Chapter 22 - Fifth Floor

It seemed Doyun saw it too. Unlike Yejun, though, he didn't even flinch. He just stared at the blood.

"Whose do you think that is—"

Yejun smacked him on the head. "Shut up. Be serious. T-That's literally blood…"

His hands were shaking—of course they were. Shit. He could never see blood without the memories creeping back in.

Calm down, Yejun. Deep breath. Calm down...

Just then, a teacher came strolling down the hallway. Their Potions teacher, Miss E.

"Aww, hey kids! Yejun, I didn't see you in class today, everything alright?"

Yejun nodded quickly. "Yeah…"Miss E smiled, weird as ever, and wandered off like nothing happened. Doyun and Yejun exchanged looks before Yejun muttered, "Hey—listen. Let's just ignore this. It has nothing to do with us, so—""No," Doyun cut him off. "We can't. And second of all, it probably does, especially with you."

Okay, fair. But there was no way Yejun was dealing with this mess today. Nope. He turned on his heel and headed straight to the common room.By the time he blinked, he was already in his room. Per usual, Doyun was banging on the door, screaming curse words through the wood like it was a sport. But today, he had a third tactic.

A paper slid under Yejun's door.

Curious, Yejun unfolded it.

"Bitch open the fucking door"

Wow. Poetry.

He rolled his eyes, grabbed some clothes, and headed to the shower. Eventually, he crashed on the creaky old bed like always. Just before he knocked out, a shadow passed beneath the door.

The next morning, Yejun actually felt...refreshed? Huh. First period was History of Magic with Mr. Rinh—his favorite. That guy could tell a story like no one else.

Yejun rushed in early, excited. But when he got to class, he froze.Mr. Rinh and Asher were talking. And not like normal-student-teacher-talking. More like…weirdly casual? Nah, he was probably overthinking.

"Hello, Mr. Rinh!"

"Well, hello, Yejun," the teacher greeted with a warm smile.

Yejun grinned and started firing off questions before class officially started. But soon the lesson began, and he had to take his seat.

His eyes flicked to Asher. Oh, crap. He still hadn't explained the whole Addams incident. Yejun leaned in, tapping Asher's shoulder.

"Hey... Asher... I need to talk to you after class."

When the bell rang, they were already outside the classroom.

"Sooo… you know the thing with Addams, right?" Yejun scratched the back of his neck, nervous. "Look, whether you believe me or not, I swear I didn't do it on purp—"

"Yejun." Asher cut him off with a hand on his back. "I'm not even worried about that. Of course I know it wasn't on purpose. Why would you ever do that?"

"…Wait, seriously? You believe me?"

"Duh. You're my best friend."

Yejun blinked, stunned for a second—then smiled. "Wait… I can call you best friend too, right?"

"Of course."

Then the bell rang again.

"Well, I gotta run. See you around!" And just like that, Asher was gone.

What a kind guy.Yejun had a free period, so he wandered around the hallways. Just as he passed the bathrooms, he saw something…off.

Nari.

But she wasn't going into the bathroom—she was slipping into a room Yejun had never seen before. He paused, but...nah. Not his problem. The rest of the day flew by, mostly chill. Well, aside from him and Doyun nearly throwing hands in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Just maybe. Not confirmed.By dinner, Yejun was supposed to be in detention. Key word: supposed to. But he skipped—again. He was already sure he would now get extra days, honestly probably an extra month knowing Ms.Keira, but who cares.

He was sitting with Owen, Rae, Hana, and unfortunately Doyun too. Guess he skipped as well. Tragic.

For once, the table was dead silent.

Owen broke it first. "Why are we so quiet?"

Hana shrugged. "Cause you're being quiet."

Owen gave her an offended look before going back to shoveling food into his mouth.

Yejun got bored halfway through and dipped, heading to the library. There, he spotted Nari.

Perfect. Time to get some answers.

He jogged over. She was holding that same notebook again—and just like last time, she hid it the second she saw him.

"Hey, Nari… I wanted to ask you about last time."

She nodded, like she'd been expecting it. "Yeah. I figured you would."

"So...?"

Nari stared at him. Blankly. Her eye twitched a few times. Then, finally:

"Listen. I can't tell you much. But Yejun, stay out of trouble. And avoid the fifth floor. Got it?"

He blinked. "Wha—why?"

"Yejun. Just promise me."

She locked eyes with him, the confident, intimidating Nari fully back.

"Alright! Alright! I promise!"

Nari stood up. "Good. I have to go. See you around. And remember what you promised."

Then, like always, she disappeared.

Strange girl.

As Yejun left the library, he spotted Asher, Sera, Jia—and even Jae. What were they all doing here?

"Yo! What y'all up to?" he said, strolling over.

"Nothing much, honestly."

They all chatted for a bit before Yejun realized something horrifying.

"…Wait. It's past curfew??"

Sera nodded. "Yep."

He glanced around for the clock. 11:30 PM.

"Oh, shit, I have Astronomy!"

"Anyone else?" he asked.

Jae and Sera raised their hands.

"Cool. Let's go. The rest of y'all better head to your dorms."

They said their goodbyes and the trio headed to the Astronomy Tower, chatting about random stuff.

"I'm so excited for Astronomy!" Sera was practically vibrating, jumping up and down the walls.

Too bad her excitement was wasted.

The whole class was…reading. Literally. The teacher handed them some dusty pages and told them to summarize pages 100–125. That was it.

Even Jae looked bored—and Jae was a walking textbook.

As class finally ended, Sera and Jae were still chatting, but Yejun's head was somewhere else entirely. He didn't even notice when they split up.He was walking through the dungeons alone now. It was 1AM. Every creak, every echo had him turning his head.

Then—

 Thump.

He froze.

Probably just the pipes again. Right? Right?

No. This time, there was a shadow behind him.

A tall, human shadow.

Standing right behind him.
