Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

Holy fuck.

She might be even more scared than she was with the dragon, here, the beast was wild, untamed, and completely free to rip her head off.

This might be the worst beast she had ever faced, the only one that came close was a magical moon bear, the size of a fucking planet, but she had had armies by her side then and about thirty Obsidian's to rely on.

Here, she had four others. Four who are supposed to be extremely powerful. She reminds herself.

As she's thinking this, Argon moves forward, taking out an Artifact from his storage space.

Her eyes widen, she hadn't seen an Artifact before. It was rumoured the Queen had one, and she had also been offered one along with her job offer, which she had declined.

This Artifact was a war-axe, a great, metal behemoth that was already embedding itself into the neck of the Wyvern.

She had barely registered the presence of the Artifact and in the next moment it was already being swept into the neck of the beast.

Well, it seemed inevitable as it arced through the air, it met the scales of the Wyvern and stopped.

A loud clang rang out as the war-axe vibrated, jarring the arms of Argon, who looked utterly shocked.

The Wyvern looked back at him almost lackadaisically, then swiped at him with its claws, it rips into the chest of Argon, and he goes flying back into the face of the mountain. A small explosion erupting at the landing point.

This wouldn't be life threatening for an Obsidian, but it was a bad injury to get, especially so early into the fight.

Everyone else rushes the beast, with Isabel lagging slightly behind, having hesitated for a second, not as experienced as the others.

Damian attacks it first, and a lancing lightning bolt crashes into the nose of the Wyvern. It roars in pain, and hope blooms in her mind, someone had managed to injure it. It seemed we had to go for weak points, which would be eyes and joints, to even injure it.

Abigail manages to get the next hit in, she uses a sort-of-spear, but instead of a pointy end it had a sharp blade on the end. Like someone had strapped a short sword to the end of a stick.

It arcs into the back of the Wyvern's knee, and – thankfully – blood spurts out as the weapon embeds itself into the flesh of the beast. It roars in pain again, during this, Argon recovers, his wound healing quickly.

He understood what had gone wrong, the Wyvern's scales were extremely solid, so it was critical that everyone target the weak points, even more critical than usual.

He picks up his Artifact and charges it up, blue lightning crackles around the blade of the war-axe, and he launches forward, roaring as he smashes it down into the eye of the Wyvern. The Wyvern manages to react, closing its eye. The axe cuts through the eyelid, but it slows down significantly and manages a gash in the eye. Not the killing blow it had hoped to be.

The Wyvern roars again, in agony as its eye is cut. It shakes its head aggressively, shaking off Argon and breathes fire at the people before it. Which includes Isabel.

They all throw up shields and grit their teeth as the torrent of heat hits them, and the pressure is incredible. It's almost unbearable as it rages around their shields.

She looks over at the others, Damian seems to have the least trouble out of the four of them. But even he is working up a sweat just holding up a shield.

The short woman was having a lot of trouble, her shield was cracking slowly as the seconds under the flame tick by. And just as it looks like she was about to break, the torrent dies down – the Wyvern had run out of juice.

This time, no one rushes in, all of them cautious.

The straight-haired woman attacks after a few second, arcing a fireball into the place where its front right leg connected with the body, it was still scaled there but not as heavily.

The attack is successful, leaving a blackened mess as scales explode away, exposing lightly seared flesh.

Damian jumps onto the opening, springing into action pulling out another Artifact from his spatial storage mid-air, an impossibly long and broad sword, and swings it agilely at the exposed area.

But the Wyvern reacts in time, it dodges the attach and whips its tail at Damian, he can't dodge this time and is launched backward through many trees. He's blasted backward so far that he is out of sight, the only indication of his location were the distant trees falling down.

She sees a flash of movement, it's Dorian. But he's not going for Damian, he's decided to take Argon out of the fight surprisingly. The most experienced and possibly the most powerful.

And as she watches the limp body of Argon be dragged away by Dorian, she realises just how powerful this Wyvern might be. It didn't seem to be as powerful as the dragon, but it was way closer than she had thought initially.

From this distance, she can see the tense look on Dorian's face and she knew he was aching to interfere. This was dangerous, but he wasn't allowed to interfere unless someone's life was threatened or…

She turns to the two girls, "Guys, we need to let Dorian take over. We're not going to win this and there's no point risking our lives. Let someone else take care of it or we can come back later with more of us."

The girls look annoyed at first, and the shorter one opens her mouth to retort, but her eyes dart too the growling Wyvern briefly, and she closes her mouth and nods hesitantly.

The straight-haired one agrees to and says, "Get Damian, he needs to agree as well."

Isabel nods then flashes over to the general location of Damian, who is standing up and dusting himself off, grumbling. There were a lot of trees felled around, and he had clearly just climbed out of the wreckage of one.

"Damian, we're surrendering."

He looks up abruptly, "No fucking way, I'm gonna kill it."

She frowns, "It's too powerful."

"Fuck you, I'm doing it." He says, there wasn't any venom in his words. He flashes back to the Wyvern and attacks it again, his sword arcing to its nose.

The attack lands surprisingly, and a cut appears, blood spraying out. But it's barely an injury for the Wyvern, it only serves to infuriate it. And before Damian can react, he's blasted in a torrent of flames point blanc.

He goes flying from the force of it, and his blackened, charred body is caught midair by a stern looking Dorian.

"You three still want to surrender?" He asks.

We all nod, and he moves toward us.
