Cocooned under Zalreth's wings, the flames didn't touch Vinn and Xander. But some of the villagers weren't spared the burning fate as most of them ignited.
Wordlessly, Vinn scrambled up to to Zalreth's back. Her wings had been scorched a bit, but it could have been worse than that if they hadn't taken cover on time.
"Are you okay? Your wings…." She voiced hesitantly in the face of the chaos while her eyes roamed to assess the damage that had been done.
"Its simply burnt a bit not amputated," Zalreth answered with a scoff, "I am fine."
From the high vantage view, she watched Sparrow, the Village Head, who was still laughing maniacally while the alien dragon landed close to him, crushing some poor villagers in the wake. Vinn was shaken to the core by the cruelty of it all, and she realized quite belatedly that the Village Head was ordinary man.
He was in fact, the rider of the dragon.
