Outside the Red Gate, the entire country was in turmoil!
Hundreds of newscasters and reporters were standing around the gate with cameras flashing and yelling at the top of their lungs as they explained what was happening to the people at home.
There were hundreds of policemen and military soldiers standing around as well, trying their best to make sure that no one entered the gate.
People were taking pictures and shouting at the top of their lungs as they waited for a Superhuman team to arrive on the scene.
The presence of a Gate was something that always caused a buzz in any city, and the reporters would always be the first to arrive because they knew that Superhumans would be on the scene as well.
One of the reporters, a young woman with long brown hair and a small face, was shouting loudly toward her camera to try and address the people back home over the noise!
[The police have refused to give a statement about the current state of things, but it is believed that no less than four people were swallowed by the gate during its emergence!]
At the side, another reporter, a young Asian man with black hair and slit eyes had one hand over his ear as he spoke into his mic.
[Footprints were found just outside the gate, indicating a possible struggle, along with a mobile phone that is believed to belong to one Jason Marc, an eighteen-year-old student of Riverdale High School!]
Another reporter was already in the middle of creating some new theories about how Jason was a gangster and he was in the middle of a battle with other gang members when the gate opened.
And a third reporter was talking about which Superhuman Guild would arrive on the scene first to handle the gate! It was absolute anarchy out there!
Whenever a Gate like this one opens, all the guilds with enough members and clearance would send requests to the government asking for permission to go inside. The guilds would sign a document promising to hand a certain amount of resources to the government if they were allowed to go in, and the government would choose whichever guild they believed would give them the most benefit based on merit, popularity, and other factors.
This is why there were a lot of guilds that never got any action on the battlefield even though they had enough Superhumans.
The world of Superhumans was a dog-eat-dog world where only those with connections and a lot of funds would be able to make the most money.
Small guilds, like the one Gina was a part of, didn't even get to go into more than one Red Gate every two months, so they didn't make that much money, while large guilds, like the Hornet Guild would receive two or three Red Gates a month, making them richer and more popular as time passed!
Although there were laws in place ensuring that every guild was given a fair chance to enter the Gate, there was no way they could all be given equality since some of them were just far more connected than others.
Right now, the guilds in the city had all sent their requests to the government and it would take about an hour for the government to decide on which guild would get to enter the gate.
The reporter was talking about the most popular guilds and which one they believed would get the contract.
But a loud voice suddenly cut through the commotion.
"Get the hell out of my way! MOVE!"
The reporters all turned to see a woman shoving people out of the way! She had a furious look on her face and even though she wasn't using that much strength, people were easily falling over and being pushed away so they immediately knew that she was a Superhuman!
The woman screaming was Gina and she had a look of absolute terror on her face! She had been in Jason's apartment watching a soap opera and waiting for him when she got a call from the hospital saying that Mira had collapsed!
Gina was shocked and she raced to the hospital immediately as worry filled her heart, but she became even more worried when she heard the reason why Mira collapsed! Jason was inside a Red Gate and no one knew what had happened to him!
The fear that came over her at that moment didn't even allow her to think! She made sure that Mira was going to be taken care of before she broke out of the hospital room and raced towards the alley faster than anyone could follow! Mira's heart was pounding in her ears and a desperate fear was gripping her heart at the moment!
Jason could be dead! He couldn't leave them like this! What in the world were they going to do if he left them!? Gina knew that people who were sucked into a Gate never stood a chance of surviving. The first victims of a Gate are always those that were taken in by the suction, and since they were usually normal humans, they would end up dying before the Superhumans could enter and kill the boss!
But Gina didn't even want to think about it! She didn't care if the chances of him living were low, she just wanted him to live!
Once Gina got to the alleyway where the Gate opened, she saw that there were hundreds of people around! Reporters were shouting into their mics while talking about the Gate and some civilians were taking pictures and smiling in excitement as they waited for the Superhumans to arrive!
Did they think Jason's life was a fucking joke!?
"Get the hell out of my way!"
Gina easily fought her way to the front! She was holding back to make sure she didn't hurt any of the humans, but it was still far too easy for her to push them down!
She hurried forward to get to the Gate, but before she could pass through, a police officer came up to her and stopped her.
"Sorry ma'am, you can't go beyond this point. It's against the law."
"What the hell are you talking about!? My friend is in there! We need to go and save him!"
The police officer shook his head. He had seen many people grieving about those that were sucked into the Gate before and he always knew how it ended. They would be sad and angry, but eventually, they would understand that there was nothing they could do. No one could have predicted when the Gate would appear and it was just bad luck that people were pulled in. There was no chance that the boy was still alive.
"I understand you're feeling distressed ma'am, but please exercise reason. We both know that the boy is already d-"
"Say that word and you'll become it."
The officer felt his words die in his throat as Gina glared at him! She was a whole head shorter than the man, but her glare was piercing enough to make him take a step back! Gina was a C-rank Superhuman, so even though she looked like a normal person, her pressure was still enough to make the man rethink his words. He was only a regular human, so there was no chance he would be able to stand up to Gina!
The man apologized and Gina clicked her tongue. Gina turned to the Gate and squeezed her hands into fists! She couldn't stay out here and do nothing! Jason was still alive! He had to be alive!
