Chapter 13 - Questions

My mind reacts quickly, with a single thought a large part of the primordial energy of the enraged existences leaves their bodies.

In just a moment, each of the angry existences not far away falls to their knees.

They let out a slight murmur of surprise as their eyes finally focus on me.

The woman who appears to be the leader watches me with wide eyes and surprise written all over her face.

"Sir... you are back," she murmurs in disbelief, a moment later she swallows saliva in fear as a smile adorns her beautiful face and her bright eyes look like it's on the verge of tears.

The woman moans for a moment, makes some noises with her mouth that seem to be a mixture of laughter and gasps before smiling widely

"The lord has returned!!!", the woman's loud cry is heard, a moment later the various existences not far from her watch me, there was a slight confusion in them for a moment before they all smile.

"The lord has returned!!!"

"The lord has returned!!!"

A moment later and after restoring the primordial energy to these existences I found out what happened here.

Inhabitants of the terrarium itself, however, they fulfill a slightly more complicated function in this place, they feed the magic of the terrarium and are able to create this so called primordial energy through rituals.

Regarding their relationship with the girl next to me, they say there was a problem, but we didn't go into detail. However, they assured me that if I forgave her, then they wouldn't have to kill her, so I simply made a symbolic gesture to grant her my forgiveness.

Which was strange because I don't know what mistake she made.

...

"What did you say the name of your race was?", I ask the small woman who always stood behind me.

"We are... humans, Dear sir....", I smile slightly at the girl's answer, by the way, she told me her name, it's Any.

Any smiles slightly as she hugs my right arm and we walk back to her little village, behind us, several "humans follow us", they are happy, I can feel it.

"Dear sir, Why do you ask that?" Any murmurs with confusion, she watches me with her bright light eyes and pursed lips before asking, "Why did you name our race that way?", again her question confounds me.

Somehow these people think I am some kind of god who has been taking care of them for a long time, especially Any who has been bothering me for a moment now with something about "keeping a promise", a promise I supposedly made in the past.

The village of these people is nice, large wall of giant stakes surrounds several buildings that serve as dwellings.

These "houses" are made of a kind of shiny material that resembles thick threads, and have decorations on each of the walls of these huts.

At the center of the small village are nailed several stakes not very big, at the tip of these stakes are bright green skulls arranged in a pattern that I do not know.

Arriving at this place with Any I can't help but feel a little intrigued and fascinated, there is not even a trace of fear within me at the sight of what are probably skulls of people who once existed.

"What is this place for?", I ask while observing the patterns on the ground, a giant circle of at least four meters in diameter that carries in its interior some patterns I had never seen before, all made with green paint that glows with light intensity...

"Don't you remember?" she asks as she looks at me curiously, "Do you recognize it?, this is the most important place in Tazy, we call it 'Champions Rest'." Any smiles as she looks lovingly at the skulls on top of stakes at the center of the drawing painted on the ground.

"This is where we can create primordial energy, the skulls truly once belonged to former village chiefs, and the soul of each of them rests on the stakes," Any smiles.

"Thanks to the spell you teach us, every year we can activate the 'champions' Rest' to create primordial energy," Any's explanation leaves me with more questions than answers, still I simply observe this place that looks more like something a satanic sect would do for a moment before simply smiling.

"Dear Sir, you...", I stop Any's words by placing a hand on her head, "My name is Ferr, call me Lord Ferr," I smile in Any's direction after speaking.

She smiles back, her body seems to tremble with joy before she licks her lips, "Lord Ferr, I like the way you sound," Any smiles.

"About your mother...", I narrow my eyes, pulling my hand away from Any's head, her smile is immediately extinguished and an expression of sorrow and anger appears on her face.

She mutters something I can't understand before turning away.

"Can you follow me?" Any ask, I nod and go after her.

We walk out of the village, this time we walk to a small cave not far from the village.

Inside the cave is a small cross made of two wooden sticks tied together with something like a green vine.

That wooden cross is nailed to a small hill of earth that seems to have been worked a short time ago.

Using the primordial energy of my surroundings I can easily detect a decomposing body a few meters deep, it should be Any's mother.

"She believed in me to the end...", Any suddenly murmurs, she kneels down and caresses the small cross stuck in the ground.

"I told her I could talk to someone through my thoughts, I mean, it started one day when I was in the forest on the surface, at first just a name popped into my head, your name, Lord Ferr," Any said.

"I thought I was crazy so I tried to tell you something, but you didn't respond, then, I asked my mom about what I could do, and she told me about your legend," Any begins to sob lightly as she lies down on top of the small mound of dirt.

Any looks at me, her gaze transmitting more than one feeling that overwhelms her at this moment, she tries to smile but it seems to be impossible, "Lord Ferr, you, my mother was a devout believer of yours," she caresses the surface of the mound of earth with the palm of her hand.

"Lord Ferr, my mother didn't commit suicide, she is innocent, you know it, then... Why does she have to be here away from the village?, Why can't she belong to the Champions' Rest?", Any curls up on top of the pile of dirt, struggling not to cry.

I... I don't understand, this whole thing about me being in this world is strange, I've never been here before but it seems like the people here know me or relate me to some god.

"My mother didn't commit suicide..." Any murmurs between sobs.

A moment later, Any begins to hum a light song between sobs, her voice with slight high tones hums a small song that reminds of a deep forest, it gives a slight sense of peace and carries with it a trace of hope.

Half of Any's face is stained by the shroud as she hugs a pile of earth and the cross, her humming and weeping echoes in the small cave making the atmosphere melancholic.

A slight sense of guilt piercing my heart slightly, Why?, I'm not the god she think I am, but still, I think... If I had been able to come into this world earlier, could I have prevented Any's mother's death?

I don't know.

I bend down slightly and gently touch Any's shoulder, she feels my touch, her sobs stop suddenly, she swallows, her body shakes for a moment before she looks at me

Any's slightly defiant and questioning gaze takes me by surprise, I open my eyes and my body feels a slight shiver as I look into this girl's eyes.

Her light eyes are glowing with a slight green hue, and as time goes by her irises are disappearing, it's as if it are slowly being erased.

"Lord Ferr, Why did you make us able to feel pain?, Why does evil exist?, Why do we have to die?, Why do we feel hungry, Why did you create the world?" she asks in a deep voice that does not carry the feminine tone she used to have.

Her eyes don't leave mine, and the more she looks at me, the more I can feel that she can see straight into my soul.

"You said you loved us, that we are your perfect creations, so, Why do we have to suffer?" she asks, raising the pitch of her voice a little, it's almost as if she is demanding an answer.

We make eye contact for a few moments, in less than a minute her pupils have almost disappeared from her eyes that glow with an intense green hue.

To say I don't know would be the correct answer, after all, I am not god, however, I think she is looking for something beyond an answer to her questions.

I smile slightly and rub her shoulder warmly, "Because it's part of life, life is not perfect, still, you are here, that's a miracle, and if you are here, then, you need to learn everything about life..." I smile at the end of my words, actually that's a phrase I read in a book, I don't remember which one.

As I gently rub Any's shoulder, she opens her mouth in surprise, then a small smile appears on her face, her bright green eyes begin to lose their sparkle and her pupils begin to return to normal.

Before I can do or say anything, Any pounces on me hugging me with such a force that I could deform iron with just her embrace.

However, what strikes me most is not the strength with which she embraces me, but the effort she makes with her limbs to cling to me, her hands tightly gripping my clothes and her legs wrapped around my spine.

I can feel her heart beating despite her big breasts pressing against my chest, and the warmth on my neck caused by her tears falling down her cheeks to touch my skin.

Her crying makes my ears feel overwhelmed, but, my heart feels soothed for some reason, and then, I can simply hug her while she cries inconsolably.
