NICHOLAS POV
Nicholas stared at his phone long after the call ended, her words still ringing in his ears.
He rubbed a hand over his face, exhaling slowly as he walked over to the window. The city lights blinked below him, but all he could see was Ethan's smile. That kid ,his kid had sounded so happy just hearing his voice. It did something to him. Something he hadn't felt in a long time.
He knew he hadn't been the best. He knew he'd screwed up more times than he could count. Disappearing. Showing up late. Making promises he wasn't always sure he could keep. But he was trying in his own, messy way to fix that. He wasn't asking for a medal. He just wanted to be part of his son's life.
Nicholas sat down, elbows on his knees, phone still clutched in his hand. Amber didn't believe in him anymore maybe she never really had. And honestly, he couldn't blame her. He'd given her every reason to doubt. But this time felt different. He wanted it to be different.
