Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

The music pulsed, reverberating not just through the club, but through me. Harley and Ginny's energy was infectious, pulling me into the swirling kaleidoscope of bodies and flashing lights. Kristy, ever the grounded one, stayed close, her eyes occasionally scanning the crowd, a silent promise of protection shimmering in their hazel depths.

Despite the laughter and the carefree façade, the weight of my secret pressed down. Was he here? Watching? The thought sent a shiver down my spine, a cold prickle against the warmth of the dance floor. I risked a quick glance around, trying to discern a hidden face, a lingering gaze. But the club was a labyrinth of movement, a sea of anonymity.

"You okay?" Kristy yelled over the music, her hand finding mine.

I forced a smile. "Just… trying to relax."

But relaxation felt like a distant dream. Every shadow seemed to deepen, every unfamiliar face a potential threat. I wanted to enjoy this night, to bask in the normalcy of friendship, but the feeling of being watched was a persistent hum beneath the surface, a discordant note in the symphony of the evening.

Later, as the night wound down, we retreated to a quieter corner, sinking into plush velvet couches. Harley, ever the drama queen, was recounting a particularly outrageous encounter with a flirtatious prince, embellishing the story with flamboyant gestures and dramatic pauses. Ginny, blushing prettily, giggled at Harley's antics.

I should have been laughing with them, joining in the lighthearted banter. But my mind was elsewhere, replaying the unsettling events of the past weeks. The roses… the journal… the feeling of being known, yet utterly unseen.

"Earth to Isabella!" Harley snapped her fingers in front of my face. "You're miles away. What's got you so preoccupied?"

I hesitated. Sharing my secret had felt like a tremendous weight lifted, but still, a part of me wanted to keep it locked away, a dark secret hidden from the light.

"It's nothing, really," I mumbled, avoiding her gaze. "Just… kingdom stuff."

Harley narrowed her eyes, a flicker of suspicion in their depths. "Kingdom stuff doesn't make you look like you've seen a ghost. Spill it."

I sighed, knowing that I couldn't keep it from them forever. Taking a deep breath, I repeated the story, recounting the details with a newfound clarity, now that I had spoken them aloud.

This time, the levity was gone. Harley's playful expression hardened into a frown. Ginny's shy demeanor shifted, a protective fire igniting in her eyes.

"This is serious, Isabella," Harley said, her voice devoid of its usual theatrics. "This isn't some harmless infatuation. This is… creepy."

"We need to do something," Ginny added, her voice barely above a whisper. "You can't just let this person keep invading your life."

Kristy nodded, her expression grim. "We need to involve Wilson," she said firmly. "He's the best. He'll know what to do."

Involving him meant acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, admitting that I couldn't handle it on my own.

But they were right. I couldn't.

"Okay," I said, my voice trembling slightly. "I'll talk to Wilson tomorrow."

As I spoke those words, a strange sensation washed over me. A feeling of relief, yes, but also a prickle of something else… something akin to anticipation. It was a disturbing undercurrent, a flicker of curiosity that I couldn't quite suppress. Was this… fascination? Attraction? The thought horrified me. How could I be even remotely intrigued by someone who was essentially stalking me?
