Van and Jay shared a breakfast together. Jay refused to let Van feed him so they only had sandwiches so that he could use his left hand. Van left after breakfast because of work. He deeply regrets that he can't stay at home and be together with Jay. but he did tell Jay to look around the house premises, buy some food outside if he wants.
It's the doctor's order to let Jay have his daily walk to jog his memory. Van gave Jay a cellphone so if he needs Van to pick him up, he can call him. The cellphone is brand new even the contact only has Van. His old phone might got broken during the accident. Thankfully, Jay remembers how to operate a phone.
In Jay's thought, he's more curious to explore what's outside than what's inside their house. He can naturally explore the house just by living there but the outside could have different possibilities that could happen.
As soon as he stepped outside their gate, he looked left and right. He chose the direction by gut. Left. It's a quiet residential area. People are rarely outside their house. It's rare for someone to walk outside they are all in a car.
Jay decided to go further. His feet landed on a busy street. It's a commercial area. There are a lot of variants of shops, cafe, restaurants and others. There are a lot of people but no one seems to recognize him.
A sudden presence then passed by him from behind. The man is walking faster than the others. Jay has no idea why but he seems drawn to the man. He instinctively followed him.
They went inside a small hospital. It's a different one from where Jay was admitted. He went to the reception area and was given a room number. Before he enters, the man noticed Jay's presence. Jay was standing a few inches away from him and staring at him.
"May I help you?" The man asked. "Are you a patient here?" He asked as he saw Jay's cast.
"Ah... I was just curious about the bouquet of flowers you were holding. I was wondering who will you give it to. " The flowers are black with gradient of violet. Jay's eyes are sparkling looking at it. " I didn't mean to follow you all the way here, its just they are beautiful."
The man smiled looking at the flowers he was holding. He then smiled at Jay.
"Would you like to go inside with me? I bet my friend would like to meet another fan of these flowers." The man opened the door and gestured Jay to come in first. The man's friend is currently sleeping. The man arranged the flowers on the vase at the patient's side table.
" My name is Ethan. What's yours?"
"Jay."
"Jay, my friend here is Daniel. These flowers are his favorite and since you said they're beautiful, I know you'll get along."
With the sunrays coming from the window, Ethan's flower arranging somehow became a show. He's smiling beautifully at the flowers while gracefully touching them. Jay became captivated.
"I want to know what's your reason for falling in love at first sight?" Ethan asked. Jay's eyes widened and he blinked hurriedly. He's confused and flustered at Jay's question. He interpreted the question as himself falling for Ethan at first sight. "This is your first time seeing these flowers but you followed it upto here"
"Oh. Flowers are known to be colorful but this one is black which makes it unique. Then as you look at it, you'll see the violent gradient on it. It reminded of the night sky."
Ethan's ears perked up with Jay's statement. He looked at Jay with interest and continued to listen.
"The night sky can be seen as something dark but...."
"....if you look a little longer, you'll see the hidden beauty in it." Ethan and Jay said simultaneously. Ethan smiled in amusement. Jay was shocked how they said the exact same thing, word per word. He thought Ethan and himself hit it off just a few hours after meeting.
Ethan then directed his gaze at his friend, Daniel. "You might not believe it, but Daniel said the exact same thing." Jay somehow became disappointed. He doesn't really get why but when Ethan's attention turn to Daniel he's getting a bit of bitter feeling.
" What's the flower called?"
"Black Viola Pansy. In the flower language it represents a special moment or remembrance."
Jay stared at the pansies thinking about it's meaning. Seeing a flower that represents memory while he has amnesia. He thought that maybe that's the reason he became drawn to the flowers.
He didn't notice but tears started to flow down. Ethan saw and offered Jay a tissue.
Ethan just smiled again but this time with longing in his eyes. Jay noticed yet again that the gaze was directed to Daniel who was sleeping.
" You're the second person I know who cried because of the black pansy." Ethan stated. And Jay hearing this, somehow made him feel something similar to jealousy. As he thought that the first one, for sure, is Daniel.
These thoughts and feelings are making Jay confused. Not only because, it is his first encounter with Ethan. He has Van. He's already in a relationship so he shouldn't be feeling any of this right now.
"I remembered I have something to do. I'll take my leave." Jay said to escape.
"Wait! Why don't you bring the flowers with you as a thank you for letting us meet another black pansy fan."
"I shouldn't. Daniel will be sad to wake up with no flowers." Honestly, Jay wanted to take it. The reason is not only because he finds it beautiful, but because he wants it as a commemorative. This could be the last time he'll see Ethan and he wants something to remember him with.
" I'll just bring him a new one. Besides, by the time Daniel wakes up, the flowers will be withered anyway."
"What do you mean?"
"Daniel is in a coma. For atleast a week. He got in a car accident." Jay should feel sympathy for Daniel but felt annoyance instead. He doesn't like the fact that their similarities increased. "How about you? What happened?" Ethan pointed at his right arm."
"It' just a sprain." Jay lied. "Well. I'll be taking my leave now. "
"Wait! " Ethan approached Jay. With a single pansy on his hand, he brushed Jay's hair and tucked it onto his ear. "At least keep one."
Ethan might have not noticed but both of them are drawn to each other. For Ethan, its because Jay resembles Daniel but not physically.
Jay decided to keep the flower on his ear. As soon as he stepped outside the room, he carefully took off the pansy and handled it gently.
"To a special moment I had today." Jay rose the flower as if he's toasting. "Good bye." He whispered as he glanced one last look on the door.
