Azriel looked at the middle aged man who stood on the altar. It was this man that had called his name but what was the last name he mentioned.
'Necroline, really?'
Azriel thought to himself as he strode towards the altar amidst murmurs that made him frown and lose hope about this so called awakening. Listening to the murmurs made him realise the kind of person he had taken over.
Azriel was the embodiment of trash, which was a disgrace to the Ragnar name, because they were known to possess the rune of abyss and the bestial rune.
This was his third time partaking in this ceremony since he had always come out as a null who can't posess a rune. He was immediately disowned by his family so he took on the last name of his dead maternal grandfather, Necroline.
Now seventeen years old, if he fails this awakening, that's the end of the road for him. Azriel sighed as he got on the altar under the gaze of the middle-aged priest.
The priest moved back a bit which allowed Azriel to notice a black crystal floating above a pedestal. As he looked at it, he understood what he needed to do since he was a veteran.
"May the universe be upon you!" The priest prayed.
Azriel just shrug as he stretched his right hand towards the crystal before he closed his eyes and freed his mind.
He suddenly found himself in a cloudy plane, he was standing on a still river which reflected the blue sky. Azriel noticed a huge banyan tree behind him but that was not what caught his attention. It was a otherworldly looking man, as he sat there, he made one notice how majestic he is despite how carefree he looked.
As Azriel stared at the man, he was confused because the man looked exactly like him aside from the fact that the man was older.
"I've waited for too long, now you're complete!" A sigh resounded through the plane as the man opened his eyes, a playful smirk graced his lips and his red pupils glimmered before he vanished.
Azriel looked around as he was surprised whether this is how the awakening worked, but when he combed his memories, he realized this was the first time he was encountering something like this.
Just then...
[Conditions have been met... System synchronising with the host...10%....30%...]
"What?....System?" Azriel was stunned before his lips widened into a grin, as part of his soul from modern earth, he had read so many web novels and understood what the system represented.
As he waited for the system synchronisation, his environment warped and he found himself back in the temple.
He took back his hand and stared at the priest who looked at him with pity but Azriel just shook his head before he suddenly hissed in pain as he clenched his right forearm, raising his clothes he saw a black sun tattoo with a black line running through it.
"Congratulations kid, you received your rune" the priest congratulated him to which Azriel nodded but his mind was listening to the system. He turned around and walked down the altar as the priest called someone else.
[Synchronization complete!]
[Genetic rune awakened...ERROR!]
[ERROR!]
[ERROR!]
[Due to Circumstances, Runes have changed, you have received the rune of the heavenly demon, genetic rune, rune of fire has been changed to rune of hellflame]
[Rune: Heavenly Demon, Hellflame]
Seeing this, Azriel grinned before walking out of the temple, he finally could raise his head high and not be ashamed, despite that, he is never changing his name.
"From now on, I'll remain as Azriel Necroline"
But his thoughts were interrupted, when he noticed a fierce gaze upon himself, looking in the direction of the gaze, Azriel was confused at first before he recognized the man who was staring at him.
It was a middle aged man with red hair and beard, dressed in gray tuxedo which matched his figure, he bore a slight resemblance to Azriel aside from the fact that they had different hair color, his hair was red while Azriel's hair was black. This man was El Ragnar, the current leader of the Ragnar Household and his father, he also has another title in Azriel's mind. He is the man who had disowned him.
Azriel could still remember the words he had said to him the day he was disowned.
'You do not deserve the name of Ragnar, you do not deserve the blood that runs through your veins, as a sign of mercy, you no longer belong to this household and your name shall me ousted from the family books!'
El walked up to Azriel who did not waver under his gaze, a black haired woman followed behind him dressed in a white gown as she stared at Azriel with worry written all over her face.
Most of the people around paused at the sight, as El was a very renowned man, as he is one of the seven duke of the empire, Grand duke Ragnar.
They were all curious about who was standing before him, when they noticed the teenager, they felt that the teenager was down on his luck as he had offended the grand duke.
"What do you want?" Azriel asked in one breath as he tried to stop himself from kneeling due to the overwhelming pressure El was putting on him.
"Oh..." El rose an eyebrow in surprise as he folded his arms and looked at the boy who was just an inch shorter than he was.
"...I was wondering what a null was doing around the temple, you know you are way past the awakening state"
Azriel smirked, "sorry to bust your bubble, I'm no longer a null, I just awakened..."
His words came as a surprise, El stared at the boy who didn't even waver at his gaze, the woman behind him came forward and held Azriel's shoulder.
Azriel pushed her hands off him and this made El frown, he noticed the alienation in the boy's gaze and he could feel how it made the woman downcast.
"She's your mother"
"I don't have a mother neither do I have a father, I do not bear your last name so you do not have the effrontery to tell me who my parents are, after I walked out of there, my parents died" Azriel said as he looked at the woman who looked at him with tears welling in her eyes, he turned around, he saw a boy standing before, he noticed the toxicity in his gaze, he just walked past and continued on.
"Kael, did you awaken?" El asked, his tone unchanged as if what had happened didn't happen. The boy walked up to El and made a curt bow.
"Yes, father"
Kael turned to the woman who still stared at the Azriel walked, he clenched his fists. "Mom, I awakened"
The woman turned to look at him and smiled, but the smile did not reach her eyes and it made Kael more furious, he turned to look at Azriel's back.
"I promise you, Azriel... I'll show mom, only I am enough!"
