same Toyin that left this house"
Toyin then gets a knock at his door
As he opens it, he sees it's his little sister bisi
"Heard you're getting deported to nigeria" bisi says
"I'm not getting deported you retard" Toyin says
"Who are you calling a retard, you imbecile" bisi says
"At least you won't be here to be in the toilet for 600 days"
"As if you won't miss that" Toyin says
"I actually might big bro, I actually might" bisi says as she walks out of his room
Three weeks pass
"I guess this is goodbye huh, don't do anything I would do bisi" Toyin says with tears in his eyes
"I'm sure I won't" bisi says as she goes over to hug him
"Big bro, I'll miss you" Adeola says as she goes over to hug him too
"Ok let's go" jack says
Toyin then enters the car and it drives off
Him and jack then reach the airport, after a while toyin's flight is ready to leave
"Hey kid, be safe" jack says as he hugs Toyin
"Yeah" Toyin says as he boards his plane
The plane then takes off
"I'm actually headed to Nigeria huh, I guess it might not be that bad" Toyin says as he then puts on his headphones
9 hours and 59 minutes later
Toyin lands in Nigeria and leaves the airport, he is then greeted by a driver
"Are you my driver" Toyin says as he puts his head through the window
"I sure am, get in" the driver says
Toyin then enters the car and they drive off
"What brings you to our country foreigner" the driver says
"Well you can say, I want to know my roots better" Toyin says
"Don't worry you go enjoy am" the driver says
"I hope so" Toyin says as he looks towards the window
They then arrive at toyin's grandmas house
"Woah" Toyin says in shock
As he sees a huge vintage looking mansion
Toyin then comes down from the car, as he does he sees an elderly woman and a young girl standing next to her
"My boyyyy" the elderly woman says as she goes over to hug Toyin
"Good afternoon mami" Toyin says
"Come inside my boy"
" Vivian bring in his bags" mami says
"Tssk" Vivian hisses as she looks at Toyin
Toyin, vivian and mami then enters inside
"My boy go and freshen up, when you're done come downstairs and eat"
"Vivian show him to his room" mami says
Vivian then shows Toyin to his room, both then enter inside
She then closes the door behind her
"You know you're a fool" Vivian says
"The hell did you say" Toyin says
"Many people here are dying to go abroad, while you you're bringing yourself back" Vivian says
"You're talking like it's my fault" Toyin says
"I don't even care, don't just disturb me while you're here and we're good" Vivian says as she leaves his room
"Whats her deal" Toyin says as he lies down on his bed
He then freshens up and goes downstairs
"Ehen Toyin come and set the table" mami says
"Okay ma" Toyin says as he heads towards the kitchen and carry's the plates to the table
He then sets each plate to the seat they're supposed to be
"Four plates huh, I thought we were only three here,Is there someone I didn't see
They all then sit round the table and Vivian shared the food to the four plates
They then pray for the food and start eating
"Mami why is there a fourth plate, when we're only three" Toyin says
"Must you ask everything, cho Cho Cho, can't you just eat" vivian says
"Oh my God, was I talking to you" Toyin says
"The plate is there to represent Vivian's brothers who we lost too early to the hands of death, he's still here with us in our hearts, and we set that plate with food to please his spirit that abides here" mami says
"I know you Americans don't have a sense of culture or belief, but yeah now you know" Vivian says as she gives him a death stare
"Ok ok I get it, sorry for being so insensitive" Toyin says
"It's ok my son now eat, before the food gets cold" mami says
"So I'm really here now, woah still feels weird"
"Maybe Dante was right, I should have just let it go"
"I just left naika and all my friends behind"
"I'm such a fool"
Toyin says as he cries
THE NEXT MORNING
"Toyin get ready, we're going to the school" mami shouts from upstairs
"School?..huh" Toyin says as he's confused
After a while Toyin comes down and see mami dressed in a green traditional with jewelry's
"Mamiiii what's the occasion" Toyin says
"I told you we're going to the school to get you enrolled" mami says as she smiles at him
"Oh Yh totally forgot about that, but how does that correlate to this overdressing" Toyin says
"Overdressing?..no no toyin it seems you don't know anything about first impressions, either way we're late let's go"
They both then enter the car and head over to to the school
"Is this the boy" a woman uses her eye to examine Toyin up and down
"Yes this is toyin, I would like him to write waec in your school principal Ada" mami says
"Woah that's the most intense stare down I've ever witnessed" Toyin says in his mind
"Him writing in our school isn't an issue, but he will not write with those dreads on his head" principal Ada says
"Is the dreads really an issue Ada" mami says as she passes something towards her
"It's not actually, as long as he behaves himself I'm sure we can allow it, and I'm sure the examiners will agree too" principal Ada says
"That's what I like to hear" mami says
Her and Toyin then leave the school premises and heads towards the car
"I guess it's true what mom used to say, money does speak in Nigeria" Toyin says
"Mami good evening, how was your day" Vivian says as she bows
"It was fine ohh, I just went to finalize toyin's school stuffs and pick up school uniform" mami said as she sits on the sofa
"Vivian put on the tv let's see if we can still catch anupama"
"Ok mami" Vivian says as she puts on the tv
Her and Mami then begin to watch
"I guess it wouldn't hurt, to see what they enjoy watching" Toyin says as he sits down
Mami and Vivian then stare at him
"What did I do" Toyin says awkwardly
"My friend will you go upstairs and start reading for your waec"
"See this boy oooo, doing my time I wasn't watching tv at all"
"Come on go upstairs"
Banter from left and right comes towards Toyin
"Jesus I'm going, I'm going" Toyin says as he heads upstairs
Mami and vivian then start laughing
"Doing my time I wasn't watching tv at all" Toyin says as he mocks Vivian
He then opens up his biology and starts to read
"Urghhhhh I already know all of this" Toyin says
I'll just head to bed early, let me not deceive myself that I'll read
"So I'm starting school tomorrow huh, I wonder how that will pan out"
He then heads to bed
