Jessica stepped out of the cab and smoothed her dress, taking a deep breath. The afternoon sun was hot and the air carried the scent of grilled meat from the restaurant.
She barely had time to gather her thoughts when she spotted Damon stepping out of his car. A small smile played on her lips at the sight of him, tall, handsome and confident as he approached.
"Why didn't you take one of my cars?" he asked, his eyes scanning her face as he stopped in front of her and brushed his lips over hers.
Jessica shook her head. "That would send the wrong message to the staff."
Damon exhaled, shaking his head with a half-smile. "You're always worried about what people think."
"I have to be," she said softly, her eyes meeting his. "Not just for me, but for you too," she asked and his expression flickered, but he didn't argue.
"Why are you out here? Did you just arrive?" She asked curiously.
"No. I got here about ten minutes ago, I think," he said, checking his watch.
