The air turned tense as Ruby asked that rather intrusive question to Kayn. It sounded like it wasn't that big of a deal.
Until now, Ruby has been on guard and confused for the whole time she's been speaking with him. And now, she's yet to become curious about Kayn's Dominion.
When he heard her ask that, he was unsure for a moment before recalling back something.
During that time when he was in that void, a voice spoke to him about this... power that it ought to give him.
The power that would lead him towards a goal.
To Reign Supreme.
But at that time, he was still high in his head, so he wasn't thinking properly.
He's out of that void now, and remembering that moment, he tried to understand what all of that really meant.
"Hello? You've been awfully quiet since I asked you about your Dominion."
But before he had the time to think about that, he had completely forgotten that Ruby was still there, persisting with her question.
Even if he wanted to tell her his Dominion, he didn't know it. Maybe because he hasn't discovered it yet?
Whatever it was, he couldn't really tell her anything that wouldn't make her pester him more.
But with how things are right now, he had no choice but to respond with something in mind.
"I... don't know."
His response was monotone and cold, even. Maybe he was still tired after all of that walking, or something else.
Ruby heard him. Surprised someone would ever say something like that. But right there, she was beginning to grow more curious as each moment passed between them.
She didn't quite pick up why he didn't know; his background almost dimming in front of her.
At that instant, her Dominion gradually began to soften, its aura and effect disappearing as she stood up.
Kayn was taken aback for a second as he felt her Dominion vanish. His senses coming back to him.
The place lit up with light yet again, only this time, the dawn of day was becoming more and more evident by the minute.
Despite Ruby never finding out a peep out of him other than his name and his appearance, she wasn't getting aggressive over it.
Before they knew it, it had already been hours since they started talking. Time sure flies by, huh?
Kayn stood up as well, brushing himself off before looking at Ruby.
He finally found someone of this world. It was getting annoying for him to continuously walk around aimlessly, simply hoping to find a way out of here.
For him, this probably had been one of the worst ways to start out another world.
Well, no use thinking about that now. We need to get out of this forest.
"Hey, Ruby. Lead me out of this forest."
His voice grew sharp, yet rough and tired. He had had enough for one day in this new life of his.
In an almost commanding tone, Kayn had asked Ruby that. Making her flinch on instinct before glancing back towards him.
She was triggered at first, before she noticed his eyes that told a different story.
For the first time in a long time, had she ever seen eyes as deep as his.
It reminded her of someone.
She figured that what use would getting worked over him would do?
She took a short, considered breath before she looked back towards the forest.
She had mixed feelings about what to say or do right now, especially when she was with someone.
But seeing him look seemingly lost in this forest with no real direction to go, she might as well lead him out of here.
"Since you seem lost, I'll take you to my outpost that's just right outside this forest. Sound good?"
She tried to speak nicely, hoping that she would gain his trust, even a little bit.
Hearing this, Kayn was becoming wary again, as he knew what had happened back in the past. But at this point, all he could do was follow her.
"Yeah. Let's go."
And so, the both of them went off and began walking through the forest yet again.
Only this time, Kayn now had Ruby, a person from this world who supposedly knew where to go to get out of this place.
Coming here with her rather flashy and ominous looks, she was a lot friendlier than what he expected.
Even so far as to give him a brief introduction about this world's magic system of sorts.
Dominion. He still didn't know too much about it, but there was a thought in his mind that pondered on by itself.
This power, the power he was going to be given, probably has something to do with these Dominions.
Seeing Dominion first-hand, Kayn had a few guesses and deductions he made about it.
Judging by the name of this magic itself, Dominions. It could refer to the area a person or user has control over.
Within this designated area, could the same users impose effects.
Similarly to how Ruby made him see things and turned the surrounding environment disorienting, this counts as imposing an effect.
But this was all his theory on paper, so he wasn't too sure.
But that's when he remembered something Ruby said.
She knew someone who could teach him more about Dominions, so that would come in as helpful.
Anyways, he couldn't help but feel a little excited about all of this.
His arrival in this world could not be merely a coincidence at all. As that voice knew all of his doings back in his previous world. What does that mean, though?
It could've meant that the voice knew about his undoing and granted this opportunity of another life?
He didn't want to think about it, because all it did was give him more pain in the head.
And yet, he still had this goal. It was absolutely unforgettable, even if he died all over again.
Reign Supreme.
Did that voice have that much faith for it to believe he'd be able to do such a thing?
Or maybe...
Did it know about Kayn more than we thought it did?
