Luka glanced at Noah who was lying on the lab bed, the man didn't seem to be here. His mind was drifting somewhere, not caring about what Luka was doing to him.
Yesterday, Noah had another episode. But the situation was much worse than before, Kai Wood cleared all his schedules today even though the man had to first quarrel with Noah. The stubborn man adamantly feels that there is nothing wrong with him, he can do the task well, while Kai Wood agrees with Luka to take Noah to the laboratory for further checking.
"What are you doing?" Asked Luka, looking strangely at Noah, the man spread his hands apart, staring at his left hand, especially his ring finger. A ring was attached there.
Luka knew the ring was given by Kai Wood.
The S+ rank guide did not have high compatibility with other Esper, but his guiding could still be used by them. One year ago, due to his poor compatibility score, Kai created a device to store his energy that could be used temporarily to help Esper guiding in the dungeon or after a fight.
If Luka chose medicine as an energy-blocking intermediary, Kai Wood chose accessories that can be worn daily as guiding in a simpler way.
That ring is one of the things he made.
Although at the beginning Luka was surprised because he did not expect his appearance to be that eccentric.
"You know he developed accessories to store his energy?" Noah asked Luka who was now engrossed in the screen in front of him, the man moving one cable to another that was connected to Noah's body.
"Yes, he is one of the guides who also conducts development and research."
"You said he's stupid."
Luka turned to Noah with a questioning look, "When did I say that?"
Noah twirled his hands, "Oh, then I'm the one who thinks so."
Luka sighed while looking at Noah in disbelief, how could this man say that? If not a friend since childhood, Luka didn't want to ever meet Noah Miles again. His beautiful face was different from his bad personality.
Lies. Of course Luka wanted to see Noah again, he couldn't part with Noah after what they had been through together since childhood.
"Did you get in touch with Nora?" The question suddenly came out of his mouth as he recalled their childhood.
The question managed to make Noah stop the activity of staring at the ring given to him by Kai, he lowered his hand and now only looked at the ceiling.
"Are you sure she'll accept me? She'll definitely blab to me first before I say anything."
"Oh of course, you chose to sleep for two years without caring that there was someone waiting for you to wake up. You worried her so much that she almost destroyed this laboratory."
Noah chuckled at that, he could imagine how Nora was making a mess in here, "Well, she's an Esper with Psychic Vampire abilities. You guys won't be able to stop her."
Luka stopped his activities when Noah said that, he turned to Noah who was still lying on the bed.
"Nora, she got her final test results, she's the only psychic Vampire Alpha Esper with Absolute Psionic Power ability."
Noah immediately sat up on the bed, his eyes round with shock. He stared at Luka, unable to believe what he had just heard.
"What did they do to Nora?" His teeth chattered as a hint of anger surfaced, his hands clenched into fists.
"Hey, she still wasn't assigned directly to the Dungeon as you requested. After you entered the long sleep period, Nora made a mess in this laboratory, at that time even a guide with S rank couldn't stop her, a guide from the Iris guild with S+ rank made her stop. Her strength that day was so different from usual, the Willow guild conducted a test and the result was that she was an Alpha Esper."
Guilt now gnawed at Noah. He shouldn't have done something to trigger Nora's power to come out fully, the feelings he had made him blind to that. Now, he was putting Nora's life in danger.
"Do the guild president and director know about it?"
"Even if they weren't there at the time, the news would have spread quickly."
Noah covered his face with both hands, he sighed, his long hair was beautifully silvery in the lamplight.
"Did people here not know about my psychic powers until today?" Asked Noah to Luka who was now removing all the wires from his body, the overall examination of Noah's body was complete. The results were much better after the guiding done overnight by Kai Wood, Luka was sure that tomorrow when Noah did his job everything would be fine especially since he was using a ring that had Kai's energy in it.
"Don't worry, I'm working in this lab because I have to do something to manipulate your data. But hey, you can't hide your psychic powers forever, Noah." Luka said, now buttoning Noah's shirt one by one, while the man was still listening.
"I can still cover that up."
"Not with your stubbornness refusing the guiding inside the Dungeon by Kai Wood, sooner or later that guy will find out your psychic powers other than you being a Combat Esper."
The thorough examination over, Noah had yawned widely several times before finally teleporting from Luka's Laboratory to his own home. He walked towards the kitchen after arriving, the house felt so quiet whereas usually when he had just teleported, Kai Wood had popped his head out from behind his bedroom door and offered guiding.
Noah opened the fridge and took out a bottle of cold water, he drank it.
Strange, there was no sign of the man being at home.
"Did he go to work?" Noah glanced at his watch, it was already four in the afternoon. Didn't he get off work at three in the afternoon? Did office workers always go home at night like Esper?
His head was full of questions as he walked towards the TV room and stopped in front of the couch. Noah found Kai sleeping there, the tall man with a sizable stature was sleeping there with his legs partially drooping to the floor because they didn't fit.
The couch is not big enough.
Noah scanned Kai's face, this was his first time actually seeing the man's face. This man had quite a handsome face and looked younger than his age, he had beautiful pinkish lips, his lower lip was rather thick with a mole just below the lip. Typical of naughty kids and get a lot of trouble.
He didn't look like a kid who took his work seriously. Noah had heard that he was the younger brother of Knox Wood, the Chief Commander of Division One of the Oak Guild. Noah thought he was able to get in there because of a connection, in fact he was able to develop things like accessories to make the work of guides and esper much easier.
He's got a smart brain.
As he was watching Kai, the man's eyes opened, a pair of bright red orbs staring at him. Noah was shocked to death and almost spilled the water in the bottle. Kai blinked his eyes, he realized that he had accidentally fallen asleep on the couch, his face flushed with embarrassment.
"Damn it, he saw my sleeping face!" He mumbled while wiping his mouth, afraid that he had just drooling while asleep.
"W...why are you sleeping here? Aren't you cold?!" Noah spoke stammering with embarrassment.
Kai sat on the couch and shook his head, "No, no, I just overslept for a while waiting for you to come home." He said. The two of them became misty-eyed because of their respective thoughts.
Noah scratched the back of his neck and drank all the water from the bottle, throwing it in the trash as he walked towards his room.
"Ah, Noah..." Kai called out just before he opened the door to the bedroom, Noah turned to him.
The boy was still sitting on the couch scratching his reddened nape, Noah frowned. Apart from the nape, the boy's ears were also red.
Ah, is he embarrassed that I saw him sleeping?
"Yes?"
"Uh, how did the examination go?" Asked Kai, he is still lowered his head. Avoiding Noah's gaze.
Noah raised his eyes up, as if he thinking before answering, "Everything's good..." He said, turning his head towards Kai.
"Ah, thank goodness." Kai replied again, he was still very embarrassed that Noah had seen him sleeping on the couch.
Noah was still staring at Kai's back who was still sitting, the back of his neck and behind his ears were still red from embarrassment. Noah smiled slightly.
"Kai…"
"Yes?" The man immediately turned to Noah with a surprised face.
"I didn't see your sleeping face, I just arrived and was about to wake you up when you suddenly opened your eyes." Noah's words successfully made Kai's face red, the pink hair with red eyeballs now matched his flushed face as well. He was like a red power ranger.
Noah walked into the room, closed the door and chuckled. Ah, he's so cute.
