King Killain's steps were slow and calculated as he walked through the hallway, heading toward the guards' chambers. He did not want what happened just now to repeat itself, so he was going to give the head warrior a proper warning. Perhaps, even punish him for allowing such an incompetent fool into the palace.
The kid, Gabriel, was utterly foolish because not only did he forget to hide his scent like every warrior had been trained to, he dared to eavesdrop on the King…A man with a very heightened sense. King Killian literally heard the sound of his heartbeat over the door, he also knew Gabriel was excited due to the rate at which his heart was beating. This was how heightened his senses were.
King Killian was very close to the guards' quarter when this strange annoying feeling bubbled up in his chest…sadness? He paused, groaning in irritation. "Just great." He muttered in disgust when he realized he could feel how sad his mate was. "Silly mate bond." He groaned.
Although King Killian hadn't mated with Elena yet, he could still feel some of her emotions. Unfortunately, one of them had to be her sadness. He was already having a hard time managing insignificant feelings like her anxieties and fears, now sadness had to get involved. How convenient.
Taking a swift U-turn, King Killian decided to head back to his room. Soon, he reached and opened the door only to find his wife sluggishly pacing around the room, muttering a few gibberish. Her back turned to him.
King Killian strode toward her, and in one fluid motion, he seized her by the waist and spun her to face him, her legs instinctively wrapping around his hips. With ease, he lifted her onto the vanity table, laying her down as his gaze darkened. "Tell me princess, what makes you sad?" The words rolled smoothly from his mouth.
Elena's eyes widened in shock, her heart racing so fast and loud, pounding against her ribcage as though it was fighting for a way out of her system. Her breath hitched, mouth slightly agape. She froze, her body quickly getting cold with each passing second. But, the inside of her body burned.
"W-what–" Elena tried to speak, but suddenly did not know how to form words. King Killian was too close to her, stealing her breath away.
She squirmed, attempting to break free, but his grip around her wrist tightened with quiet authority. She was literally pinned to the table, with Killain in between her thighs.
"Don't bother struggling, love." King Killian breathed out. "Just tell me why you're sad, so I can take it away. The emotion is quite sickening, utterly disturbing. I don't like it. So tell me, so I can get rid of what is making you sad." He voiced.
Elena was dumbfounded. How did he even know she was sad and what does her sadness have to do with him?
"I-I can't read." Elena finally said, her voice barely above a whisper. She averted her gaze to the other side, ashamed to look into Killian's eyes.
King Killian raised a brow. He definitely wasn't expecting that. "You can't read?" He asked, just to be sure he heard right and Elena nodded in response.
King Kilian sighed, and then he slowly let go of Elena as he raked his hand through his hair. This was insanely disturbing. "Why can't you read, Elena?"
Elena rose, sitting upright as she straightened her dress. She did not give a reply though, as she was too ashamed to tell Killian she could not read because she spent a good number of her years in a dungeon after almost killing her cousin.
King Killian sighed, he could sense her dilemma so he did not push further, instead he said, "Fine, I'll have a timetable prepared for you. Irene would teach you how to read on your free__"
"No!" Elena yelled, stopping King Killian from speaking further. "I-I don't want Irene to teach me. S-she might start looking down on me. A Queen who can't read?"
If King Killian still knew how to express emotions, he'd have laughed at Elena for being so cute. Instead, he said, "Elena, Irene knows better than to make my wife feel less of herself. Trust me, she would not dare." He leaned in, "Irene would never do something that would make me angry."
Elena gulped. She did not say a word as she kept her eyes fixed on King Killian for a long while. It was as if the world started moving in slow motion as both of them kept their gazes on each other. She could swear she had seen something like desire in his eyes but it disappeared as quickly as it came, replaced with anger.
Elena yelped as King Killian suddenly carried her again, in the same position as earlier, legs wrapped around his hips. He dropped her on the bed, his huge body still between her thighs. "Take off your dress, Elena."

In the guards' quarter, a young guard above twenty-eight was seen pacing around his room, the look in his eyes a mixture of pride and excitement. He was alone at that moment as his roommates, two other guards, were out on a mission with Beta Gareth.
"The King is only contractually married to the Queen? This means he has no interest or care for her? He only married her for the kingdom? To probably give him an heir?" Warrior Ruko thought aloud, hands stroking his chin.
His lips curled up in a wide smile. "If what Gabriel said is true, then I can make my advance toward the Queen, knowing the King wouldn't care."
At this moment, warrior Ruko was ecstatic. Ever since Elena entered the palace, he always thought about her, dreaming about her as well. He wanted to have a taste of her and had been praying for a chance to do so, even though he knew it would be impossible. However, if the information Gabriel gave was correct, then he could definitely have his chance now.
Warrior Ruko did not even care one bit about his friend's death. He believed it was Gbariel's fault for even getting caught. "How stupid and unfortunate." He thought, a frown forming on his face.
However, his joy quickly came back when he thought about Elena. "Wait for me dear, Elena."
