Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: A Wolf Among Sheep

---

Gotham City – Batcave Briefing

The massive Batcomputer flickered, displaying everything the League had gathered on Avon Von Deovola. Satellite images, footage from the Cadmus breakout, and calculations of his potential strength scrolled across the screen.

Batman stood motionless, eyes fixed on the data.

A low growl rumbled from his throat.

Nightwing, standing nearby, sighed. "You know, Bats, some actual words would help."

Batman didn't answer. Instead, he tapped the keyboard, bringing up footage from Superman's battle with Avon. The werewolf had matched Kryptonian strength—if only for a moment.

Flash leaned against the Batcomputer. "So, we're all pretending that wolf boy caught a full-strength Superman punch and just… walked it off?"

Another growl.

Nightwing crossed his arms. "I'm starting to think you two are actually communicating."

Batman ignored them. He had contingencies to prepare.

---

Metropolis – Avon's First Hunt

The city was noisy.

Bright, artificial, alive with electricity and movement. It smelled of metal and pollution, a place where wolves had no place.

Avon stalked through the city, his senses adjusting. He had spent a century in isolation, his body frozen in time by Cadmus' containment. And now—he was free.

Yet, there was something… missing.

His instincts screamed for a pack.

Not just followers. Equals. Warriors.

That was when he caught a scent—something familiar. Someone who hunted like him.

His golden-red eyes narrowed.

Time to meet them.

---

Elsewhere in Metropolis – The Huntress' Prey

Helena Bertinelli crouched on a rooftop, crossbow aimed at a known arms dealer.

He had ties to Intergang, trafficking illegal weapons through Gotham and Metropolis. She had tracked him for weeks.

Tonight, she would end it.

She took aim—

Then stiffened.

A presence was behind her.

She turned sharply, crossbow locked on the towering figure standing in the shadows.

Golden-red eyes met hers.

A deep, rumbling voice. "You hunt."

She tightened her grip. "And you stalk hunters."

Avon chuckled. "I'm simply observing." He stepped forward, his massive frame moving with eerie grace. "I am searching for warriors. You might do."

Huntress narrowed her eyes. "For what?"

Avon's gaze flickered toward the city. "A pack."

Watchtower – Justice League Debate

Superman floated in front of the League, arms crossed, watching footage of Avon.

He smiled. "Well, at least he's not trying to destroy the world."

Green Lantern snorted. "Yet."

Batman let out a low growl.

Flash groaned. "Seriously, dude? Full sentences. We talked about this."

Wonder Woman smirked. "He's saying we should be cautious."

Superman chuckled. "Of course he is."

Batman tapped a few keys, zooming in on a map of Avon's recent sightings.

He was moving through Metropolis, Gotham, and Blüdhaven.

Not randomly.

Wonder Woman frowned. "He's tracking people."

Superman raised an eyebrow. "Then we should find out why."

Batman's growl was agreement.

---

Gotham – A Confrontation in the Dark

Avon leaped across the rooftops, reveling in the freedom of movement. The city's scent changed suddenly—

Danger.

He halted just in time for a batarang to land at his feet.

His ears twitched. Not an attack. A warning.

From the shadows, two figures emerged.

Nightwing and Batman.

Avon grinned. "Took you long enough."

Batman let out a low growl.

Nightwing sighed. "Right. I'll translate. 'What are you doing in my city?'"

Avon chuckled. "Hunting."

Batman's eyes narrowed.

Avon smirked. "For allies, not prey."

Nightwing crossed his arms. "And why exactly should we believe that?"

Avon's golden-red eyes glowed. "Because if I were hunting you, you wouldn't have seen me coming."

A tense silence.

Batman's cape shifted. A challenge.

Avon grinned.

Then—

Batman moved.

He lunged forward, fist aimed at Avon's throat.

Avon caught it.

The shockwave cracked the rooftop beneath them.

Nightwing's eyes widened. "Okay, that's terrifying."

Batman twisted, using Avon's grip against him, flipping over him in an attempt to dislocate his arm.

Avon simply let his body move with the attack, twisting out of the hold. "Efficient."

Another growl.

Avon's eyes flickered with amusement. "I understand you, Bat."

Batman's expression didn't change.

But his stance shifted.

A test, then.

Avon smirked.

He would pass.

Watchtower – Superman and Wonder Woman Talk

Superman leaned against the console, watching Avon's movements on a live feed.

"He's not attacking civilians. Not stealing. Not causing chaos."

Wonder Woman nodded. "He's searching. The question is—for what?"

Superman smiled. "Well, I could just ask him."

Batman's growl echoed through the comlink.

Superman chuckled. "Relax, Bats. I'll be careful."

Wonder Woman crossed her arms. "I should go too."

Superman grinned. "Afraid I'll scare him off?"

Wonder Woman smirked. "No. I think you'll talk too much."

Batman growled again.

Superman sighed. "Alright, alright. We'll be serious."

Metropolis – The Kryptonian Meets the Wolf

Avon was waiting when Superman arrived.

He turned as the Man of Steel landed before him, arms crossed. "You knew I was coming."

Avon smirked. "I heard you coming."

Superman raised an eyebrow. "Not many people can match me in a fight."

Avon's golden-red eyes flickered. "I am not many people."

Superman studied him for a moment. Then, unexpectedly, he smiled.

"You don't seem evil," he admitted. "Just… a little arrogant."

Avon chuckled. "And you are kinder than I expected."

Superman shrugged. "Gotta balance out all of Batman's growling."

A low growl came through the League's earpiece.

Superman laughed.

Avon tilted his head. "So. Will you try to stop me?"

Superman shook his head. "Not yet."

Avon's grin widened. "Good."

Because his hunt was far from over.
