Chapter 4 - Tears of Green

A/N: The "..." are some sort of breaks as to symbol the change of possessive adjective. Meaning the usage of "your" or "I" changes. "Your" being used in the more intimate moment(s)

Synopsis: You have just seen your crush with another person. A feeling of jealousy and irritation fills you. (The crush was not Kaeya.)

You had just seen your crush with another person. You don't usually get jealous about such things, but it was obvious that something was going on with them.

You had little time to think this over by yourself because of training with The Knights of Favonious.

You're in a Mondstadt forest, slashing and swinging your sword at your training partner. You swing your sword at him, your anger becoming more and more visible.

...

"Hey, it's just training. I'm your ally, not your enemy. You're not trying to kill me, ya know." Kaeya chuckles as he barely dodges my attacks.

"Training or not. It should always be done with the intent to kill. Knight lessons 101, right?" I retorted. Kaeya smirks and unhands my sword in one quick move. My legs give out and I fall to my knees, panting.

"Take a breather, you need it." Kaeya puts his sword away and strolls over to my fallen sword, taking it by the hilt. "You alright, y/n?" Kaeya pulls me out of my thoughts, I nod in response.

"I'm fine. Give me my sword." I attempted to get up, but it felt as though multiple weights were holding me down. Before I could try again, Kaeya offers me my sword point down. I take the sword, gazing at it silently.

"I'm gonna be over at the River." Kaeya motions his head to where he's going. When I don't respond, he leaves.

I sat there for a few silent minutes, gazing at the sky and clouds. Thinking back to just a couple hours before, remembering how my crush and that other person were getting along. How they smiled at each other, the way they looked... Were the moments we spent together meaningless? The long nights we spent just talking, all of the letter exchanges... I eventually sigh deeply and stand up, making my way over to the river. There I see Kaeya, he's throwing a rock at the water, stone skipping.

"Finally ready to join me I see." Kaeya laughs, he doesn't even look my way.  I don't go over to his side, instead, my eyes wander, stopping on a small group of hilichurls. In response to my silence, Kaeya glances to me, then following my gaze. "Are you still wanting to let off some steam? Why don't you go over there. You can handle it, right?"

"Maybe I will..." My grip on my sword tightens, and I took a deep breath before going over to the hilichurl group. Kaeya stops what he was doing to watch me.

It takes me around 5 minutes to fully finish the monsters off. When I come back over to Kaeya, I expected him to do as he usually does, which was to clap his hands with amusement. But instead, he comes up to me with a soft smile and puts a hand to my cheek. I had got a small cut from something one of the hilichurl's threw. I'm obviously surprised as he runs his thumb along near the cut, and a soft blush spreads across my cheeks.

"Kaeya..?" He only shakes his head lightly, and his gentleness causes me to go silent.

...

"It seems so small, but the one who does not feel it can never be sure. Does it not hurt?" He asked, holding your cheek to his hand.

"...It hurts." You respond, and your eyes begin to water. "It hurts so much..." It doesn't seem like you're referring to the cut at all, rather something thats been plaguing your mind.

"Maybe it doesn't seem like it... but it'll stop hurting, just like every other cut you've had. The cut is so light, it'll eventually fade, not even leaving a scar." He smiles and his thumb gently caresses near the cut, as if soothing it. "I won't say that you shouldn't cry over something so little. You can cry over it all you want, but your tears will eventually make it sting more. So, you decide whether it's worth it or not."
