The penalty save had cracked the tension—but not broken it. Brugge still buzzed with threat, still played higher than they should have. And now, for the first time in nearly ten minutes, Bradford remembered how to breathe.
Ibáñez was the first to reset the rhythm—body angled low, sweeping passes across the pitch like he was tuning an old instrument. Vélez responded in kind, dropping deeper, recycling instead of chasing. Roney touched twice, then three times. Slower. Smarter.
Then came the release.
Chapman drifted inside off the pocket, pulled Jashari with him, then pivoted cleanly and fired a quick ball through the lines. Vélez met it on the half-turn and spotted the runner.
Silva.
He was already gone.
Timing perfect. The ball was weighted—a skipping, slicing thing that darted just inside the channel between Mechele and Seys.
Silva caught it in stride.
