Chapter 7 - A True Stormchaser

Over the next few months I learned a lot, I improved my channeling of course, but I also learned about the world, the things that made it, the nations within it, the plants and animals that inhabited it. Some days Roshar took me to the fencing grounds and taught me to fight with many different weapons, I used swords, axes, halberds, bows, but my favorite weapon was the spear, I practiced with the servants, as most of the scholars either didn't like using weapons or were to old to do it effectively.

One day, while a lightning storm raged outside, Roshar came directly to me instead of sending a servant as he usually did.

"I believe you are ready, son."

"Ready for what, master?"

"Ready to channel the lightning directly, today I'll teach you to shape and mold the lightning to your will."

He took me to a place I hadn't seen yet, It was a large room with only three walls, but still guarded from the elements, Roshar told me this place allowed Stormchasers to practice channeling during storms without danger, since even tough our powers grew stronger during them, and we could divert the lightning as to not harm us, the rain and wind were still dangerous on their own.

"Channeling outward is not very different from channeling inward." Said Roshar. "But it is harder to master"

I remained quiet.

"When you channel lightning, you have to pull it's essence within you, and then use it, If you use it inside your body you can increase your speed, as you already know, but you can also release it, letting go of the power and channeling it outward, allowing you to throw or divert bolts of lightning. However, keep one thing in mind, the human body is not made to endure the prolonged effects for long, If you gather the essence but don't use it for too long, I might force it's way out of your body, with no concern for your safety or for that of those around you, so be very careful while using it."

He showed me the proper technique, and I started practicing, at first I couldn't get more than a few sparks to launch out of my fingers, but after a few attempts, I managed to throw a bolt of lightning at a nearby rock.

"Apart from channeling the lightning from within you, you must also learn to divert the lighting already moving, I'll throw a bolt at that rock, your objective is for it change paths and hit that one over there."

My first few attempts I wasn't even able to change it's direction, but after a few tries I was able to divert it, and soon I was able to direct it where Roshar had asked, I felt proud of myself, now, I was an actual Stormchaser, I could channel lightning in both it's forms, but I still had much to learn here, I wanted to learn everything I could.
