Chapter 16 - Hunter Gatherer

The Boss slammed its massive paw into the ground and released a low growl before raising its head and howling into the full moon.

Jason kept his glare in place as he watched the giant wolf for any sign of disobedience. Jason had never had a subordinate reject his summon before, so he didn't know if this one would be as obedient as the others.

The black wolf finally brought its head down and looked at Jason with ominous red eyes. It carefully trekked towards Jason, and Jason tightened his hand into a fist while preparing a command in his mind. If the wolf showed any sign of hostility, then his Legion would kill it.

…A wet tongue licked across Jason's face.

Jason felt his entire body relax, and he brought a hand up to clean his face before sighing. He couldn't believe he was worried about this bastard for a moment.

Another lick, and then another, and then another.

"Okay, okay, that's enough. Fucking hell. Why do all of you like licking me so much?"

Jason chuckled as the humongous wolf tilted its head to one side with a small growl, and Jason knew that it was saying, "Just because…"

Jason shook his head and sighed. The wolf was nearly six meters tall, and it towered over him like a freaking building. Its black skin had streaks of purple light running across it, and its claws and fangs had grown even more imposing and intimidating than before.

A beast like this couldn't be defeated unless you were at least a high-level B Rank, or maybe even a low-level A Rank. It was definitely worthy of being called the Boss of a Red Gate.

'And now it's mine.'

Jason felt a smile appear on his face as he looked up at the wolf's screen.

——

[Moonlight Wolf]

[Pawn Class Rank III]

[Upgrade Points [0/20]]

[Upgrade Limit: Knight Class Rank III]

——

'Fucking hell! Twenty!?'

Jason was surprised by how many upgrade points he needed to use if he wanted to upgrade the wolf! The Pawn Rank II only needed 5 upgrade points, so he thought that the Rank III would need ten or maybe even fifteen.

Twenty points is fucking highway robbery!

But at least the upgrade limit was also high. He would be able to take this wolf all the way up to Knight Class Rank III! So investing points in it didn't seem like it would be a waste of time.

Jason looked over at his stats and mana, and he saw that his mana had increased by a whopping 55MP. That meant the Boss had about 550MP. When Jason added that to the MP he got from the Boss's subordinate that was resurrected, he had 410MP in total.

As for his stats:

——

STATISTICS

Strength: A

Stamina: A

Agility: A

Durability: B

——

His durability was still in the B Rank, but everything else had shot up to A, and that meant that Jason was now an A Rank superhuman.

Jason clenched and unclenched his fists as he felt the new power surging inside him, and he grinned. It was a good start.

Another tab opened in front of Jason, and he turned to it curiously.

——

[For clearing out the Den of the Moonlight Wolves, the user has gained a new Title [Alpha]]

[Alpha: All pack-minded magic beasts will have their willpower suppressed when facing the user. The user will have a 50% boost in all stats when facing wolf-type magic beasts. The user has gained a 10% boost to Charisma.]

——

'This would've been helpful before I had to tussle with a two-meter-tall wolf.'

Jason frowned at the system before he sighed. It was a very useful title, and if he ever faced off against a wolf again, then he could be sure that he would easily overpower it.

Jason then looked back at his kill points. He got 70 more points from the Boss' second subordinate, and now he had gotten 150 points from the Boss, making the total number of points reach 1550 points.

Jason walked over to the rock and sat against it while looking over his subordinates with a critical gaze.

He could either use 1500 points and raise three Rank II wolves to Rank III, or he could use 1000 points to raise two Rank II wolves to Rank III and then use 500 points to raise five Rank I wolves to Rank II.

Jason thought about it for a while and he decided he would go with the second option. It was good to have a lot of strong soldiers, but that doesn't mean he should neglect his weaker soldiers.

Having five more Rank II's would be more beneficial than having one more Rank III, especially if he was fighting against multiple enemies at the same time. From the fight he had against the Boss, Jason could tell that three or four Rank II's would be enough to put down a single Rank III if they went all out, so the choice was an easy one.

Jason made up his mind and he began moving the points from Kill Points into Upgrade Points. Once that was done, he called on the two Rank II's that had fought against the boss. They were the bravest of the Legion, so they deserved to be Rank III's.

The two Rank II wolves came up to him happily and Jason moved the points from his system into them.

A purple aura surrounded the beasts before their bodies began to change. They grew taller and larger, their claws grew out even sharper than before, and their fangs elongated until they were as large as Jason's leg.

Once the transformation was finished, they looked very similar to the Boss, except the Boss had black fur and purple stripes while they had white fur with purple stripes.

Jason put his hand out and the wolves brought their heads down so he could pet them. He then ordered them to go back to their brothers, and they returned.

Jason then called on five of the Rank I wolves, and they came forward. Jason transferred five hundred kill points into upgrade points and then gave them one each.

Their bodies changed and they grew larger until they were similar to the other Rank II wolves, and Jason laughed as most of them nuzzled him at the same time. Jason was able to stand his ground even with the extra force they now had since they were stronger and Jason knew that it was because he had also gotten stronger.

His mana had increased once he upgraded his wolves, and even though there were no changes in his stats, he could feel that he was stronger.

Jason looked around at the various corpses and he sent a mental command to the Legion, telling them to begin picking out the Magic Crystals in the corpses.

The Pawn Rank III's and Pawn Rank II's stayed behind while the Pawn Rank I's started to work, and Jason realized that they had already begun forming a hierarchy in his Legion without his notice.

The weaker wolves were treating the stronger wolves as their betters, and they were willingly performing the menial jobs to give the bigger wolves respect.

Jason didn't really care about how they handled hierarchy as long as they all obeyed him, so he allowed it to happen.

The wolves looked through all the bodies and brought the Magic Crystals to Jason, and when Jason put them together, he had fifteen Magic Crystals that were from the regular wolves, two magic crystals from the subordinate of the Boss, and one large magic crystal that was from the Boss. If he added all of that to the ones he had collected earlier, then he had thirty-four magic crystals altogether.

But the wolf that had been retrieving the crystals from the Boss suddenly dropped something else in front of Jason, and Jason bent to pick it up curiously.

It was some sort of glowing fang that had a significant amount of mana flowing inside it. It was as long as Jason's forearm, and he could tell that it was extremely sharp.

'Is this some sort of dagger? It can probably be used to make a weapon. I'll give it to an appraiser later and see what it is. I'm sure it'll be worth something.'

Jason grabbed the crystals and put them all in the Alternate Dimension. He then flipped the fang-like dagger in his hand while looking around.
