The other two patients agreed upon hearing this; they figured that if Bighead Carlisle just moved to another room, he wouldn't disturb them anymore. So, one of them added, "Exactly, exactly, the young folks these days just don't understand the hardships of the elderly. You'll grow old too one day, and when that time comes, you'll regret how you've treated your parents now."
Another one, using fancier language, chimed in, "Yes, girl, remember 'We wish to support our parents, but they may not be there to receive our care.'"
As Ave Carlisle listened to the unanimous voices sympathizing with her father, she naturally understood their intentions; she also knew they were annoyed by her father and wanted to drive him away.
