Hazel was in deep thoughts, she was sitting in the bedroom thinking about her shitty married life and all when she heard the late-night call came and insistent buzz on Hazel's phone.
The digital display flickered, illuminating Wren's name in the dimly lighted room. Hazel, half-asleep, reached for the phone, a flutter of anticipation in her chest.
Today was the worst day of her life and Wren's call reminded her that she had a friend that she could rely on, as she watched the name on the screen a smile slowly widened.
"Hello?" she murmured, her voice thick with sleep.
"Hazel?" Wren's voice was soft, a gentle whisper that seemed to fill the room. "I'm sorry to call so late, but I couldn't sleep."
Hazel sat up, her mind clearing. "It's okay, dear," she said, her voice laced with concern. "Is everything alright?" Hearing the word dear coming from her Wren's lip unexpected formed a smirk.
