Chapter 28 - 28

Yibo was lying in bed when he heard the doorbell ring. Sitting up, he realized he was alone in the house. Yuting was at her parents' place, and Quentin hadn't returned yet. He got up and walked cautiously to the door, asking, "Who is it?"

He heard Xinyi's voice reply, "Yemei is calling you."

Yibo opened the door and saw her standing there. Together, they walked to Zong's section of the house. Yibo went upstairs and knocked on Zihan's door. He stepped in and Zihan asked, "How are you feeling?"

"I'm better now, Yemei," Yibo replied.

Zihan nodded. "Yuting is staying at her parents' house tonight. You can either sleep here or go to Nainai's place."

"I'll go to Nainai's," Yibo decided.

"Alright, take this food with you," Zihan said, handing him a food warmer. Without argument, he knelt slightly to pick it up.

"Make sure you take your medicine after eating," she reminded him.

"I will. Good night," Yibo said before stepping out.

As he descended the stairs, he crossed paths with Seth. Their eyes met briefly before Seth looked away.

Yibo raised a brow. "Seth-ge, have you been away? I haven't seen you for two days."

"Not at all," Seth replied flatly before walking past him.

Yibo watched him for a moment, then shook his head and left the sitting room. He headed straight to Nainai's place, where he found her sleeping. Quietly, he placed the food down before settling onto the couch. The small noise woke Nainai, who groggily asked, "Why did you leave the wedding house to come back here?"

"I wasn't planning on staying overnight," Yibo answered.

Nainai clicked her tongue. "Did Yichen go to the house?"

Yibo shook his head. "No, she didn't."

"Unbelievable. So Zihan was the only one who went?"

He nodded.

Nainai sighed, rubbing her forehead. "I've seen enough in my life, but this is beyond me. Yichen has no kindness in her heart. But then again, this goes way back. When Quentin married your mother, Yichen and Zihan were inseparable. Zihan was just a small, fragile girl back then. The two of them lived in the same house with your mother, even though they had separate sections. Life was tough then-Quentin and Zong were just starting out with nothing but struggle."

She paused before continuing, "Even back then, Yichen loved causing trouble for your mother. Honestly, Yichen has always been difficult, while your mother was the patient type, never fighting back. But one day, Yuting finally snapped and gave Yichen a serious beating, to the point that she injured her arm. It took a lot of effort to pull them apart. I even told Quentin and Zong to send them both back to their parents because I was tired of all the drama. Our home was turning into a battleground."

"Over time, Zihan started visiting your mother more often. She stopped being close to Yichen. Then, when Zihan got married, Yuting was at the forefront of all her wedding arrangements. I know she did it on purpose, just to spite Yichen. Yuting was even the one who accompanied Zihan to her new home."

"That was the beginning of everything... Yichen never forgave her. And don't even get me started on how many times she tried to convince me to urged your father to take a second wife just because your mother hadn't had children. I talked to him about it so many times, but he refused. Your mother had him completely wrapped around her little finger. In the end, Quentin chose to move with your mother to Shanghai, cutting ties with all the drama here. They lived there for over five years..."

Yibo, already tired of the story, interrupted. "Alright, I didn't even ask for this story. You tell it at least five times every month."

Nainai scoffed. "Do I need permission to tell my own stories? I'll say it whenever I want, even if I'm alone in the room!"

Yibo rolled his eyes and got up to turn on the water heater for a shower. As he waited for the water to warm, Nainai suddenly asked, "Did Sen Wen call you?"

"Yes," he replied.

She smiled. "Good. Now hurry up with your bath, I have an interesting story for you."

Yibo sighed. "Just tell me now."

"No, you have to take a bath first," she insisted.

Shaking his head, Yibo headed to the bathroom. As he entered, she called after him, "And make sure you clean up the bathroom when you're done! I don't like messiness!"

Yibo ignored her and shut the door.

After his shower, he put on one of his sleeping outfits from Nainai's wardrobe, sprayed himself with her perfume, and returned to find her dozing off. Smiling, he picked up the remote to change the channel when suddenly, the door to the sitting room swung open.

Startled, he shot up to run to her room just as Zhan stepped in. Without saying a word, Yibo step inside, locked the door behind him, and wore a dark expression.

Nainai, now fully awake, gasped. "Goodness! What's going on?!"

Zhan stood still, staring at the bedroom door. Nainai sighed and said, "I have nothing to do with this. You all should learn to fear consequences. How can my home be turned into a battlefield? Do you even know how much my heart nearly gave out? I'm being wronged here... And that Quentin's son has no conscience. They even gave him that name, Yibo."

Zhan didn't say a word, nor did he stop looking at the bedroom door. Just then, Nainai's phone started ringing. She looked frustrated, almost on the verge of tears, and muttered, "Look at this now. Who is calling in the middle of the night?" She picked up the phone, pressed the answer button, and brought it to her ear. "Who is this?" she asked.

Sen Wen's voice came through. "Good evening, Grandma."

She frowned. "I said, who is this?"

"It's Sen Wen," he replied.

Nainai's eyes widened. "Sen Wen?"

He chuckled. "Yes, Grandma."

Nainai's tone softened. "Oh my, how are you?"

Zhan watched her in surprise, still silent.

Sen Wen asked, "How is the house?"

She replied, "All is well, Sen Wen. How are your parents?"

"They are doing fine," he answered.

"Good, good," Nainai said. "I haven't seen you in a while. Did Yibo give you my number?"

"Yes, he did," Sen Wen confirmed.

Nainai smiled. "Well, he did a good thing, didn't he? Alright, I'll give the phone to Zhan, who has been standing like a guard over me, to save your number. When are you coming by?"

"Tomorrow," Sen Wen replied.

"Ah, then I will personally cook for you," she said warmly.

He laughed. "Thank you, Grandma. Is Yibo nearby?"

Nainai quickly got up. "Yes, hold on, let me check. He just went to bed, you know. He only got back from his grandmother's wedding ceremony not too long ago because he was sick."

Sen Wen said, "No problem. I'll call him tomorrow instead. I actually just wanted to check on you."

Nainai smiled. "That's very kind of you. May you always be blessed. Now hang up before you waste all your credit."

Sen Wen chuckled and ended the call.

Nainai turned to Zhan, handing him the phone with a wide grin. "Here, save the number for me. It's Sen Wen's."

Zhan took the phone, glancing at the number. Nainai sat down and sighed. "That boy is really thoughtful. I'm pleased. It looks like he'll take good care of my grandchild. And since he's coming tomorrow, I'll give you money to go to the market and buy fresh vegetables and good meat so I can cook him a proper meal."

Zhan sat on the couch, still staring at her.

She frowned. "Hurry up and save the number before it gets lost."

He finished typing and handed the phone back. She took it and placed it beside her. "I guess I'll have to wake up early tomorrow. Let me fetch the money now, so you don't forget and leave without it. I don't want to be left without someone to send to the market."

Trying to keep his frustration in check, Zhan muttered, "Just give it to Seth."

Nainai gave him a sharp look. "And who is Seth?"

Zhan didn't reply.

She huffed. "Oh, please. He hasn't stepped foot in this part since that disgraceful incident. And if he does come back, what face would he use to look at me? No, I don't need him here."

Zhan nodded slowly. "And that boy, Yibo... tell him that if he ever see me and run away again, I will make sure he regrets it."

Nainai gasped. "Oh dear, what nonsense is this now? How could he not run away from you? Zhan, are you trying to torment him? I was the one who taught him to run whenever he sees you. What else do you expect him to do? Stand there and wait for your wrath?"

She shook her head. "You should fear the consequences of your actions. He's about to get married, and once that happens, you won't be able to bother him anymore. Unless...you're planning to follow him to his husband's house just to torment him? And in the end, you'll end up in jail. Sen Wen won't let you off; he'll have you locked up and shipped off to some foreign country for punishment. Then what? Quentin and Zong will have to spend an unimaginable fortune to get you out. If not, you'll rot in prison. What a mess!"

Zhan abruptly stood up and headed for the door, his face dark with frustration.

Nainai called after him, "What about the money for the market? Aren't you going to take it? Or will you use your own money to buy everything?"

Zhan didn't even glance back as he stormed out.

:-*:-*:-*:-*:-*

The next morning, Yibo was sipping the tea Nainai had prepared for him when she asked, "Why do you keep avoiding that brute, Zhan? Did you do something to him?"

At first, Yibo didn't say anything. Then, after a moment, he muttered, "It's nothing. I just don't want him bothering me in this house anymore, and I won't bother him either. Please, Nainai, help me make that clear to him."

His serious tone caught her attention.

She nodded. "That would be for the best. This way, he won't keep harassing you. Whatever suffering he caused you in the past, may justice be served. And if he thinks you owe him something, he should just tell me how much he wants. It's not beyond my reach. I can always sell one of my inherited houses and settle it.

She chuckled. "And if that's not enough, Sen Wen can always buy me another one overseas and rent it out for me."

Yibo smiled, stood up, and fetched the earrings Sen Wen had given him. When Nainai opened the box, she exclaimed, "These are gold! Where did you get them, Yibo?"

"He gave them to me," Yibo replied.

Nainai's eyes widened. "Zhan???"

Yibo frowned and corrected her, "Sen Wen."

Nainai let out a loud sigh and said, "See what I mean? In this day and age, who would do something like this for you? Hold on to that boy tightly. And don't let Meiling or anyone else find out about this....especially that man, Zhan. Zong's children have no real sense of decency; they're all envious and spiteful. Let me keep this safe for you. If those Zong kids find out, they'll be envious just out of pure spite. And that Zhan, you'll see, will walk in here soon pretending to greet me when all he does is cause me trouble. Now hurry, take this inside before..."

Before she could finish her sentence, the door swung open.

Zong entered, with Zhan following closely behind. Nainai quickly hid the earrings under the carpet.

Softly, Yibo greeted, "Good morning, Bobo."

Zong nodded. "Good morning, Yibo. I heard you weren't feeling well. How are you now?"

Zhan immediately turned to look at Yibo with concern. "I'm feeling better, Bobo," Yibo answered.

"That's good. May you recover fully soon," Zong said.

"Amen," Zhan murmured.

Turning to Nainai, Zong said, "AYi, I'm here to greet you."

"Go on, then. Be quick about it," she replied.

Yibo got up and walked to the door, stepping outside. Zhan pulled out his phone, pressed it to his ear, then suddenly stood up and left, muttering, "Hello?"

Yibo returned to his section of the house and went straight to his room, assuming that Quentin had already left since he didn't see his car in the parking space. As he gathered his things, the sound of the door opening made him freeze. He quickly turned toward the door, then hesitantly walked over and twisted the handle.

Standing outside, right near his door, was Zhan.

Yibo's eyes widened in shock, and he instinctively tried to run, but Zhan grabbed him firmly and pulled him back. His face was expressionless as he said, "Am I your nightmare that you're running from me?"

Yibo's breath hitched, and he started panicking. Tears welled in his eyes as he pleaded, "I don't like this...let go of me, Gege."

Zhan studied him for a moment before asking, "Why do you always run when you see me?"

Yibo's heart pounded in his chest. "It's nothing. Just let me go, please," he whispered.

Zhan held his gaze for a moment before sighing. "What's wrong with you?"

With difficulty, Yibo muttered, "I'm fine now."

Zhan finally released him, turned, and walked away. Yibo collapsed onto the floor, his heart still racing.

That evening, Yibo was bending by Nainai's water tap, washing his hands. As if sensing something, he suddenly looked up and saw Sen Wen approaching. Startled, he quickly pulled his cap down over his hair and widened his eyes in surprise.

Sen Wen smiled. As he reached the door, he knocked gently and said in a soft voice, "Grandma."

Nainai came out of her room, answering as she walked toward the door. "Oh, welcome, Sen Wen! I didn't realize it was you."

He smiled and took a seat. "How are you, Grandma?"

"I'm well, thank you. How is work?"

"Everything is going well, thank you," he replied.

She nodded. "The heat has been terrible lately, though nowadays there's air conditioning everywhere."

Sen Wen chuckled. "That's true, Grandma."

"Well, good to have you here. Let me get you something to drink."

Without waiting for a response, she went to the fridge, grabbed a bottle of water and a bottle of juice, and placed them in front of him. "I made food earlier and left some for you, but that man Zhan came in while I was napping and ate it all."

Sen Wen smiled and said, "Sometimes you have to indulge me, Nainai..."

Nainai chuckled. "Of course, I will. Now, about the conversation we had the other day?"

Sen Wen replied, "Nainai, my dad is out of the country at the moment. I'm waiting for him to return, and then we can proceed with the discussion."

Nainai nodded in approval. "That's good. May he return safely. I heard that Mr. Yo Lee is hardly ever around-never fully here or there. Well, that's how it is with prominent men..."

Sen Wen just smiled. They continued talking for over thirty minutes, with Nainai sharing stories-some relevant, some not. Finally, he placed some money in her hands and bid her farewell. Nainai's eyes widened. "You never get tired of this, do you, Sen Wen? I haven't even finished spending the last amount you gave me; I kept it aside for the children in this house. Well, thank you. May fortune continue to bless you."

Still smiling, Sen Wen replied, "Amen, Nainai. I appreciate you too."

Nainai then asked, "Make sure to send my regards to your mother, alright? One day, we'll all meet if fate allows. What's her name again?"

Lowering his head slightly, he answered, "Zi Ling."

Nainai's expression softened. "Oh, what a coincidence! That was my best friend's name before she became... well, something else. I wonder where she is now..."

Sen Wen only chuckled.

Nainai sighed. "May we all have a good ending. But Zi... she didn't make the best choices. She always had a taste for wealth and luxury..."

Still smiling, Sen Wen stepped toward the door. "I'll drop by again soon, Nainai."

She quickly stood up. "Alright, Sen Wen, greet your family for me. May fortune bless you."

He responded with "thank you" before leaving.

As Sen Wen walked through the compound, he glanced around, searching for Yibo, but there was no sign of him. His phone was still switched off.

A car drove into the compound, and the driver parked. The back doors opened, and Yichen stepped out, accompanied by Fang her friend. They began unloading large shopping bags from the trunk.

Sen Wen greeted them politely. Yichen looked at him briefly, acknowledged his greeting, and continued unloading. He walked past them, but as they headed toward the gate, Fang asked, "Who was that?"

Yichen shrugged. "Probably here to see Seth."

Fang frowned. "Seth is in town? I thought he wasn't around. I never see him when I visit."

Yichen smirked. "He's around. You know he's not the type to socialize much. Even when he's home, he's either in his room or with his grandmother."

Fang nodded. "That explains it. But I see Zhan more often."

Yichen sighed. "Oh, don't remind me. It's barely been four days since the last family drama. Can you believe Seth had to choose someone to marry, and of all people, he picked Yuting's son?"

Fang's eyes widened. "Yuting's son? And what happened?"

Yichen gave a small, knowing smile. "Oh, it's not even a discussion anymore. His grandmother made it clear that, even after her passing, she wouldn't approve of that marriage. And, as fate would have it, I received news that I shouldn't worry-he's not his husband. In fact, Che'er is his wife, and their wedding will be happening soon. Maybe we'll even have it alongside Zhan's, since we're almost done preparing the wedding gifts for him."

Fang raised a brow. "You're really taking this personally, aren't you?"

Yichen sighed. "You still don't fully understand me, Fang. I will never want the best for Yuting and her family. Seth marrying into her family would have been an excellent match-wealthy, smart, and composed. I would never let this opportunity slip away. But I knew Yuting would be bitter about it. She barely participated in Yu's wedding, only showing up at the last moment just to glare at everyone in resentment. Do you think I'd let her have any happiness after that? Absolutely not. The moment I heard Yibo wasn't marrying Seth, I felt relieved. And then his grandmother confirmed it, saying she wouldn't allow it. That settled it for me."

Fang smirked. "Well, that's good news, then."

She continued sorting through a pile of designer innerwear they had bought while shopping. Eight large suitcases were now stacked in Yichen's room.

Yichen sighed. "Zhan needs to send more money. What's left won't be enough. I want to include diamond pieces in the gifts-even if it's just earrings, a necklace, and a ring. Bracelets too, if possible."

Fang nodded in agreement. "That's true. It will make the gifts more valuable."

"Exactly," Yichen said. "Once everything is ready, he and his father will review the gifts together. If everything goes according to plan, by the end of this month, everything will be finalized. Then they'll visit the bride's family with the wedding gifts."

:-*:-*:-*:-*:-*:-

Yibo stood in the kitchen, washing the plates in the sink, when Yuting walked in and said, "Do you have any credit on your phone? I need to call Quentin-I have multiple missed calls from him. Mine is out of balance."

Yibo turned to look at her, momentarily unsure of what to say. After a pause, he replied, "Mu Qin, my phone hasn't been with me for three days now."

Yuting frowned in surprise. "It's not with you? Then where is it?"

"Gege took it," Yibo answered. "I never asked him for it back."

Yuting's expression darkened. "So you refuse to listen to me in this house, Yibo? Didn't I tell you to stay away from Zhan?"

"I swear, Yuting, I don't talk to him anymore. Ask Nainai if you don't believe me. If he goes to Nainai's part of the house, I stay in her room or leave. I don't even sit where he is. And when he took my phone, I didn't ask for it back-I don't even want it anymore, even if he returns it."

"Good," Yuting said. "I'll find out if he's the one who bought you the phone."

"He only took it because Sen Wen was calling me," Yibo mumbled.

Yuting went silent, studying him for a moment before saying, "And what business of his is it, if Sen Wen calls you?"

Yibo simply raised his hands in a helpless gesture. Yuting turned and walked out of the kitchen.

That afternoon, Zihan walked into the sitting room where Yibo was eating.

"Welcome, Yemei," Yibo greeted.

"Thank you, Yibo. Where's Yuting?"

"In her room," Yibo replied.

Zihan headed straight to Yuting's bedroom, where she was arranging some of her iron clothes in her wardrobe. She put down what she was holding and said, "I was just finishing up before coming to see you, and here you are."

Zihan smiled. "I came to see you too."

They exchanged pleasantries before Zihan asked, "Has Quentin returned?"

"Yes, he came back yesterday," Yuting replied. "How's Meiling? I haven't seen Seth in a while...did he leave somewhere without saying goodbye?"

Zihan chuckled, already knowing Yuting hadn't heard about what happened with Seth and Nainai becouse of Yibo. "He's still here, but he'll be leaving for Shanghai next week for work."

Yuting sat down. "What kind of work?"

Zihan laughed lightly. "Seth transferred some money to me earlier. He wants us to start preparing for his wedding."

Yuting's eyes widened. "Seth?"

"Yes," Zihan confirmed.

"Incredible. And with Che'er?"

"Yes," Zihan said with a smile.

Yuting laughed. "That's funny. Just a few days ago, when I asked him, he swore he wasn't marrying her but someone. When I pressed him, he just said I'd meet her someday."

Zihan smiled. "Well, yesterday, he finally said it-it's Che'er."

"May everything go well, and may it bring blessings," Yuting said warmly.

They chatted a little longer before Zihan bid her farewell. Yuting walked her to the balcony, reminding her to visit again soon.

🔹🔸▫️

From that day on, Yibo started actively avoiding Zhan. He barely even went to Nainai's part of the house unless necessary. Even when he delivered food, he wouldn't sit-he'd drop it off and leave immediately. He wanted nothing to do with Zhan, especially after hearing what Xia and Cui had said about him. The idea that Zhan had feelings for him infuriated him. That story must have come from Xia-how could Zhan possibly like him?

Now, Yibo only took calls from Sen Wen using Yuting's phone. He would rush to check her phone whenever it rang, just to see if it was Sen Wen. Eventually, Yuting stopped complaining about it altogether.

That night, Yibo was lying on the couch in the sitting room, watching TV with Yuting, when the doorbell rang. He got up and opened the door-only to find himself face-to-face with Zhan.

His heart clenched. Without a word, he quickly stepped aside to let him in.

Zhan walked into the sitting room, barely glancing at Yuting before lowering his gaze and placing a bag on the table. "Good evening," he said.

"Good evening. How's work?" Yuting asked.

"All good, thanks. Papa asked me to bring this over," Zhan said.

"Alright, thank you," Yuting replied.

"You're welcome. Good night," Zhan said before turning around and walking out, closing the door behind him.

Yuting open the bag to see a package of large well-seasoned roasted chicken, but despite Yibo's usual love for chicken, he refused to eat, claiming he was full. This surprised Yuting, but she simply took a portion for herself and placed the rest in the fridge.

A few days before school resumed, on a Thursday evening, Sen Wen called Yibo using Yuting's phone. Since the phone was in Yibo's room, he answered. After exchanging greetings, Sen Wen said, "I'm outside."

Yibo's eyes widened slightly, and he responded hesitantly, "Oh... okay." With that, the call ended.

Nervous, he left his room and went to Yuting's room, lingering by the door. Watching her carefully, he said in a low voice, "Mu Qin, someone is calling me outside."

Yuting glanced at him. "Who's calling you?"

Yibo lowered his gaze, struggling for words. The last time he had mentioned Sen Wen's name in front of her, she had scolded him, saying he had no shame calling that name so openly. Now, he had no idea how to bring it up again.

After a brief silence, Yuting sighed. "Just don't stay out too long."

Yibo gave a small smile. "Okay, Mu Qin."

With that, he stepped out, walking cautiously toward the gate.

As soon as Sen Wen spotted him, he opened his car door and got out, crossing his arms as he studied Yibo through the lenses of his glasses. Yibo kept his gaze down, approaching the car.

In a soft voice, Sen Wen asked, "How have you been?"

"I'm fine," Yibo replied.

Sen Wen nodded. "Are you sure? You look pale."

Yibo forced a small smile. "I'm fine."

"Alright... what about your grandmother? Would you like to come with me to visit her?"

Yibo's eyes widened. "No, she's sleeping."

Sen Wen chuckled. "Really?"

Yibo smiled but said nothing.

"And your mom?"

"She's doing well."

Sen Wen leaned slightly closer. "I want to take you shopping. If you prefer, you can bring your cousins along."

Yibo's eyes widened again. "No way, they won't let me go."

"Alright then."

A quiet moment passed between them. Yibo lifted his head slightly, and their eyes met. Flustered, he quickly looked away.

Sen Wen smiled. "You're starting your third term on Monday, right? I'm still keeping track."

Yibo chuckled softly but remained silent.

"Just a few months left," Sen Wen continued. "One last term, and you'll be done."

Yibo didn't respond, his gaze drifting toward Zhan's car, which was parked outside instead of inside the gate. Even the security guard had been about to open the gate before realizing Zhan wasn't driving in.

Zhan stepped out of his car, looking like he had just come from the hospital. Yibo immediately lowered his head. As Zhan made his way toward the house, he and Sen Wen locked eyes. Zhan hesitated at the gate, then changed course and approached them instead.

Sen Wen smiled, extending a hand.

Zhan shook it. "How's work?"

"All good. Welcome back," Sen Wen replied.

Zhan gave a slight smile and turned to enter the house.

Sen Wen, still watching him, turned to Yibo with a curious expression. "Why didn't you greet him?"

Yibo muttered, "We're not on good terms right now."

Sen Wen raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

"No reason."

Sen Wen studied him for a moment before sighing. "Alright. I just stopped by to see your pretty face on my way from the hospital."

Yibo smiled shyly and turned his face away.

Sen Wen pulled out a midium package and held it out. "Here, take this."

Yibo glanced at it, confused. "What?"

Sen Wen looked at him fondly. "Just take it, please."

Yibo frowned. "No, thank you. I don't want it."

"Please, Yibo."

"No. My mom will scold me."

Sen Wen sighed, watching him.

"I mean it," Yibo insisted. "She really will."

Sen Wen nodded. "Alright, I understand."

He softened his voice. "I'm sorry."

Sen Wen shook his head. "It's fine."

Sen Wen smiled. "Go inside before your mom gets upset."

"Alright. Thank you."

Sen Wen smiled. "No need for thanks. Actually, let me come inside and say hello to your grandmother."

Yibo's eyes widened. "She's still sleeping."

Sen Wen chuckled. "That's fine. I'll wake her up."

With that, he made his way toward the house, leaving Yibo watching him with exasperation.

Nainai was at the sink when he found her. She stood up, beaming with a smile. "Oh, Sen Wen, you came to check on me?"

He smiled. "Yes, Nainai."

"Alright, come inside and sit down. Let me finish up here, and I'll join you."

"Okay, Nainai," he replied, stepping into the sitting room and taking a seat.

Once she was done, she came inside and asked, "So, how is everyone at home?"

"They're all doing well, Nainai. I was in a hurry, but I wanted to stop by to greet you. Also, I brought this for Yibo." He set down the bag he was holding.

Nainai nodded. "Oh, alright. Let me take it inside. May you be blessed." She picked up the bag and walked away. A moment later, she returned with a bowl of fruit, then went to the kitchen, grabbed a bag, and poured the fruit inside.

"I bought these just for myself yesterday. I haven't even shared them with the others in the house," she said with a chuckle.

Sen Wen smiled. "Thank you, Nainai."

🔹🔸▫️

Yibo put down the basket and turned to Nainai. "Good evening."

She stood up and said, "Wait here while I get something for you. I'll ask Quentin when he gets back if it was Yuting who stopped you from visiting me. Otherwise, I don't understand why you always drop food off and run like someone is chasing you.

"But let me tell you now, Yuting has no power to keep you away from me. She didn't give birth to your father. And if she's been poisoning your ears against me, I'll find out from Quentin soon enough."

Yibo watched her with a blank expression, lips pressed together. She wasn't gone for long before she returned, holding the bag Sen Wen had given her earlier.

"That kind young man was here earlier. He asked me to give this to you. I don't know what's inside, but who knows? Maybe it's gold! I didn't open it, though. I don't betray trust."

Yibo's eyes widened as he stared at the bag. After a pause, he asked, "Why did you take it, Nainai?"

She frowned. "And why wouldn't I? Where have you ever seen someone refuse a gift? If you don't want it, then leave it with me. I'm more than happy to accept it."

Yibo gave her a look before opening the bag. His eyes lingered on the expensive phone box inside.

Nainai let out an exclamation. "Who else but Sen Wen would buy this for you? Who do you have in your life besides him? Not even Quentin would get you such a high-end phone, let alone Zong."

Yibo remained silent, his heart pounding.

Just then, the sitting room door opened, and Zhan walked in, holding a bag of fruit. Nainai beamed. "Zhan, look at the phone Sen Wen bought for Yibo! I bet it cost at least three million."

Zhan set the fruit down and glanced at the phone box. Yibo quickly shoved it back into the bag, refusing to meet his gaze, then handed it back to Nainai.

"Keep it for me," he muttered.

She took the bag eagerly. "Alright, I'll stop talking now." She stood up and walked off to her room.

Yibo stood abruptly and left the sitting room in a hurry.

The next day, while Nainai was in her room, she heard the door to her sitting room open. She stepped out, asking, "Who's there?"

Her eyes widened as she saw people carrying in several suitcases.

"What is all this?" she asked, stunned.
