Chapter: Council Meeting
I could feel the tension in the air before I even stepped into the room. It gripped the space like a storm cloud waiting to break.
The Council meeting had already dragged on longer than it should have, a constant back-and-forth of accusations, suspicions, and demands. It was the same as it always was—only the faces around the polished oak table seemed to change, each Alpha coming in with their own agenda, convinced they knew what was best for the pack.
But none of them carried it the way I did. None of them had bled for it the way I had.
I rubbed the back of my neck as I took my seat at the head of the table, the leather chair creaking beneath me. The room smelled heavily of old wood, damp leather, and too much cologne. Every word that had been said seemed to bounce off the high ceilings, hammering into my skull. I tried to center myself, to focus on the words spinning in the room.
