Bree looked like she'd seen a ghost. "Are you okay? Do you have a fever or something? Blink twice if someone's blackmailing you!"
Amanda didn't respond. She stood rooted to the spot, staring at a random scuff mark on the linoleum and wishing it would swallow her whole.
Olivia was blinking as if she couldn't believe what she'd just heard. "What did you say?"
Amanda sighed, the sound heavy with frustration and humiliation. Her voice came out louder this time, but no less strained. "I said I'm sorry."
The second time, it hit harder.
Bree and Jenna's mouths popped open again, their heads whipping toward Amanda like synchronized owls. She stood stiffly, hands clenched by her sides, her shoulders tensed like she wanted to disappear. This couldn't be real. Amanda? Apologizing? The world might as well be ending.
"Is this about Oliver?" Jenna whispered, leaning toward Bree, eyes wide with disbelief. Is Amanda really that desperate to get on Olivia's good side? she thought.
